Chapter Forty: The Fan Club's Spontaneous Defense
“Don’t say that. Look, your fan club is already taking the initiative to manage the comments!”
Su Wan’ning was taken aback. Sure enough, the screen showed that several people had switched to matching profile pictures, and were systematically countering the false statements from the trolls in the comment section.
“If you don’t know the whole story, don’t make judgments. Do you know what happened that day? Attacking Su Wan’ning here for no reason—aren’t you afraid of being proven wrong?”
“Haven’t you learned your lesson from the previous incidents? Su Wan’ning is definitely not that kind of person. We’re waiting for her to clear things up!”
One comment after another, and for once, Su Wan’ning felt a rare sense of being touched.
She had easily accepted the identity and image of this body, and always held a detached attitude toward the online chatter, thinking that, after all, the person being attacked wasn’t really her.
But gradually, without noticing when it started, Su Wan’ning found herself laughing at her fans’ comments, and felt genuine gratitude when the viewership in her livestream surged because of their support.
She had always been a livestream host, and had encountered plenty of baseless online abuse since her debut. Su Wan’ning thought she had long since developed an unbreakable heart of steel. Yet today, seeing someone stand up for her for the first time, she was unexpectedly moved.
Vincent, watching her expression from the side, couldn’t help but smile.
“So, are you still planning not to clarify things? Otherwise, you’ll let your fans down for trusting you.”
A deeper seriousness crept into Su Wan’ning’s eyes.
Since the incident, Feng Rui had not spoken a single word.
If that was the case, she couldn’t be blamed for showing no mercy.
Ten minutes later, Su Wan’ning’s fans were amazed to see her suddenly share the video posted by the production team, and directly tag Feng Rui.
“Ms. Feng, I’m not sure if you’ve seen this video. Because of some malicious editing, many people in the comment section are attacking my fans. Only the people involved know what really happened that day. If you won’t come forward to explain, I’ll have to do it for you.”
Su Wan’ning’s blunt comment instantly stirred up another round of heated discussion.
Perhaps because her stance was so firm, many neutral onlookers began to waver, suspecting there might be another side to the story.
Su Wan’ning waited calmly, and as expected, a dozen minutes later, Feng Rui appeared on social media and personally left a comment in response.
“I’m truly sorry. I haven’t been paying attention to things online today, and didn’t expect such a small misunderstanding to cause such a stir. There was indeed a bit of an allergic reaction that day. In my anxiety, I wrongly blamed Miss Su. She was only acting out of concern for the child. I hope everyone won’t over-discuss this and will watch the show with reason.”
Her words were vague and evasive, but this lack of a direct response only deepened people’s suspicions that Feng Rui had something to hide.
“She’s being so ambiguous—I bet it’s because this stepmother didn’t know what foods the child was allergic to, and ended up blaming Su Wan’ning instead.”
“Su Wan’ning doesn’t seem like someone who would cause trouble on purpose. After watching so many of her streams, I think she actually has a strong sense of justice.”
Meanwhile, back in country H, Qin Jingchen was watching events unfold.
Seeing Su Wan’ning facing wave after wave of online abuse, he could only hasten to finish his work. But when he returned two days ahead of schedule, he was told that Su Wan’ning had already left with the child for a new filming location.
The production team’s second stop was a tropical village in Wen City, a renowned tourist destination.
The village’s tropical climate meant it was warm all year round, with especially high temperatures in the summer. But this also meant Wen City was rich in resources, famous nationwide for its fruit and vegetable production.
When all the families gathered at the village entrance, the director finally announced the new guest.
“I’m sure everyone has been looking forward to this. Let me now reveal the mystery guest for this episode—Yu Xin!”
The livestream viewers were taken aback. Yu Xin, a graduate of the film academy, had shot to fame after starring in an ensemble sitcom right at her debut.
Since then, Yu Xin had become a regular on major variety shows. Her lively personality made her a top-tier variety star.
Any show that managed to book Yu Xin was basically guaranteed high ratings.
[Wow, it’s really Xin Xin! This show is getting better and better.]
[But Xin Xin doesn’t have a child—this is her first time on a parenting show.]
“At the same time, after an online vote, we’ve picked one child from thousands of applicants to be Yu Xin’s partner for this show, so they can experience the program together.”
As the director spoke, a little girl walked onto the stage. She had a round face, big eyes, and two pigtails hanging down her back—a truly adorable look.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Daxi.”
[I voted for Daxi! She was already a little online celebrity before, and she’s so cute!]
[But Daxi is only four years old. She’s so little to be away from her mother—will she be scared?]
[Yu Xin has never had a child—can she take care of someone this young?]
“I’m sure everyone is looking forward to this new family pairing. After all, Yu Xin is famous for her cooking skills and has been livestreaming her culinary talents for a while.”
Whether intentionally or not, the director cast a fleeting glance at Su Wan’ning as he spoke.
She had already gotten the news from Vincent.
Rumor had it that the production team had paid a hefty price to bring Yu Xin on board, and even handpicked a popular little child for her.
Good at streaming, an excellent cook, and a variety show darling—the team was clearly setting Yu Xin up as a contrast to Su Wan’ning.
But Su Wan’ning didn’t mind. She believed that everyone had their own unique qualities to shine.
“After last episode’s solo bonding time between mothers and children, I’m sure everyone’s relationship has deepened. Before we begin, we’ll have a little test. Each mom will receive a quiz sheet. You’ll have two minutes to answer, and the highest scorer will win today’s first prize.”
Under the scorching sun, the four contestants each received a quiz sheet as the director blew the whistle to start.
Su Wan’ning noticed the questions were all general knowledge about children’s development.
For example: What is your child’s best friend’s name? When making formula, do you add water or powder first?
Soon the two minutes were up, and the crew collected the sheets to grade.
“The results are surprising—the highest score goes to Yu Xin! I’m sure we’re all curious: how did you know the name of Daxi’s best friend?”
Yu Xin smiled gently at the camera. Her sweet looks naturally won over the audience.
“I was quite nervous before joining, so I did a little research on Daxi beforehand.”
