Chapter Eighty-Two: My Good Son
Feng Rui was left speechless by Su Wan Ning’s question. It took her quite a while before she could force out an explanation, “I... I was just joking earlier, it was harmless, wasn’t it?”
Su Wan Ning didn’t continue to reproach her, but merely sighed softly.
“No wonder you’re not part of our entertainment industry. If you were, you’d understand that with our status, we’re constantly watched by countless eyes. One wrong word and people will latch onto it, launching attacks online. But... it’s understandable you don’t know.”
Her words were cleverly crafted, simultaneously highlighting Feng Rui’s less-than-pure intentions and subtly mocking her for not even reaching the threshold of the entertainment circle.
Feng Rui had brought along her disliked stepson to the show purely for exposure, hoping her youth and beauty would help her make a name for herself and earn a handsome profit.
Yet now, Su Wan Ning’s words had unintentionally slapped her in the face in front of everyone.
Feng Rui’s expression grew darker and gloomier. At that moment, Yan Shan Shan, who had remained silent, finally spoke up, “Wan Ning, let it go. She didn’t mean it. It’s really not such a big deal.”
She played the role of the magnanimous mediator, clearly trying to profit from their conflict by appearing as the peacemaker.
But Su Wan Ning would not give her that chance.
“Sister Shan Shan, you’re a senior in the industry, so I shouldn’t be the one to say this. But I have no choice. Ever since I joined the show, I’ve been targeted and maligned. I feel wronged, just like last time when I was selling grapes and suddenly negative reviews popped up out of nowhere. Who could I turn to for justice?”
Her words successfully chilled Yan Shan Shan’s expression as well, and remembering the evidence in those emails, Shan Shan dared not say another word.
Off-camera, Vincent quietly raised his hand and gave her a thumbs-up.
She truly was the artist he had mentored—unstoppable.
Dinner was unusually quiet. Apart from Tian Bo Yu and Su Wan Ning occasionally cracking a few jokes, no one spoke much. Feng Rui, in particular, didn’t even finish her meal before rising and making a hasty excuse to leave.
And for Su Wan Ning, it was the most comfortable meal she had ever had.
That night, another email landed in Su Wan Ning’s inbox, containing evidence of Feng Rui’s affair with Ming Ming’s father—photos, videos, and records of financial transactions.
Looking at those confidential account details, which could only be accessed by the parties involved or insiders, Su Wan Ning realized that some matters could no longer be left unchecked.
So, after dinner when everyone was about to rest, Su Wan Ning called Sui Sui to accompany her on a walk.
Nian Nian opened her eyes wide, “Mommy, I want to go with you too.”
“Nian Nian, be good. Mommy will take you tomorrow. It’s too late tonight; you need to rest early, okay?”
“Okay!” Nian Nian was always obedient. Hearing this, she didn’t protest but nestled up to Da Xi, closing her eyes and falling quietly asleep.
Su Wan Ning took Sui Sui by the hand and left, reminding the cameraman not to follow.
Sui Sui was clever and had already guessed that Su Wan Ning might have something important to say. The two of them walked a long way, leaving the filming site far behind before Su Wan Ning led him to sit on a hillside.
Though it was night and visibility was low, the stars above were bright, and the vast sky soothed the heart.
“Sui Sui, you sent me those files, didn’t you?”
The little one didn’t answer, his silence saying it all. Su Wan Ning continued gently, “Why did you prepare those for me?”
She patiently waited; after a long time, Sui Sui finally spoke in a muffled voice, “Those people bullied you.”
Su Wan Ning laughed, pulling her son into her arms.
A child’s world is simple—black and white. Perhaps Su Wan Ning had made many mistakes in the past, and Sui Sui had only felt pure hatred for her.
But now, new memories had replaced the old, and Sui Sui had unwittingly accepted Su Wan Ning as his mother, standing up for her.
“Sui Sui, I want to thank you. What you gave me helped a lot.”
Her sincerity made Sui Sui’s cheeks flush, and he replied, a bit awkwardly, “It was simple.”
“I know these things are easy for you to find, so you’re amazing. But Sui Sui, promise me you won’t do this again so easily?”
At her words, the little one looked up sharply, his dark pupils filled with hurt and disappointment.
“Why?”
Su Wan Ning explained slowly, “Our country has laws. Invading someone’s privacy—listening in—can easily cross legal boundaries. More importantly, these are the things people least want others to see. If they find out someone has this information, what do you think they’ll do?”
The little one frowned tightly, digesting her words.
Su Wan Ning’s expression grew more serious, her voice low but firm. “They’ll do everything they can to retaliate and suppress you, until they eliminate the threat. That’s human nature. Sui Sui, I don’t want you to be caught in such danger. Promise me, unless I give permission, don’t do these things again, okay?”
In the deep night, Sui Sui looked into Su Wan Ning’s eyes and nodded earnestly.
And in that moment, the long-standing barrier between mother and son melted away without a word.
When they returned, Su Wan Ning discovered that everyone was still awake.
The yurt was brightly lit. Tian Bo Yu had been called over and was demonstrating the model’s walk to the others.
Ming Ming, now lively again after his toothache had healed, mischievously followed Tian Bo Yu, mimicking his steps.
The other children joined in too. As Su Wan Ning entered, she saw Nian Nian following Tian Bo Yu. Though she was the youngest, her walk was surprisingly professional.
Su Wan Ning took note of it.
After the laughter and games, she smiled and asked Tian Bo Yu, “Did you teach Nian Nian just now? She walked really well.”
Tian Bo Yu hadn’t noticed the tiny Nian Nian before, who barely reached his knee.
“Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. May we ask little Nian Nian to show us again?”
Su Wan Ning respected the child’s wishes, and Nian Nian was not shy. She got up, walked to the center of the yurt, and, accompanied by music, strode in rhythm, perfectly imitating the model’s walk.
Everyone was stunned. Her professionalism far exceeded what one would expect from a child under four experiencing a model’s walk for the first time.
Tian Bo Yu was even more amazed, “This child is so talented! Has she learned before?”
Su Wan Ning shook her head.
“Then she’s really suited to be a model!”
