Chapter Forty-Seven: Assassin?
Having almost finished adjusting my mindset, I can finally return to regular updates. I’ll tally up the chapters owed to readers and pay them back in due course.
Let’s get to the heart of the story.
Shadow Bathed in Sunlight relentlessly assaulted the three tanks. Although the tanks managed to block a handful of attacks, many more struck them directly. The saying, “The best defense is a good offense,” rings true, but only if you still possess consciousness—without it, there’s no offense to be made.
If Shadow Bathed in Sunlight lacked a high pain threshold or a tenacious vitality, he could never have attacked so recklessly, using such a crude, unrefined approach. Without those qualities, he would have perished in the very first round, swept away by the Storm of Sorcerers.
He slid past the tanks in a swift dash. The tanks assumed he was going after the healer and quickly spun around, but his true target was the tank who had just turned.
As Shadow Bathed in Sunlight expected, at the exact moment the tank turned, Bribe unleashed its full firepower, concentrating on the tank’s face.
Bang!
The tank exploded like a watermelon, red and white fragments spraying everywhere.
Immediately, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight withdrew Bribe and drew Justice. Within a cubic meter, every creature received equal damage. While this might not be lethal to tanks, this time his target was the Mage.
Mages, when left unprotected, are exceedingly vulnerable—survival rates lower even than healers. Justice struck the Mage, leaving him riddled with craters; perhaps he wouldn’t die outright, but he was certainly on the brink.
Just as Shadow Bathed in Sunlight prepared to fire again, a sharp click echoed. For reasons unknown, Justice seemed to be out of ammo.
“Damn it!” he cursed inwardly.
He quickly stowed Justice and drew Bribe once more.
Click, click, click!
Three consecutive clicks—his expression darkened completely. For some inexplicable reason, both Justice and Bribe were now out of bullets.
“Shadowblade.”
Suddenly, an assassin wielding twin daggers appeared behind him, stabbing directly into his heart.
Shadow Bathed in Sunlight’s consciousness was blocked, but just as suddenly, it returned. He spun around, ready to bite the assassin, but the foe retreated swiftly.
“This world boss has no instant death effect? Even stabbed in the heart, he doesn’t die.” The assassin was slightly shocked; after all, the world is vast, and all manner of creatures exist.
Having seen many bosses, he knew they possessed every kind of ability.
“Solitude, be careful. As long as this guy isn’t dead, he can recover—and at an astonishing rate. No one knows what his weakness is,” a surviving tank warned.
“Isn’t this the legendary Shield of No Fear, Vessi? Are you afraid of this foe?” asked the tank known as Solitude.
“It’s not fear,” Vessi replied in his own defense. “If you kill him, this world boss might be truly immortal.”
“Immortal? That’s a troublesome trait. We can only hope there’s an item to restrain him. For now, we’ll have to see if the boss’s abilities are limited in use.”
“Solitude, let’s hope the plot proceeds as expected,” Vessi said.
While Vessi and Solitude argued, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight continued his relentless assault, undeterred by pain.
Well, that’s a thousand words. Thank you, dear readers.
