Chapter Fifty-Six: Killing the Chicken to Warn the Monkey
There was a muffled sound near his ear, as if something had been pierced through! Zhou Cheng's face turned ashen; it felt as if a cold wind had swept right through his body, and searing pain erupted from his chest!
He looked down and saw that Xiao Ye's arm had gone straight through his chest!
At that moment, he frantically tried to break free, but his legs went weak, and he collapsed to the ground.
Blood gushed uncontrollably from his mouth and nose.
"You... you..." he stammered twice, but couldn't manage another word.
In the next second, his breath ceased—he was dead.
Witnessing this, the onlookers could no longer contain themselves.
The scene was far too bloody—beyond anything ordinary people had ever seen.
Blood and viscera pooled on the floor; someone couldn't help but vomit.
The crowd scattered in chaos, fleeing the conference room like startled beasts.
The scene descended into utter disorder, the fleeing crowd shielding each other from view.
Everyone's faces were twisted in terror, their mouths agape as if they could swallow an entire egg, eyes nearly bulging from their sockets in shock.
It was as if the horrors of hell had descended before their very eyes!
Who was Zhou Cheng? The chief agent of the Jiangnan district!
His influence might not rival a nation, but he was certainly not someone to be trifled with!
Yet this young man before them had struck him down as easily as crushing an ant.
The ruthlessness of this man was beyond imagination.
Xiao Ye stood amidst the crowd, observing their reactions.
His gaze swept over them until it finally fixed upon Chu Chuang.
Even someone as experienced as Chu Chuang felt his scalp prickle at the sight.
The top floor of the building was a helicopter landing pad—designed precisely for emergencies such as this.
In utter panic, Chu Chuang cared for nothing but his own survival!
With Zhou Cheng dead, if he faced this man directly, he knew it would mean certain death.
There was only one path left: to run.
Chu Chuang moved against the flow of people, and soon the company's guards surrounded him.
"Quickly, stop him!" Chu Chuang shouted in terror, pointing back at Xiao Ye.
Though he knew full well these men could never stop Xiao Ye.
The guards rushed to intercept, swinging their fists in an attempt to block Xiao Ye's path.
A dozen men charged at him, yet Xiao Ye’s expression remained cold and unyielding.
The lead guard lunged at Xiao Ye, hoping to overpower him in close combat.
But before he could even get close, with a dull thud, he was sent flying.
The others, seeing their companion tossed aside, hesitated in fear but pressed on, gritting their teeth.
Xiao Ye dispatched them just as swiftly, tossing them aside one by one.
The entire skirmish lasted barely three minutes, and Xiao Ye emerged unscathed and unhurried.
His presence drew every eye.
"Kill him for me, now!" Chu Chuang shouted, his face twisted in terror, urging the guards forward.
But they could do nothing—each one was swiftly felled by Xiao Ye, left sprawled and motionless.
Once he finished with them, Xiao Ye strode slowly toward Chu Chuang.
"Don’t come any closer!" Chu Chuang pleaded, his face drained of color, despair flooding his heart.
How was this possible? Why was Xiao Ye here? He should have died in today's assassination attempt!
If only he’d never agreed to Jiang Zhongtao’s plan!
Xiao Ye’s face bore not a trace of emotion as he advanced like a harbinger of death.
"Why did you target me?" Xiao Ye asked coolly, fixing Chu Chuang with his gaze.
"I warn you—stay back! I’m the honorary president of the Jianghai Business Alliance—" Chu Chuang’s words were cut off by a piercing scream as the dagger Xiao Ye had seized earlier drove straight through his shoulder.
Beads of sweat as large as beans dripped down, his eyes bloodshot, saliva trailing from the corner of his mouth.
Xiao Ye stood before him like a true god of slaughter.
In an instant, Chu Chuang turned deathly pale, unable to withstand the crushing pressure.
His knees buckled, and he collapsed to the ground.
"Lord Xiao, I beg you, spare my life! I only did all this under Jiang Zhongtao’s orders! He made me do it!"
Chu Chuang finally understood the terror of facing Xiao Ye—his whole body trembled, his teeth chattering uncontrollably.
He wished nothing more than to vanish from Xiao Ye’s sight, but that was only a vain hope.
Xiao Ye stood before him, a demon incarnate.
Hearing Chu Chuang’s confession, several bystanders dropped to their knees in terror.
"Lord Xiao, please spare me!"
One man clung to Xiao Ye's pant leg, begging for mercy.
He only knew Chu Chuang’s background; he himself was just a minor member of the Jianghai Business Alliance—no match for such powerful clans.
He was flung aside, his body echoing with the sound of bones grinding and splintering, pain wracking him so fiercely he nearly wished for death.
But Chu Chuang cared nothing for his injuries—he forced himself up, enduring the agony, and begged Xiao Ye for mercy.
"Young Master Xiao, I know I was wrong—please, have mercy!"
Xiao Ye’s face remained cold and impassive. “If you have the courage to kill, then be prepared to die.”
Xiao Ye’s words made Chu Chuang’s face twist with renewed horror.
"Lord Xiao, I was blind to your power—please, don’t kill me! I beg you for another chance!"
"I hold many secrets of the Jianghai Business Alliance—let me serve you, I can help you!"
But Xiao Ye paid no heed.
The next moment, desperate cries filled the rooftop, Chu Chuang’s pleas for mercy echoing toward the sky.
Chu Chuang had finally tasted Xiao Ye’s wrath; but mercy was not to be found.
Within half a minute, the screams faded from the rooftop.
Only then, as Xiao Ye departed with a cold countenance, did the helicopter descend with a roar.
But all that awaited them was Chu Chuang’s cold corpse.
