Chapter Ninety-Seven: Inheritance
Izumi Takatsuki heard Muyang’s words and still smiled gently, saying, “Then grow tall properly, you little brat.” With that, he ruffled Muyang’s hair vigorously before walking off into the distance.
Muyang tidied his disheveled hair while watching Izumi’s retreating figure, then muttered in confusion, “I really don’t understand a woman’s mind. Just now, even though her life was literally in my hands and we reached an agreement, why does she still insist on saving face like that? What if my temper was bad—wouldn’t she have died then? It’s beyond me.” After speaking, Muyang expressionlessly turned and walked back to the Shepherds’ base.
“Leader, have you ever fought the One-Eyed King?” someone asked.
“No, I haven’t. She’s a bit more cunning than I am,” Muyang replied coldly.
Hearing this, the group felt a tinge of disappointment, but no one lost hope. After all, Muyang was capable enough to stand against the One-Eyed King and could sweep through most of the ghouls. The leader only said he hadn’t fought her before, not that he couldn’t. This gave them some leverage to contend against Bronze Tree.
A few days later, just as anticipated, news spread that the Shepherds’ status among the ghouls had risen significantly. Following the announcement, a flood of ghouls sought to join the Shepherds. Muyang entrusted the Puppeteer and the Lizard to handle these affairs.
Meanwhile, Muyang was leisurely sipping coffee in an antique café, while Dong Xiang watched him with a scowl.
“How can someone as small as you fight the King of Ghouls? Is the rumor even true?” Dong Xiang questioned skeptically.
“Miss Dong Xiang, whether the rumor is true or not, calling me small really annoys me. If this weren’t a public place, I’d seriously consider giving you a beating just to prove my strength,” Muyang retorted, clearly displeased.
“Muyang, Dong Xiang seems to enjoy arguing with you. You’ve come here three days in a row and quarreled with her every time. Do you like her?” Gu Jian Yuanyuan teased with a smile.
“Gu Jian Yuanyuan, how about coming over tonight for a fight? If you win, I’ll cook you a meal,” Muyang glanced at her and proposed. (What to call Gu Jian Yuanyuan, the author hasn’t decided; readers can think about it.)
“Forget it. You were only slightly outmatched against the One-Eyed King, not completely defeated and forced to flee. How could I possibly fight you with my level? Even if your cooking is delicious, I wouldn’t deserve to enjoy it,” Gu Jian Yuanyuan laughed awkwardly.
“Fine then, I’m off. How’s Kaneki doing here?” Muyang asked as he turned to leave.
“He’s doing well here. Hurry up and go,” Dong Xiang waved him off impatiently.
“Alright, I’m leaving.” Muyang quickened his pace, sensing that Bronze Tree’s men had come to capture Kaneki. Although Kaneki’s ideals were righteous, he still refused to eat humans. Muyang couldn’t force him; he had to follow the story and let Kaneki be taken by Gecko and the others.
When Kaneki could fully confront SS-class ghouls, Muyang planned to hand the Shepherds over to him. That way, even if Kaneki faced an ambush from the Eden interlopers, the Shepherds could provide crucial support. This would also save Kaneki the trouble of building the Black Goat organization.
Suddenly, Muyang fixed his gaze in one direction and sprinted forward, having sensed the presence of Eden interlopers...
