Chapter Sixty: Numbness
After stepping off the stage, Wang Yan asked Mu Yang, “Mu Yang, what was that soul skill just now? Why couldn’t the seven members from Dou Ling Academy move? Their eyes were vacant, as if they’d lost all consciousness. And what is your gray soul ring?”
“Teacher, what you saw was my second soul skill. Its effect is to block the opponent’s sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch, leaving them unable to perceive anything at all.
As for the gray soul ring, it’s actually a soul ring produced by my martial spirit under special circumstances. It doesn’t come from a soul beast that died,” Mu Yang explained one by one.
Wang Yan drew in a sharp breath. Even in battle, he relied heavily on his senses. If they were blocked, one would be no different from a wooden stake.
As for martial spirits that generate their own soul rings, there have indeed been a few such cases in history. Each one was a monstrous genius among monsters. But because the martial spirit produces soul rings on its own, the method is extremely difficult, so their cultivation was almost always sealed. If they used soul rings from soul beasts instead, it was possible, but their strength would be greatly diminished, and the soul skills gained would rarely match.
“Understood. Let’s head back to the hotel and plan our tactics,” Wang Yan said to the group.
“Alright,” everyone responded.
“Tactics aren’t really my strong suit. Just tell me what I need to do,” Mu Yang said.
Wang Yan glanced at Mu Yang, whose nine-year-old appearance was rather confusing.
…
Back at the hotel, Mu Yang entered his room and began to cultivate.
The next day, Shrek Academy faced Yunluo Academy in a one-on-one battle.
Mu Yang took the stage. After much discussion among the group, they realized Mu Yang was actually the best suited to face the opponent. Once his second soul skill, Senselessness, was unleashed, the opponent would become no different from a puppet—then he could simply carry them off the field.
Yunluo Academy’s first contestant was not tall, but had broad shoulders and was a bit overweight. Facing the slender Mu Yang, he looked visibly nervous, sweat already beading on his forehead.
With the referee’s signal to start, Mu Yang immediately revealed two gray soul rings. With a flash of his second soul skill, the Yunluo contestant’s eyes went vacant, his hands flailing as though gripped by fear.
Mu Yang was not a ruthless person. He grabbed the opponent’s leg, lifted him, walked to the edge of the arena, and gently set him down, removing the soul skill.
“All right, referee, I’ve won. Please announce the result,” Mu Yang said, turning to the referee.
Many in the audience had no idea what had just happened.
Even Huo Yuhao and the others who knew about Mu Yang’s soul skill were shocked by its effectiveness.
The Yunluo captain slapped his teammate on the head and said, “Losing to Shrek isn’t shameful, but at least try to fight! Standing there and letting yourself be carried off—what’s that supposed to mean?”
“Captain, it’s not like that! I wanted to use my soul skill, but suddenly I couldn’t feel anything. Everything went pitch black—I couldn’t sense a thing,” the teammate explained hurriedly.
“Well, it’s not your fault. Shangyue, you’re up next,” the captain said.
“Yes, sir.” A female team member from Yunluo Academy leapt onto the stage.
But Mu Yang used the same method: a flash from his second soul ring, and Shangyue became vacant-eyed, carried off the arena once again.
…
That’s enough. I don’t feel like writing anymore. No one’s voting for recommendation, and my heart aches.
