Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Assault (Part One)
The Shadow Bathed in Sunlight gave the vampire a thorough beating. Lacking a sharp weapon and considering the vampire's formidable regenerative abilities, the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight decided to wait a minute and use an item to kill the vampire. If luck favored the vampire, the item obtained after a minute might not be lethal; but if luck was against him, the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight would acquire Justice.
And so, he aimed Justice at the vampire’s head and pulled the trigger.
The skull burst open, scattering red and white matter across the floor.
The moment the duel ended, guards outside finally rushed in. The Shadow Bathed in Sunlight took a mirror from his spatial ring and slipped inside.
Sadako, waiting within the mirror’s space, saw him escape and breathed a sigh of relief. The Shadow Bathed in Sunlight noticed Sadako was still waiting for him inside the mirror’s realm and raised his opinion of her. Although bound by a master-servant contract, staying in the mirror space consumed energy; Sadako had every right to wait outside, yet she remained.
“I got what I needed. Let’s hurry; you must have used up a lot of energy,” he said.
Sadako nodded and followed him out of the mirror space.
Due to the exertion from stealing the bribe, the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight needed to recover. He rested for a day, and when sleep overtook him, Mu Yang appeared.
“I still don’t understand how you protect yourself,” Mu Yang said, “but I can sense that when you control the body, others seem less hostile towards me. Even Sadako, who signed a master-servant contract with you, now has a favorable impression of you. Why is that?”
“You simply need to know this: keep what benefits you, eliminate what harms you. If someone hurts you, you hurt them back, even more cruelly,” the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight replied.
“So, the idea is to inspire fear? To make them too afraid to harm you, right?” Mu Yang asked.
“Exactly. When your strength breaks certain limits, you can ignore most things. You know the ability of immortality—put simply, you can’t die. So as long as you’re not caught, you can do whatever you want,” the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight explained.
“As you wish? No, I have my principles,” Mu Yang said, shaking his head.
“Then stick to your principles. After all, though we share the same body, we have different minds. No one is the same,” the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight responded.
Mu Yang wanted to continue speaking, but a sudden crash echoed—the sound of a door being forced open. The Shadow Bathed in Sunlight had to return to his body, and Mu Yang reverted to a silent observer, unable to speak, only able to watch.
Just as the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight rose, a blade nearly sliced his neck, but thanks to his constitution and natural reflexes, he dodged instinctively.
Yet the attacker was unsatisfied, pressing forward with the knife. The Shadow Bathed in Sunlight, unconcerned with his own body, pulled out Justice and Bribe from the spatial ring and sprayed the attacker point-blank.
Bang!
The immense recoil sent the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight flying. At the moment of impact, a golden membrane shielded the assailant from most of the attack.
Bang! Another shot rang out—this time from Bribe.
Bang! Then Justice.
As he was hurled backwards, the Shadow Bathed in Sunlight’s hands squeezed the triggers, one after another…
