"Upon completion of this mission, the currency system will be unlocked."
Shadow Bathed in Sunlight blinked in surprise and murmured, "I was only suspicious, but to think there really is a mission—and that there are other travelers. It seems this world is far larger than I imagined."
Then, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight glanced at Irene and, with a smile, said, "Thanks for your help. You owe your life to it." With those words, he dashed toward the nearest traveler.
This traveler was the owner of a general store, human by race, but using an item to conceal his human features. Shadow Bathed in Sunlight didn’t bother to find out what the traveler was doing—he simply slashed down with his blade.
The general store traveler, reacting instantly, pulled out a shield in an attempt to defend himself. Yet whether it was because the Tang Blade (Heart of Man) was too sharp or the shield’s grade was too low, the shield was cleaved into two perfect semicircles by the single stroke.
Fortunately, the traveler’s reflexes saved him; as the shield broke, he dodged in the nick of time, sparing his life but leaving a deep, bloody gash across his chest.
Without pause, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight struck again, this time finishing the traveler. As he was about to search the body for loot, the corpse dissolved into motes of starlight.
[System, what’s happening here?] Shadow Bathed in Sunlight inquired.
"Host, this is the Paradise’s recycling process. When a traveler dies, the Paradise retrieves their body."
"Looks like looting the corpses is out—half the fun is gone," Shadow Bathed in Sunlight muttered, pursing his lips.
Sadako, who had been following him, stared in confusion as she watched Shadow Bathed in Sunlight kill the store owner, having no idea why he had done so.
Casting a glance at a mirror inside the general store, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight dove straight in. As soon as he entered, Sadako followed suit, slipping into the mirror as well.
This was Shadow Bathed in Sunlight’s first venture into the mirror space. Upon entering, the map displaying the Paradise travelers’ locations also shifted in appearance, though its function remained unchanged—it still pointed directly to their positions.
Within the mirror space, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight quickly tracked down another traveler, who stood with his back to the mirror. Without hesitation, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight burst out from the glass and slew the Paradise traveler.
Using this method, Shadow Bathed in Sunlight cleaned up several more Paradise travelers. By the time he reached the twenty-seventh, it was clear the travelers had realized someone was hunting them and had become much more cautious.
Of course, what truly troubled Shadow Bathed in Sunlight wasn’t their vigilance, but rather that some travelers had no mirrors nearby, or were clustered together for safety—situations that prevented him from launching surprise attacks from the mirrors for swift kills.
Despite their increased caution, the speed of Shadow Bathed in Sunlight’s cleanup did not diminish. Even Sadako was left dumbfounded, for now Shadow Bathed in Sunlight seemed more like a mirror assassin than she did.
He traveled through the mirror space, striking suddenly and lethally, again and again—until, at last, someone blocked his attack…
