Chapter Forty-Five: Purging the Underworld of the Southern District
Chapter 45: Cleaning Up the Southern District Underworld
Kong Zhong, Lu Feng, and Shan Hongning were utterly stunned. Was this the legendary Big Sister? She was as beautiful as a fairy, graceful as a gentlewoman, and radiated nothing but kindness from head to toe. There wasn’t the slightest trace of menace about her.
“All right, hurry and follow Brother Yun’s instructions. Take all these men away,” Qiangzi now spoke with the confidence of a superior.
“Um...” Though they didn’t quite know how to handle the situation, Kong Zhong and the others could only agree.
Qin Wan’er had already returned from work and stood listening outside the medicinal cuisine restaurant for a while, but nobody noticed her. Hearing that someone was about to take the law into their own hands, she could no longer stay silent.
“Who gave you the right to detain people without authorization?” Qin Wan’er spoke calmly as she walked into the restaurant, throwing a glare at Xu Yun, the instigator. “Do you know what the police are for?”
Qiangzi stuck out his tongue and quickly hid behind Xu Yun. Damn, why was this lady here again...
The Three Tigers of South City spun around at the sound of her voice, gasping in shock.
Good grief! Wasn’t this Qin Wan’er, the most sought-after police officer in Hedong City? The one who single-handedly took down Wang Shunxi’s Four Wolf Gang, the fierce beauty of the force?
“Hmm?” Qin Wan’er frowned slightly. These three looked familiar.
Of course, the Three Tigers had had plenty of dealings with the police station—after all, whenever there was a fight, they were the ones bailing out their underlings. Naturally, Qin Wan’er would recognize them.
Before the Three Tigers could speak, Qin Wan’er’s memory clicked into place. “So it’s you three, here to make trouble again? We’ve met at the station, haven’t we?”
Kong Zhong immediately put on a fawning smile, glancing at Xu Yun as he spoke. “Officer Qin, we wouldn’t dare—this... this isn’t our doing...”
“That’s right, Officer Qin. How would we dare cause trouble in your district?” Shan Hongning also glanced at Xu Yun, feigning innocence.
Lu Feng, having suffered at Qin Wan’er’s hands before, didn’t dare utter a word. Her reputation had spread far and wide in the underworld, and though he kept quiet, his intention was the same as the others: quietly shift Qin Wan’er’s attention to Xu Yun.
Xu Yun could only give Qin Wan’er a helpless look. Nothing good ever happened when she showed up. He feared that Wei Weiming and his men would be of no use tomorrow. “You’re off work early today? Missed me?”
Qin Wan’er shot him a glare. “Missed you? What are you up to this time? Care to explain what’s going on here?”
“They beat up my workers and came looking for trouble again today. I couldn’t just do nothing, could I?” Xu Yun pointed at Wei Weiming and his gang, who were now battered and half-conscious.
Qin Wan’er gritted her teeth. “Did you have to handle it yourself? Why not call the police?”
“I was afraid you were busy,” Xu Yun replied, though the excuse was flimsy.
Hearing that Qin Wan’er was back, Guoguo once again ran downstairs, beaming as she threw herself into Qin Wan’er’s arms. “Wan’er, I didn’t know you knew Teacher Su!”
Qin Wan’er ignored Xu Yun, reaching out to twist Guoguo’s ear. “You little rascal, what nonsense have you been telling Teacher Su? What’s this about me living with your dad?”
Everyone was struck dumb at once. The Three Tigers had never imagined that this man was so close to the legendary Qin Wan’er. At first, they hadn’t taken Xu Yun seriously. Now, they realized their mistake.
All three were thoroughly shaken. No wonder people say you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Xu Yun broke out in a cold sweat. Was this little troublemaker really helping him woo her beautiful teacher in such a way?
Ruan Qingshuang also came downstairs, looking at Guoguo with exasperation—there was simply no way to handle her.
“Qingshuang, the bureau handed out bonuses today. Dinner’s on me—wherever you want to go, just say the word!” Qin Wan’er smiled warmly at Ruan Qingshuang. “I’ve even invited Guoguo’s homeroom teacher. Let’s all sit down and get to know each other. By the way, Teacher Su is a friend of mine.”
Ruan Qingshuang was surprised by the news. “Really? Then I should be the one treating you!”
“I’ll call the station first.” Qin Wan’er took out her phone and dialed the Wenhui District station. “Xiao Wu? Bring a few officers to the medicinal cuisine restaurant. We’ve got some troublemakers here... Let’s see, about... thirty of them? Great, come quickly.”
Xu Yun felt a pang of regret—there went his workforce.
“Have you decided where to eat?” Qin Wan’er hung up and smiled at Ruan Qingshuang and Guoguo.
Guoguo rubbed her chin, thinking hard. “What should we eat... hmm...”
If the Three Tigers had been shocked before, now they were completely dumbfounded.
So Sister Shuang really was the kind of Big Sister they couldn’t even imagine! Not only did she have powerful figures like Xu Yun and Qiu Yan under her, but even Police Beauty Qin Wan’er called her “sister” and was inviting her to dinner!
Suddenly inspired, Shan Hongning suggested tentatively, “How about we go to my Hong Kong-Macau Hotpot City for a bite?”
Guoguo’s eyes lit up. “Do you have seafood? Fresh sashimi?”
“Yes, yes! Whatever you want!” Shan Hongning nodded eagerly. This was a golden opportunity—what underworld figure didn’t want to get on Officer Qin’s good side? And it was a chance to curry favor with the Big Sister as well.
