Chapter 107: The Secret Chamber of the Villa
Chapter 107: The Villa’s Secret Room
Fifteen minutes earlier, Xu Yun and Qin Wan’er had finally arrived at the villa district in the eastern suburbs.
The development had originally been built for the wealthy. Only thirty villas had been constructed, and the residents were all genuinely rich or powerful people from Hedong City. Of course, the powerful usually did not live there themselves; it was their children who enjoyed the luxury.
The property management was therefore of the highest standard. Every security guard was a former soldier, and all of them were skilled fighters. There were absolutely none of the assorted, poorly trained guards employed by ordinary security companies.
Xu Yun had just reached the entrance when he was stopped.
“Sorry, may I see your access pass?” The guard was clearly well trained. After all, he guarded the homes of the wealthy and would not casually look down on people.
He had stopped Xu Yun’s car simply because no vehicle worth less than five hundred thousand yuan had ever entered or left this district. Even a fully equipped Audi A6 was considered too unimpressive to show off here. Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedans and BMW 7 Series cars were merely ordinary, while vehicles worth several million yuan had all appeared at one time or another.
“Will this do?” Qin Wan’er casually pulled out her police identification and held it up for the guard to see. “We’re investigating a case. I hope you’ll cooperate with law enforcement.”
“Yes!” The guard, being a former soldier, immediately saluted and waved them through. He even added enthusiastically, “If you need assistance from our security department, Officer, just give the order. Whatever you need us to do, we won’t complain.”
Seeing that Xu Yun remained expressionless, Qin Wan’er politely declined. “No need. Thank you.”
Xu Yun finally spoke. “All you need to do is tell us where the black Grand Cherokee with a license plate beginning with Hedong A63 is.”
The guard paused, then recalled it. “I did see it just now. The owner is a resident here. If I remember correctly, it should be Villa Eighteen, in the third row after entering.”
“Are you sure?” Qin Wan’er asked carefully.
The guard hesitated. He did have that impression, but he had never deliberately memorized the vehicle and did not dare guarantee it.
“He isn’t sure, but I am.” Xu Yun thanked the guard calmly and drove inside.
“What if you’re wrong?” Qin Wan’er said helplessly. “I don’t have a search warrant. If we go to the wrong house, the owners could sue us for unlawful entry.”
Xu Yun was unconcerned. “I trust the instincts of a former soldier. Besides, even if we are wrong, it doesn’t matter. This is China, not America. Residents don’t have the right to shoot intruders dead on sight.”
Though Qin Wan’er was thoroughly exasperated, she could only let Xu Yun proceed as he wished.
The guard remained uneasy. Half an hour after the two of them drove inside, he eventually followed them over. But that was a matter for later.
After Xu Yun parked, a length of wire somehow appeared in his hand. He easily climbed over the villa’s wall and skillfully hooked open the security door with the wire. By the time Qin Wan’er laboriously climbed over the wall, Xu Yun had already forced his way inside.
“Were you a master thief in the past?” Qin Wan’er asked in astonishment. “Hey, there’s no one here. Can’t we avoid doing this? If we’ve come to the wrong house, we’ll really be breaking the law.”
After calmly analyzing the situation, Xu Yun found the door leading from the garage into the house and swiftly opened it. Sure enough, the black Grand Cherokee was parked inside.
Qin Wan’er immediately fell silent. She quickly drew her service pistol, and her expression grew tense.
Xu Yun closed the door behind them.
“Can you be a little quieter?” Qin Wan’er said, instantly on edge. What if the suspect upstairs heard them?
Xu Yun did not agree. “He definitely isn’t inside the house. If he were, the sound of you speaking when you came in would have alerted him.”
After entering, Xu Yun had already sensed the surroundings. He could not detect the presence of anyone.
“Then where could he be?” Qin Wan’er asked in surprise.
Suddenly, an extremely faint tremor traveled up through the floor. Ordinary people would never have noticed it, but Xu Yun knew that sound waves could produce such subtle vibrations. If someone shouted directly beside your ear, for example, your eardrum would vibrate with a ringing hum.
Xu Yun recognized the vibration as the sound of someone roaring from within a completely enclosed space.
“There’s a secret room here,” he said suddenly.
Qin Wan’er’s eyes widened. This was not some detective game, was it? A secret room in a villa? It sounded like something out of a film starring a deranged serial killer.
Xu Yun switched on the living-room light and carefully examined the floor. The villa had clearly gone uncleaned for quite some time. The dust was not obvious, but it was enough for Xu Yun to distinguish the traces with his naked eyes.
Following a mark where something had been wiped away, Xu Yun quickly found a heavy concealed door in the storage room beside the kitchen.
This was probably the entrance to an underground chamber.
The moment he thought of Su Xiaoran possibly being tortured inside, a murderous aura erupted from Xu Yun. He suddenly drove his foot into the heavy iron door.
The door could not withstand the tremendous impact. It tore free from its frame and crashed onto the floor of the basement.
Qin Wan’er, following behind Xu Yun, nearly cried out in shock. If she had not seen it with her own eyes, she would never have believed that such a secret room truly existed.
“Xu Yun!”
Su Xiaoran’s voice, choked with joy and tears, pierced the dim space.
Liu Tianyi stared wide-eyed at the bastard who had suddenly burst in. He could not believe that anyone had found this place. And even if someone had found it, how had he gotten inside?
