Chapter Sixty-Seven: So What If I Assaulted a Police Officer?

Though at the last moment Xu Yun managed to catch Jin Biao, this was not Wenhui District, and the local police station here had no Qin Wan’er. Jin Biao was escorted to the hospital, while Xu Yun was taken to the station.

It was already past nine in the evening. Three officers were on duty, all appearing quite young, barely in their twenties—likely temporary hires on short-term contracts. The two officers who brought Xu Yun in tossed him directly into the interrogation room, barking, “Wait here!”

Xu Yun made himself comfortable in the chair, sprawling out, but his ears missed none of the sounds from outside.

The officer with the shrill, eunuch-like voice spoke first: “This guy’s arrogant, assaulted our Chief Qi’s cousin right on the street, and wrecked that big Benz.”

“Damn, really? What’s his background?” another voice asked—one Xu Yun hadn’t heard before, probably one of the three on night duty.

“Who knows? He’s dead meat anyway. To lay hands on Jin Biao in Tuoshan District—he must have a death wish,” the shrill voice continued.

“Exactly, who doesn’t say so?” he sneered.

Suddenly, the station phone rang. The shrill-voiced officer answered absent-mindedly, “Who is it?”

The moment he heard the reply, his expression turned serious. “Hello, Chief Qi! What are your instructions? … Yes! … Yes! … Yes! … No worries, we’ll handle this well! … Good, good, goodbye, Chief Qi!”

Hanging up, he grinned slyly, whistled, and turned to his colleagues: “Brothers, Chief Qi says this guy’s tough—robbed a car right on the main road. We need to interrogate him properly.”

The group exchanged knowing smiles. One raised his brow, catching the drift: “So the Cruze stolen from Huiquan Garden the other day was probably this guy’s doing?”

“Not just that one—there was a BMW stolen from Blue Mountain Bay Villas, too.” The shrill voice chuckled, waving his hand. “Let’s get to work!”

All five entered the interrogation room together. The tallest one went straight to turn off the surveillance camera.

Xu Yun sat with his hands behind his back, smiling at them. Aside from the shrill-voiced officer, the others were clearly not official police—just temps hired for backup, no formal status, earning seven or eight hundred yuan at most.

“So, will you confess voluntarily, or what?” The shrill voice deliberately glanced at the camera, then said to Xu Yun, “Our station’s surveillance often breaks down, heh. So whatever you say or do, we’ll record it on paper.”

The thinnest of the five sat at the interrogation desk, took out a notebook and pen, and looked up at Xu Yun. “Alright, anything to confess, say it now.”

“Where’s Jin Biao?” Xu Yun ignored their questions and asked straight away.

They were stunned—this guy was a real piece of work, not a hint of fear on his face.

But the shrill-voiced officer quickly figured it out. Anyone who dared confront Jin Biao publicly wasn’t afraid of death and certainly wouldn’t be easily intimidated.

Still, he wasn’t worried. After all, Xu Yun was handcuffed—no matter how tough, with his hands behind his back, he was just another helpless prisoner.

The tall officer pulled out a rubber baton from somewhere, sneered, and raised it.

“Hold on, give him a chance,” the shrill voice said, waving his hand.

The tall one grunted, and the buzz-cut beside him pulled out a steel baton, flicking it open with a snap. “How many times have I told you, that thing doesn’t hurt when you hit people.”

The tall officer shrugged. “But mine leaves no visible marks.”

The buzz-cut snorted. “We’ll just say he assaulted police and tried to escape. Without surveillance, who can prove anything?”

“True!” The tall officer suddenly saw reason.

The shrill voice, seeing their lines delivered, waved his hand. “Close the door!”

Xu Yun found their theatrics amusing. If they were dealing with a rookie, someone who’d never been inside a station before, these scare tactics would probably work. Intimidation and threats were their first move against tough suspects.

The shrill voice made sure the door was shut, turned on the recorder, and said to Xu Yun, “I’m giving you a chance. Cooperate and tell us—why did you resort to robbing cars on the highway?”

Xu Yun didn’t even glance at him, replying with disdain, “You’re trying to frame and falsely accuse me, is that it?”

Immediately enraged, the shrill voice slapped off the recorder and glared at Xu Yun. “Don’t think I don’t know you’re a Wenhui District punk. Let me tell you, this is Tuoshan District, not Wenhui. You want to act tough here? Forget it!”

“And what will you do?” Xu Yun smiled faintly.

“If you won’t talk, I have ways to make you!” The shrill voice glared, then instructed his colleagues, “Show him what we’re about—he probably doesn’t know what police are for.”

The tall officer, receiving the order, kicked at Xu Yun with his heavy shoe, wind whistling behind the blow!

