Chapter 80. The Outline of the World

However, when Mu Yang returned to the house provided in the world of the flesh-eaters that evening and turned on the news, he realized he had underestimated both the madness of the Paradise Traversers and the power of the Antique Shop. The news was broadcasting a story about several CCG investigators who had, without authorization, attempted to capture the Gourmet near a coffee shop. Just as they were about to succeed, a group of masked flesh-eaters suddenly appeared, swiftly killing the investigators. The investigators had no chance to resist.

There was no need to guess: these investigators were Paradise Traversers. Otherwise, how could a few investigators nearly succeed in taking down the Gourmet? That was impossible. Rize Kamishiro was an S-rated Gourmet, a flesh-eater from the Washuu lineage. With all these identities combined, how could Rize Kamishiro be just an ordinary S-rated flesh-eater? More importantly, the protagonist, Ken Kaneki, had his kagune transplanted from Rize’s organs, which was how he became a one-eyed flesh-eater.

Although these Paradise Traversers were killed, the fact that they nearly succeeded in hunting the Gourmet showed their considerable strength. Yet, they were still slain without any chance to fight back, which made Mu Yang reevaluate the strength of the Antique Coffee Shop.

Mu Yang watched the news for a while longer, but nothing noteworthy appeared. He surmised that the earlier news was a warning from the world’s consciousness, signaling that the Paradise Traversers had already begun to act.

“Sadako, I might need your help this time,” Mu Yang said, summoning Sadako.

“What is it?” Sadako emerged from Mu Yang’s spiritual world.

“I want to buy a videotape. On it, there will be footage of you crawling out of a well. Once someone watches the tape, you in the video will draw closer and closer, until finally you step out of the screen and the television, appear before the viewer, and kill them. The process should take seven days,” Mu Yang explained.

“All right, but isn’t this a bit troublesome? Wouldn’t it be easier to just kill them all at once?” Sadako replied.

“Trust me, this way you’ll attract far more attention,” Mu Yang said.

“Fine then.”

That night, Sadako transformed into a wisp of smoke and entered the television.

“Since you’re a figure from outside this world, the Paradise Traversers will likely keep an eye on you,” Mu Yang mused.

The next day…

As promised, Mu Yang arrived at the Antique Coffee Shop. However, the moment he walked in, he noticed that Touka and the others were looking at him as if he were some rare delicacy, a peerless feast.

Mu Yang immediately understood the reason: it was probably the effect of his body’s enhancement through immortality. But if they actually took a bite, they’d realize what it was like to eat pufferfish.

“Kaneki, Hide, I’m here. Sorry to have kept you waiting,” Mu Yang said as he took his seat.

“No worries, Kaneki and I haven’t been waiting long at all. You’re right on time. By the way, what would you like to drink? Kaneki’s treating today,” Hide threw an arm around Kaneki’s shoulders and beamed.

“All right, then I’ll have a mocha. If that’s not available, a latte is fine too,” Mu Yang replied.

“It seems our young friend knows a thing or two about coffee. But children shouldn’t drink too much at an early age—it’s not good for their growth. Best to cut back in the future,” the manager said, carrying a cup of mocha over to Mu Yang.

“Pfft, hahaha!” Hide burst out laughing. “Manager, Mu Yang is my classmate—we’re both university students. It’s just that his body stopped growing suddenly when he was a child, so he’s kept this appearance ever since.”