“Xiaoran! You’re really here?” Qin Wan’er hurriedly urged Xu Yun to go down after hearing her cry.
Hearing her best friend’s voice, Su Xiaoran finally broke down completely. “Wan’er, hurry and save me! Please, save me!”
Xu Yun and Qin Wan’er descended into the basement. Liu Tianyi’s nerves instantly tightened. He quickly seized the scissors he had used to cut the ropes binding Su Xiaoran and pressed them against her neck.
“Don’t come any closer! Take one more step and I’ll kill her!” Liu Tianyi’s mind had long since become warped. From the moment he kidnapped Su Xiaoran, he had already lost his humanity.
Qin Wan’er swiftly raised her pistol. “Put down the scissors! I’m a police officer. You have nowhere left to run. I advise you to surrender immediately!”
A vicious glint flashed in Liu Tianyi’s eyes. Her words had no effect whatsoever; instead, they further inflamed his fury.
“I’m going to count to three! If you don’t lower your gun, I’ll stab her in the stomach! One! Two!”
“Wait!” Qin Wan’er shouted angrily. “Let’s make a deal! You release her, and I’ll let you go!”
“You think I’ll believe a police officer’s word?” Liu Tianyi threw back his head and laughed several times. “I’d sooner believe a sow could climb a tree than believe anything a police officer says! Heh heh, but I’ve changed my mind. I want you to shoot the man beside you!”
Qin Wan’er and Su Xiaoran were both stunned.
All of Liu Tianyi’s resentment had been caused by that man. He glared furiously at Xu Yun and said to Qin Wan’er, “I want you to shoot him! Shoot him in the leg! If you don’t, I’ll stab her in the leg with these scissors!”
Qin Wan’er was thrown into complete panic. She had never encountered a situation like this.
“No!”
Qin Wan’er and Su Xiaoran screamed at the same time. Qin Wan’er was begging Liu Tianyi, whose mind had become twisted, not to harm Su Xiaoran. Su Xiaoran was begging Qin Wan’er not to shoot Xu Yun.
Liu Tianyi raised the scissors and began counting with a cold smile.
“One!”
“It can’t be…”
Qin Wan’er’s hands trembled around the pistol. Liu Tianyi was hiding completely behind Su Xiaoran, and she did not dare fire at him.
“Two!”
Qin Wan’er’s mind went completely blank. She could not choose. She could not bring herself to shoot Xu Yun, but neither could she stand by and watch Su Xiaoran be stabbed.
Su Xiaoran gritted her teeth and prepared herself for the agony. She would rather be injured herself than let Qin Wan’er shoot Xu Yun for her sake. Both women’s minds were blank as they silently waited for Liu Tianyi to utter the final number.
“Three.”
But the voice clearly did not belong to Liu Tianyi.
The instant Liu Tianyi opened his mouth, Xu Yun’s figure flashed. He appeared directly in front of Liu Tianyi, and before Liu Tianyi could react, the scissors had already been snatched from his hand.
When Xu Yun said the word “three,” Liu Tianyi suddenly felt a burst of excruciating pain in his thigh.
Looking down, he saw that Xu Yun had forcibly driven the scissors into his leg. Infused with Xu Yun’s internal energy, the blades tore through the muscles of Liu Tianyi’s thigh and buried themselves in the bone. The pain of the fractured bone was utterly unbearable.
“Argh—!”
Liu Tianyi collapsed in agony. Xu Yun followed without hesitation, kicking him five meters away and sending him crashing into several bottles of liquor stored in the basement. The scent of alcohol immediately filled the room.
Qin Wan’er hurried forward and untied the ropes binding Su Xiaoran. The instant she was freed, Su Xiaoran felt as though she had returned to the world of the living. She clung tightly to Qin Wan’er and burst into tears.
Xu Yun had shown no mercy this time. His kick, infused with internal energy, had left Liu Tianyi completely disoriented, as though all the organs inside his body had been churned together. That single blow rendered him unconscious, and he no longer showed any sign of life.
“The rest can be left to the police,” Qin Wan’er said at last. She did not want Xu Yun to administer his own punishment.
Xu Yun nodded. “But this is the Eastern District. You know what Qi Yishan of the Eastern District police station is like.”
Qin Wan’er smiled faintly. “Isn’t his maternal uncle, Jin Biao, already under Sister Qingshuang’s command? I’m also worried that Qi Yishan might abuse his position to protect someone. So I want you to have Jin Biao come forward as well and give his nephew a few words of advice.”
“Uh… That’s a good idea.” Xu Yun nodded. “I never realized you were quite clever.”
After Xu Yun dragged Liu Tianyi out of the villa, the security guards arrived at the entrance as well. They had already called the police before he even needed to report the matter, though Qin Wan’er still personally gave her statement.
When Qi Yishan, chief of the Tuo Mountain District police station, heard that Qin Wan’er was involved, he did not use the personnel from the eastern-suburb station. Instead, he personally brought officers over to handle the case.
Xu Yun was not idle either. He had Shan Hongning contact Jin Biao and tell him to wait at the Tuo Mountain District police station because Xu Yun had something to say to him. Jin Biao would never have dared object. He remembered clearly what they had done to Ma Pinghai that day, and Ma Pinghai had since died under mysterious circumstances. Jin Biao immediately drove over.
Because the true culprit behind Ma Pinghai’s death had not yet been discovered, Jin Biao had always suspected that it had been done by a woman named Qiu Yan.