Xu Yun lightly lifted the chair on three legs, leaving just one touching the ground, and spun effortlessly out of the way, dodging the kick with nonchalance. Another officer, furious, swung a punch at him, but Xu Yun, still seated, spun the chair back to its original position on one leg.

The shrill voice and the recorder were dumbfounded—they hadn’t even seen how he managed it!

The buzz-cut officer, frustrated, raised his baton and brought it down with force at Xu Yun’s head. With no cameras, he had no fear of consequences.

But before the steel baton could strike, Xu Yun’s left hand shot up, catching it easily, his face full of contempt—a look that infuriated them. The buzz-cut tried desperately to yank the baton back but couldn’t move it at all. Enraged, he grabbed it with both hands, trying to wrest it free.

The shrill voice was utterly stunned—he’d personally handcuffed Xu Yun! How were his hands suddenly free?

Xu Yun released the baton’s steel head, causing the buzz-cut, using all his strength, to stumble back two steps and slam into the wall. Furious, he shouted, “Damn!”

With a curse, he swung the baton again. Unable to tolerate Xu Yun’s disdainful expression any longer, he attacked.

Xu Yun tossed the handcuffs at the charging buzz-cut, who cried out in pain, dropped the baton, and clutched his wrist, squatting on the floor in agony.

Smack! The shrill voice slammed the table and roared, “You dare assault a police officer! Do you know what kind of crime that is!”

Xu Yun sneered, pointing at the camera, “No evidence. Go ahead, try to accuse me.”

Infuriated, the shrill voice clenched his fists. This bastard wanted to play games with him? Fine, he’d show him their methods, see who was tougher!

“Brothers, this guy assaulted police. If we beat him half to death tonight, it’s not against regulations!” The shrill voice sneered. “Do it! I’ll take responsibility if anything happens!”

With the official’s word, the group raised their weapons and closed in on Xu Yun. Yet Xu Yun didn’t even move his feet—he simply dodged left and right, unharmed.

Before they could attack again, Xu Yun’s seemingly weak fists struck their abdomens. The officers who had tried to force a confession now clutched their stomachs, squatting on the floor, faces contorted in pain.

Especially the shrill voice, whose forehead was covered in sweat from the pain.

Suddenly, the interrogation room door swung open. The middle-aged officer whom Xu Yun had seen before appeared.

“Deputy Tian… He assaulted police…” the shrill voice groaned.

The middle-aged officer frowned but said nothing. Qin Wan’er appeared behind him, seeing it was indeed Xu Yun. She thought silently, Why couldn’t he hold back?

“Yes, this is my informant!” Qin Wan’er declared to Deputy Tian, “Deputy Tian, Xu Yun is my undercover in the underworld—Director Chen knows about this. If you don’t believe me, call him.”

Deputy Tian’s brow furrowed. The girl was invoking the director, but he was an old hand in the police force. He smiled slightly, “I can’t make that decision, Instructor Qin. Let’s wait for Chief Qi to return before we discuss this.”

As they spoke, a car pulled up outside. Chief Qi Yishan, hearing that Qin Wan’er had come for someone, diverted from his planned hospital visit to his cousin Jin Biao and returned to the station.

“Oh, I wondered who it was—so it’s the famous Qin beauty. At this hour, you must have something important,” Qi Yishan said. Even at night, he wore a crisp uniform, his rank one level above Qin Wan’er’s, his position likewise.

Qin Wan’er, seeing Qi Yishan, smiled politely. “Chief Qi, the man you arrested is my informant. I think there’s been some misunderstanding, so I hope you’ll release him.”

Qi Yishan was momentarily surprised. “Informant?”

“If you don’t believe me, ask Director Chen,” Qin Wan’er replied calmly. In truth, there was no such arrangement—she was improvising out of desperation.

Qi Yishan’s brow furrowed noticeably. He knew Qin Wan’er had recently made several big cases in Wenhui District, and Director Chen favored her, so he’d rather err on the side of caution.

“Heh, since he’s your informant, there must be a misunderstanding,” Qi Yishan smiled. “Of course, I’ll release him.”

He nodded to the middle-aged officer.

The officer was surprised at Qi Yishan’s quick decision, but followed orders, telling Xu Yun in the interrogation room, “You can come out.”

The shrill voice cried out in agony, “Chief Qi! You can’t let him go! He assaulted police—he attacked us!”

Qi Yishan’s expression changed, a smile playing on his lips as he turned to Qin Wan’er, “Qin beauty, this complicates things. Even if he’s your informant, assaulting police can’t be overlooked, can it? He attacked my men—I need an explanation.”
