Chapter Forty-One: A Sister’s Irresistible Charm
[Yu Xin is so diligent, she’s done so much research.]
[I’m starting to look forward to her pairing with Da Xi, go for it!]
On the first day at the village, the director’s team merely arranged accommodations and let everyone get familiar with their surroundings.
That same day, the new duo of Yu Xin and Da Xi immediately shot to the trending topics.
Yu Xin already had high popularity, and with Da Xi’s adorable appearance and Yu Xin’s prior preparation, their combination was an instant hit.
But this caused no ripples for Su Wan Ning. Despite a noticeable decline in her livestream viewership, she continued to tour the house with excitement, accompanied by Sui Sui and Nian Nian.
Compared to the impoverished village from last time, this one was much better in every regard.
The assigned house was a two-story wooden cottage: the first floor for guests and the kitchen, the second for bedrooms.
The house was enveloped by lush greenery, and not far off lay a small fish pond—life here was undeniably convenient.
“Looks like the show made good money last time—the budget is much more generous now.”
After surveying the place, Su Wan Ning commented to the camera.
At that moment, Vincent stood behind the lens, gesturing anxiously at her.
Su Wan Ning told the cameraman to go film the children, then stepped aside with Vincent into a corner of the room.
“My little ancestor, you’re still leisurely touring the house? Your streaming numbers are plummeting—everyone’s flocking to Yu Xin!”
Su Wan Ning remained calm: “She’s a new guest after all, viewers are curious. It’s normal for everyone to check her out on the first day. Besides, live streaming has its ups and downs—no need to fret.”
Vincent was beside himself: “Her style is so similar to yours, and her fanbase was already strong. Aren’t you worried at all?”
Su Wan Ning shrugged, her expression enigmatic as she slowly shook her head: “Vincent, have you ever heard this saying?”
“What?” Vincent leaned closer.
Su Wan Ning moved to his ear and declared confidently, “No one can resist my charm!”
With that, she patted Vincent’s shoulder and reminded him sternly, “Stop worrying. How’s the milk tea shop going? The location I liked last time, you absolutely must secure it for me—that’s the real priority!”
While Su Wan Ning continued her stream at home, Yu Xin was already out and about, leading Da Xi and her audience on a tour of the village.
“This is an orchard—here we grow guavas, and over there are figs.”
She stopped before the fruit trellis.
“As you all know, there’s an abundance of fruit varieties here. Guava and fig are two I personally enjoy. Guava aids digestion, and figs are rich in vitamins, making them especially suitable for women.”
[What’s happening? Is she planning to start selling products?]
[This feels oddly familiar...]
[When Su Wan Ning sold grapes, she wasn’t nearly as stiff—copying without finesse, hilarious.]
Soon enough, viewers noticed a small yellow cart icon appear in the lower right corner of the stream, linking to figs and guavas.
[Honestly, I live up north and have never tried these fruits.]
[I tried guava once—it tasted like nothing, figs are just ordinary, really not as good as apples or bananas, and they’re more expensive.]
[Figs are delicious, sweet as honey—let’s go!]
Yu Xin continued smiling at her audience, a fruit farmer standing beside her.
“Folks, Master Zhao here is the orchard’s farmer, and all the fruit you see is his handiwork.”
The camera panned behind them, revealing an enormous orchard, while Master Zhao beamed with pride.
“Hello, everyone! Choosing our fruit means peace of mind and great value. We supply major supermarkets, so quality is guaranteed!”
[Way too expensive, not worth it.]
[My Su Jie genuinely helps the poor, you’re just profiteering under the guise of charity.]
[+1, this is a bit shameless. I’m a local and honestly, these fruits are everywhere and not nearly as pricey.]
[Ignore the naysayers! We’ll buy anything from Xin Xin, expensive or not—supporting her no matter what!]
Yu Xin still led her viewers around the orchard, showing the fruit picking process, while Da Xi did a modest eating broadcast at the side.
Da Xi’s cheeks were flushed—whether from heat or shyness, no one could tell—but he focused on eating, saying nothing.
Elsewhere, the director behind the camera gave Yu Xin a grim look and shook his head.
Fruit sales were disappointing, nowhere near the numbers Su Wan Ning had achieved selling grapes.
The director’s team had coordinated the fruit sales with Yu Xin in advance, believing that fresh produce from its origin would be even more popular after Su Wan Ning’s grape sales success. But contrary to their expectations…
They’d already paid a deposit to lease the orchard, so unsold fruit would mean huge losses for the show.
Yu Xin’s smile faltered for a moment, but she pressed on with even more energetic commentary, though the viewers remained unmoved.
[What’s going on? We’re here for the show, not a sales pitch!]
[Are we watching a program or a commercial? Don’t use rural aid as a marketing ploy—is Yu Xin being played by the director’s team?]
Meanwhile, the backend saw orders crawl upward, and Wang Zan’s expression was grave.
“Enable shopping carts in all the guests’ streams.”
Chen Rui hesitated. “Do you really want to do this, Director? The audience thinks the prices are too high—maybe we should…”
“The goods are already sold, how can we change prices now? Do as I say!”
Half an hour later, viewers found the yellow cart icon in every family’s livestream.
[The show’s just cashing in now, huh?]
[Really, these are overpriced, and Yu Xin shouldn’t have to keep pitching them.]
It was sweltering; Ming Ming refused to leave the comfort of the air conditioning, and Feng Rui, eager to maintain her wholesome image, stayed with him inside.
Upon spotting the cart, Feng Rui rolled her eyes inwardly, but kept a practiced smile.
“The fruit here is really delicious—I've bought some to send home. If you need any, just order from my stream.”
[Is that true? Didn’t see her eat anything just now.]
[Sitting here all day isn’t boring? I’m going to check another stream.]
By contrast, Yin Shan Shan remained composed; she saw the cart but ignored it, carrying on with her livestream as usual.
Meanwhile, Su Wan Ning, quick to catch on to the director’s intentions, added other links to her own cart.
“Yes, the shopping cart was enabled by the production team.”
“Fruit? I haven’t tried it, but these two varieties are naturally pricey—order only if it suits your budget.”
As she spoke, Su Wan Ning pulled out a white sunscreen from her bag.
“This is what I’m using today—I’ve used it for a long time. It’s affordable, has a high SPF, and doesn’t cause breakouts or allergies. Perfect for this weather.”
[Military training’s coming up—this is a must-have!]
[I’ve used this brand before—it’s cheap, and you won’t feel bad using it on your arms or neck.]
