Chapter Thirty-Four: Vengeance
Shadow Muyang took control of the body in place of Muyang. The very first thing he did was to draw the Tang Dao—Heart of Man. Muyang himself had never used it this way; it was through the blade, bound to his soul, that Shadow Muyang was summoned forth. Though Shadow Muyang and Muyang appeared as two distinct personalities, they were but two facets of the same soul: Muyang, the bright side, and Shadow Muyang, the dark.
Gripping the Tang Dao—Heart of Man—with one hand, Shadow Muyang struck against the wall. Light streamed in from outside.
That single slash triggered every alarm in the laboratory; squad after squad of zombies surged forward, intent on seizing Shadow Muyang, or at the very least, preventing his escape.
A sly smile curled Shadow Muyang’s lips. “Just as I saw that desolate fellow stewing in rage, I’ll help him vent a bit.”
He turned the Tang Dao horizontally, channeling the toxins within his body onto the blade, then cleaved a zombie in half at the waist. Ordinarily, zombies would not die from being severed in this manner, but coupled with the deadly toxins coursing through Shadow Muyang’s body, death was inevitable. Though Muyang's ability to wield poison had been sealed, the poisonous nature of his body remained unchanged.
A battle? No—this was a one-sided massacre.
A thunderous gunshot sounded; Shadow Muyang’s head was blown apart. Yet the slaughter did not cease; only his method changed.
The first gray soul ring flashed. All zombies nearby were marked by Shadow Muyang. “How about you taste the consequences of your own actions?” he said.
With the Tang Dao—Heart of Man, he severed his own left hand. Instantly, the left hands of all surrounding zombies dropped to the ground.
But unlike the zombies, Shadow Muyang’s left hand swiftly regenerated. Without pause, he sliced off his right hand.
The zombies lost their right hands as well.
“Have you ever heard of human stumps? Care to try?” Shadow Muyang continued, and then he struck off both his legs.
The zombies, too, lost their legs, collapsing to the floor.
“This torment should suffice. Now, it’s time to seek out those dear Skeleton Doctors,” Shadow Muyang said with satisfaction, gazing at the heap of zombies.
He did not know the location of the Skeleton Doctors’ laboratory, but Muyang, ever present, offered guidance.
“Looks like you’ve picked up some defensive skills. If it were you before, you’d have simply given up,” Shadow Muyang remarked, a hint of surprise in his voice.
“After ten years of watching you operate my body, I owe them some payback. You think it’s justified? I certainly do,” Muyang replied.
“Haha, just what I wanted! I’ll follow your lead—let’s slaughter them all,” Shadow Muyang said, laughing.
Five minutes later…
Shadow Muyang kicked open the laboratory door. “I’m back—didn’t you all miss me?” he called.
As he spoke, the second gray soul skill flared, instantly shutting down the Skeletons’ six senses.
That soul skill had originated from utter darkness, from a place devoid of all but blackness, as if the six senses had vanished completely.
Bereft of their senses, the Skeletons collapsed one by one.
“Your skeletal forms make tormenting you a bit troublesome, but I’ll put you away for now. Later, I’ll settle each score—one by one.” With a smile, Shadow Muyang swept the fallen Skeletons into his spatial ring…
