Chapter 76: So, You Play with Poison Too?
The bullet once again struck Mika. Although it missed vital organs such as the heart, which would have meant instant death, his lung was pierced. This attack not only rendered Mika unable to participate in the competition, but also ensured he would spend the next few weeks recuperating in peace.
Shrek Academy claimed another victory.
"The Sun and Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy, fourth contestant, Meng Hongchen, please step onto the stage."
Meng Hongchen walked slowly onto the arena. Though her beauty did not quite rival that of Jiang Nan Nan, she was still a remarkably lovely young maiden, her age comparable to Jiang Nan Nan's. Her long hair was an uncommon shade of burgundy, deeper than Ma Xiaotao’s, reminiscent of fine wine shimmering with a gentle luster. Yet her eyes were not red, but blue—a notable difference from her elder brother Xiao Hongchen.
"Let the match begin." The referee, Skyfiend Douluo, declared loudly. The Sun and Moon team could no longer afford to lose; another defeat would mean their complete downfall.
Facing Mu Yang’s charge, Meng Hongchen maintained a calm expression and did not, like her teammates, immediately unleash her soul tools for a ranged assault. With a subtle movement of her feet, she took small steps toward Mu Yang instead, welcoming him. At the same time, a dramatic transformation occurred—her burgundy hair turned snow-white, and her ice-blue eyes shifted in an instant to a blood-red hue, so deep it seemed as if blood might drip from them.
Thunder rumbled again overhead. Fine rain began to fall from the sky.
The delicate rain landed on Mu Yang, who felt a slight chill across his body. The toxins within him stirred restlessly.
"Sister, you play with poison too? Then let me join in!" Mu Yang suddenly raised his head and addressed Meng Hongchen.
He pricked his finger, and crimson blood began to flow.
Mu Yang held his hand upright toward Meng Hongchen. The bright blood, simple yet potent, exerted immense pressure upon her.
She turned sideways, attempting to evade the blood, but Mu Yang's blood was highly toxic and under his control.
With a twist of his finger, the blood he had flung instantly changed direction, rushing once more toward Meng Hongchen. At first, she failed to notice it, but the trigger-type soul shield sprang up in the nick of time. Though Mu Yang’s blood quickly corroded a hole through it, this served as a warning, allowing Meng Hongchen to dodge the attack.
This prompted her to don a level-six soul armor, for if Mu Yang managed to catch her unawares, she might be forced out of the competition immediately.
Moreover, Meng Hongchen’s soul skills were heavily suppressed, for Mu Yang’s poison far outmatched hers. After all, his toxins could even withstand the exquisite Youxiang Qiluo Immortal, so why fear poison that couldn't even kill a Soul Douluo?
Meng Hongchen realized this, understanding that soul skills alone could not defeat Mu Yang; she would have to combine soul tools and soul skills to deliver a decisive blow.
"You dodge so quickly, sister. Let's make things a bit more challenging!" Mu Yang said, dripping more blood toward Meng Hongchen.
A soul tool ray shot at Mu Yang, but he sidestepped and avoided the attack.
"Let’s make it even more difficult," Mu Yang added, sending several more drops of blood.
While Meng Hongchen could see Mu Yang’s blood, the audience could not. Their bodies lacked the acute senses of soul masters, so they saw only Meng Hongchen threatened by some invisible force, chased across the stage, leaping and dodging...
