Chapter 22: Xiao Yu’s Unmatched Strength (Fourth Update)
Xiao Yu watched as Li Quan suddenly became furious, not knowing the reason until a short while later, when Jiang Qin called to tell him about Li Minghan's death. Only then did he realize what was happening.
“Dead is dead. It’s nothing to fuss about. Goodbye.” Upon hearing of Li Minghan’s demise, Xiao Yu remained astonishingly calm, ending the call without another word.
Li Quan could no longer restrain his rage at Xiao Yu’s indifferent attitude. His anger finally erupted.
“Xiao Yu! Today I’ll kill you!” Li Quan roared, his face twisted in fury. He had lost all reason, no longer caring who Xiao Yu really was. The only thing on his mind was vengeance—he had to kill Xiao Yu today to avenge his two sons.
If Li Minghao’s death had pushed Li Quan to the edge of rage, Li Minghan’s death was the fuse that ignited the volcano. Both of Li Quan’s sons had, directly or indirectly, died at Xiao Yu’s hands. If he didn’t avenge them, he would be unworthy to call himself their father.
“Go! Kill him! Kill him now!” Li Quan shouted madly at his men. But the memory of Xiao Yu’s earlier display of strength lingered among them. They looked at each other, none daring to make a move.
Never mind Xiao Yu’s formidable skills—now Jiang Qin was involved as well. Offending both these men meant they’d never have a place in Phoenix City again.
Seeing that none of his men were acting, Li Quan yelled in desperation, “Go! Damn it, go! Whoever kills him gets twenty million!”
Money can make even the dead walk. At the mention of twenty million, the thugs’ eyes lit up with excitement. Why did they do this work, if not for power and money? Now, the opportunity to earn was right before them. Would they let it slip by?
No, they would not. At this moment, their gazes toward Xiao Yu were like hungry wolves eyeing a lamb, eager to tear into him.
Just then, a man burst from the crowd, steel blade in hand, rushing up behind Xiao Yu. He raised the blade high and swung it towards Xiao Yu’s back.
The assailant’s face was filled with glee as his blade neared Xiao Yu, certain that the twenty million was within his grasp.
But at that instant, a cold gleam flashed like a meteor. The thug froze, and under the stunned gaze of the crowd, he slowly collapsed.
A thin stream of blood trickled from his forehead, revealing a hole the size of a pinky finger.
“If you’re not afraid to die, come forward,” Xiao Yu said, not even turning his head, his tone and expression sending chills down everyone’s spine. No one dared to step forward, and they dropped their weapons to the ground.
They were truly terrified now. This man was not human; his mysterious abilities made them fear that if they approached, they wouldn’t even know how they died.
“Now it’s just you left. Do you want your body intact?” Xiao Yu looked at Li Quan, his voice icy cold.
Li Quan knew the situation was hopeless. His only leverage was the hostage in his grasp. He spoke gravely, “Xiao Yu, I admit I underestimated you. But with this girl in my hands, you won’t dare act. How about this: let me leave, and I’ll release her. What do you think?”
He spoke with confidence, certain Xiao Yu would agree. Yet, unexpectedly, Xiao Yu shook his head without hesitation.
Li Quan and Ye Xuemei were both stunned, especially Ye Xuemei. If Xiao Yu agreed, she would be rescued. But his resolute refusal felt like he was pushing her to her doom. Her gaze at Xiao Yu was filled with resentment.
“Xiao Yu! Are you really going to fight to the death?” Li Quan asked, confused.
“You overestimate yourself. Do you know why I’ve played along with you for so long? Because I want you to die in terror. You’ll die, but you won’t be able to kill her. That’s what I say!” Xiao Yu flicked his wrist, speaking calmly.
“Hahaha, Xiao Yu, when it comes to arrogance, I can’t compare to you! Kill me? Fine! Since I know I’m doomed, I might as well take someone with me—it’s worth it!” Li Quan’s eyes suddenly hardened, his face contorted in a ferocious expression. He raised the sharp blade and thrust it viciously towards Ye Xuemei’s abdomen, intent on ending her life with a single blow.
As the blade descended, Ye Xuemei screamed in terror. At that moment, Xiao Yu moved.
He stomped the tip of his right foot hard on the ground, which cracked instantly. A small, inconspicuous stone shot out like a bullet, heading straight for Li Quan’s wrist.
Just as the blade was about to pierce Ye Xuemei, the stone struck Li Quan’s wrist, punching through it and embedding itself in the wall behind.