“That’s right, let’s go to Xiao Shan’s place. We can eat whatever we like,” Kong Zhong added, ever the opportunist. He knew that if he offended Sister Shuang, he’d be finished—not to mention the mysterious Xu Yun, even the intimidating Qiu Yan would make his life hell.
Guoguo shot a sly look at the unfamiliar faces and pierced straight through Kong Zhong and Shan Hongning’s intentions. “You just want to tag along and suck up, don’t you? Is it because you won’t have to pay at the hotpot place?”
“Of course!” Shan Hongning thumped his chest. “Eat whatever you want. Sister Shuang, Officer Qin, you’re welcome anytime at Hong Kong-Macau Hotpot.”
“If I get the chance to serve Sister Shuang, that would be my honor!” Kong Zhong grinned obsequiously. “Sister Shuang, give us a chance to show our respect! Officer Qin, your presence would be a privilege for us!”
Ruan Qingshuang was completely bewildered. These were men who were notoriously tough and arrogant, yet here they were bowing and scraping to her, calling her “Sister Shuang” at every turn.
“All right, enough with the flattery!” Xu Yun waved his hand impatiently. “Since Guoguo wants hotpot, whoever owns the place, make the arrangements quickly. As for accompanying us, forget it—you’ll be doing something with me tonight.”
The Three Tigers froze, then quickly composed themselves, putting on serious faces. “Brother, just give us your orders!”
Qiu Yan came downstairs, gave them a cold glance, and said to Ruan Qingshuang, “Sister Qingshuang, if you ever need anything, just ask them. They wouldn’t dare refuse.”
“Uh, what do you mean by that?” Ruan Qingshuang was still completely lost.
Qin Wan’er looked wide-eyed at Qiu Yan and then at Xu Yun. Did they intend to make Ruan Qingshuang the boss of these underworld men? But she didn’t dare voice this thought—she was afraid Ruan Qingshuang couldn’t handle it right now.
Soon, Xiao Wu from the station arrived with his team and took Wei Weiming and his gang away, leaving the restaurant far less crowded.
“What’s your name again?” Xu Yun nodded at Shan Hongning.
Shan Hongning was thrilled. “Brother Yun, just call me Xiao Shan. My name’s Shan Hongning.”
“All right, Xiao Shan, you take Sister Shuang and the others for hotpot. Make sure everything’s arranged and bring them back tonight,” Xu Yun said bluntly. Since Qiu Yan had already subdued them, he might as well put them to use.
Shan Hongning accepted the order at once.
“Dad, aren’t you coming?” Guoguo looked disappointed. “Teacher Su is going! Isn’t this a perfect opportunity?”
Damn! That meant he definitely couldn’t go. Who knew what embarrassing things Guoguo might say at dinner?
Xu Yun shook his head vigorously. “Eat well, eat a lot—eat my share, too. And don’t say bad things about me to your teacher.”
“Xu Yun, you’re really not coming?” Ruan Qingshuang sounded a little disappointed.
“If I go, I’ll probably end up hotpotting myself,” Xu Yun joked, glancing at Guoguo. “You guys go ahead. I’m going to check on Pang Gang’s workers at the hospital. Let Xiao Shan take you.”
With that, Ruan Qingshuang said no more.
Qin Wan’er rolled her eyes. “Go or don’t, I’m only paying this once. There won’t be another chance.”
“But Wan’er, he said it’s free,” Guoguo pointed at Shan Hongning.
Shan Hongning nodded vigorously. This child was the daughter of Big Sister and Brother Yun—he couldn’t afford to offend her. “Of course! Sister Shuang and Officer Qin, if you come to my place, how could I charge you? It’s my honor!”
What a bunch of bootlickers... Qin Wan’er shook her head in exasperation. She had no idea what Xu Yun and Qiu Yan had done, but these three had never been so obsequious, even at the police station.
“Let’s go then!” Qin Wan’er waved her hand. Free food shouldn’t go to waste.
Shan Hongning immediately opened the door of his Audi Q5. “Sister Shuang, after you! Sister Yan, please! Officer Qin, this way!”
Guoguo gave a small cough.
Shan Hongning bent down at once. “Little beauty, after you!”
Qiu Yan took the front passenger seat, while Ruan Qingshuang and Qin Wan’er sat in the back with Guoguo between them. The five of them set off, leaving only Xu Yun, Qiangzi, Xiao Fei, Kong Zhong, and Lu Feng at the restaurant.
“Brother Yun, what do you need us to do?” Lu Feng asked cautiously. “Do you need more men?”
Kong Zhong chimed in. “Yeah, Brother Yun, if you need manpower, I have dozens of men at the sand yard!”
Xu Yun smiled and quietly told Qiangzi to send Xiao Fei and the other small fry away. Then he spoke to them. “Tonight, you two are coming with me for a little fun at the Tropical Rainforest Bathhouse.”
The Tropical Rainforest Bathhouse?!
Kong Zhong and Lu Feng turned pale. Wasn’t that Fan Nanjie’s territory? What was Xu Yun planning? If they were going to take on Fan Nanjie, they’d need numbers, not just the few of them.
“Brother, if you want to have fun... I can take you somewhere better. The girls there are even livelier than at Tropical Rainforest!” Kong Zhong blurted out nervously.
Xu Yun gave him a speechless look. “You think someone as handsome as me needs to pay for that?”
Lu Feng’s face changed. “Of course not, but... Brother, that bathhouse is Fan Nanjie’s.”
Xu Yun sneered, his eyes narrowing and a cold glint flashing within. He knew perfectly well whose territory it was. But with Qiu Yan already involved, it was time to clean up the criminal organizations in the southern district of Hedong City.
