Chapter 39: Xiao Yu Arrives
At that moment, a faint voice echoed through the great hall. The tightly closed doors slowly swung open, and Xiao Yu, Tai Sui, and Yao Bugui entered together.
When Ye Xuan saw that it was Xiao Yu who had arrived, a trace of disdain flickered across his face. With a mocking tone, he said, “You’ll take responsibility? Do you really think a useless son-in-law of the Ye family like you has what it takes?”
“Of course. I was the one who secured this project. Does that qualify me?” Xiao Yu replied calmly as he strode into the hall, found a chair, and sat down.
Yao Bugui made himself comfortable as though he were returning to his own home, sitting straight at Xiao Yu’s side and watching the Ye family members with great interest.
A mighty war king reduced to a live-in son-in-law, and not only did these people fail to show gratitude, they even continued to target and ridicule Xiao Yu at every turn. To Yao Bugui, these Ye family members were truly brainless.
Ye Xuan’s face darkened at Xiao Yu’s composed words. Ye Qinghai had previously warned them not to provoke Xiao Yu, but no one took it seriously. In their eyes, he was just a useless appendage to the family—provoking him made little difference.
“Yes, yes! My son-in-law was the one who secured this project. Even if Sihan is unconscious, Xiao Yu can still take responsibility!”
Xiao Yu’s arrival brought instant reassurance to Ye Kai. He knew that Xiao Yu was far from the simpleton he appeared to be. If nothing else, just the fact that no one in the Ye family could rival his status at the Cloudtop Villa spoke volumes.
“My dear brother, do you really expect this good-for-nothing to help you?” Ye Xuan and the others burst into laughter. Seeing Ye Kai place his hopes in Xiao Yu, they knew their scheme was about to succeed.
“I heard you’re planning a rebellion?”
As the laughter rang out, Xiao Yu’s indifferent voice sounded again, now tinged with a chilling coldness.
“That’s right! Xiao Yu, while Sihan is incapacitated, they’re trying to wrest control of the Ye family from her. Their wolfish ambition knows no bounds!” Ye Kai shouted angrily.
“Hmph, so what? Ye Sihan is just a woman—what right does she have to be head of the Ye family? And you, Xiao Yu, you ungrateful wretch, eating, living, and using the Ye family’s resources, yet not only do you show no gratitude, you even meddle in our family council. If anyone’s rebelling, it’s you!”
Ye Xuan stepped forward, towering over Xiao Yu, looking down on him. As he finished, the bodyguards stationed in the hall moved forward, subtly surrounding Xiao Yu and his companions.
“One more step and you die.”
A terrifying aura of bloodlust filled the hall. Tai Sui, who had been standing silently behind Xiao Yu, swept his cold gaze over the advancing bodyguards, his expression icy.
At Tai Sui’s words, dripping with murderous intent, the bodyguards involuntarily stopped, staring at Tai Sui with fear. They had seen his ferocity before—a man who could fight Jiang Qin to a standstill was not someone they could handle.
Ye Xuan felt Tai Sui’s icy stare and shuddered in fear. Clearly, Tai Sui had left a deep scar on the hearts of the Ye family.
“Hmph! Let’s leave that matter for now. I have another question—was it on your orders that my son, Ye Xin, was beaten?” Ye Xuan tried to change the subject, snorting coldly.
“I beat him. Do you have a problem with that, or do you want to avenge your son?” Tai Sui grinned, then stepped forward, coming to stand right in front of Ye Xuan.
The pressure radiating from Tai Sui made Ye Xuan instinctively retreat, pointing at Tai Sui, trembling so violently he couldn’t utter a word.
“You—you! Xiao Yu, is this your friend? To injure my son so badly, and Xin’er is your cousin! Get out! Get out! The Ye family will not tolerate someone like you!”
Ye Xuan, beside himself with rage, pointed at Xiao Yu and shouted.
His words completely infuriated Tai Sui. In his eyes, Xiao Yu was inviolable, yet Ye Xuan insisted on repeatedly testing his limits, which now sparked real murderous intent in Tai Sui.
“Tai Sui, stand down. These people aren’t worth your effort.” Sensing the killing aura emanating from Tai Sui, Xiao Yu calmly intervened.
Tai Sui paused, glared fiercely at Ye Xuan, and returned to Xiao Yu’s side. Yao Bugui, watching from the sidelines, couldn’t believe his eyes. In his memory, Xiao Yu was never so mild-mannered. On the battlefield, he was a completely different person.
As he marveled at Xiao Yu’s transformation, Yao Bugui also looked with pity upon the Ye family members. How pitiful they were, to mock and insult a man who, as a war king, had deigned to become their son-in-law. If they ever learned Xiao Yu’s true identity, how would they react?
“Isn’t it the Ye family inheritance you want?” Xiao Yu slowly stood, looking at Ye Xuan with an icy gaze.
“So what if I do? That’s none of your business, you worthless coward!” Ye Xuan steadied himself and retorted.
“If you want it, you can have it. On Sihan’s behalf, I declare you the new head of the Ye family, effective immediately.” Xiao Yu spoke flatly.
Ye Xuan was stunned—he never imagined Xiao Yu would say such a thing. Meanwhile, Ye Kai and Liu Xiangqin grew frantic.
“Xiao Yu, how could you say that!” Ye Kai demanded.
“Dad, don’t worry. If Uncle wants it, let him have it. All this squabbling is just about the Huayi Group project anyway.” Xiao Yu had already seen through to the heart of the matter.
“If you know that, then you should be even less willing to let Ye Xuan take over. Otherwise, what benefit will the three branches have left?” Ye Kai pleaded anxiously.
“Don’t worry, Dad. I promise Uncle will regret his words soon enough.”
With that, Xiao Yu pulled out his phone and made a call.
“Hello, Mr. Xiao, is there anything I can do for you?”
As soon as the call connected, Lin Xue’er’s voice came through.
“It’s nothing urgent. I just hope you’ll instruct your group that, from now on, this project will be resolved directly with the Ye family as a whole. Remember, with the Ye family, not Ye Sihan.” Xiao Yu’s tone was calm.
Lin Xue’er paused for a moment, then understood. Clearly, the Ye family had done something to anger Xiao Yu again—how could they be so blind?
“Understood, Mr. Xiao. I’ll have someone contact the Ye family immediately and convey your wishes.” Lin Xue’er replied hastily.
“Good, that’s all.”
Xiao Yu hung up, slipped the phone back into his pocket, and looked impassively at Ye Xuan and his cronies.
“Haha, Xiao Yu, I have to say, your acting skills are truly remarkable. What a shame you’re not an actor.”
Ye Xuan stared at Xiao Yu, stunned for a moment before bursting into laughter. The other Ye family members laughed along with him.
“Xiao Yu, who do you think you are? You think a single word from you can make Huayi Group give up their partnership with the Ye family? You—”
Before Ye Xuan could finish, the sharp ring of a phone sliced through the air. He frowned, pulled out his phone, and when he saw the caller ID, a flash of joy crossed his face. He answered immediately.
But as he listened, his expression darkened with each passing second, and before he could say a single word, the caller abruptly hung up.
