Chapter Fifty-One: The Child Is Lost
Such a reaction could never be cultivated in a day; the expressions of those nearby grew awkward when their gaze landed on Yangyang, and the comment section was in an uproar.
[My goodness, that movement is so precise—it’s exactly how my teacher trained us with a ruler back in first grade!]
[Is Yangyang under a lot of pressure? It looks like he’s about to cry.]
[Su Wanning is obviously here to stir things up. She just brought up such issues earlier today, and now she’s making this request. Isn’t she deliberately setting a trap for Yin Shanshan?]
“Incorrect movement, one point deducted,” Su Wanning announced calmly. As she spoke, her gaze slid past Yin Shanshan, and when their eyes met, both sensed a hint of tension simmering beneath the surface.
The game ended with Su Wanning and Yu Xin’s team as the victors, earning them the luxurious beach tent arranged by the production crew.
The other two families received simple tents, and tonight, all four families would camp together here.
It was still early, and viewers in the livestream were eagerly awaiting more, so the production team wouldn’t let the guests rest so easily. They came up with a new idea and called everyone together for a treasure hunt up the mountain.
“Please pay attention to the wooden box in my hand. We’ve placed many such boxes on the mountain behind us. Each family is to search for them, and whoever finds our mysterious grand prize will be the lucky winner!” The director held a wooden square box adorned with the show’s logo, easily recognizable.
But now, dusk was falling, and the island was remote; apart from the lighting by the river, the mountain was shrouded in darkness.
The director handed each person a flashlight and sent them up the mountain from four different directions.
Su Wanning carefully guarded the two children beside her.
“You two need to look closely—see if you can spot the treasure chest?”
[She’s letting the children do the task while she enjoys herself. Not bad!]
[Su Wanning knows how to delegate efficiently.]
[To put it bluntly, she knows how to slack off!]
Elsewhere, Mingming was refusing to cooperate with Feng Rui in the treasure hunt and instead dashed ahead alone.
Feng Rui called out a few times but soon gave up; she didn’t want to drag that burden along anyway.
The four families were scattered far apart. Yu Xin led Daxi along a winding mountain path, and suddenly, she spotted the corner of a box peeking out from behind a stone.
“Daxi, there’s a treasure chest over there!”
“Really?” Daxi lagged a few steps behind Yu Xin, and hearing this, she anxiously looked up, but the darkness made it impossible to see clearly.
Yu Xin had no intention of waiting.
“I’ll go check first!” With that, Yu Xin strode toward the stone and soon disappeared from sight.
Daxi, left behind, began to feel anxious. The wind rustled around her, and her voice quivered as she called out, “Auntie Yu Xin? Auntie Yu Xin!”
The only reply was the faint whisper of the wind.
Daxi’s mouth twisted, her eyes reddened, and tears began to fall.
The camera crew, fitter than the guests, followed Yu Xin and didn’t notice Daxi lagging behind.
Yu Xin, caught up in the thrill of the hunt, assumed Daxi was obediently following.
Daxi, sobbing as she searched for Yu Xin, had lost all sense of direction without an adult by her side; her path had already strayed.
Elsewhere, thanks to two capable little helpers, Su Wanning had already found three treasure chests.
Seeing that they were nearly at the summit, Su Wanning glanced around, relying on her experience gathering herbs here during the day, and guessed that the production team would hide the grand prize at the top.
“Let’s head over there!”
“Wait.” Behind her, Sui Sui suddenly stopped, frowning. Su Wanning turned, puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
“I think someone’s here—I heard something.”
[Don’t scare me, Sui Sui, where’s the person?]
[Sherlock Holmes, Sui.]
“Where?” Su Wanning hadn’t heard a sound and looked around, but apart from herself, the two children, and the crew, there was no one else.
“There really is, Mom. I heard it—it’s Daxi’s voice.”
Nian Nian agreed with his brother, his expression earnest, and Su Wanning couldn’t help but believe them.
“Daxi?”
“It’s definitely Daxi! She’s crying!”
[Daxi? Wasn’t she supposed to be with Yu Xin? How did she end up here?]
[Yu Xin’s child has been missing for some time—they’re searching now.]
Sui Sui and Nian Nian raised their voices, calling out, and Su Wanning chose to trust her children, letting them lead her. Sure enough, they soon spotted Daxi’s small figure crouched ahead.
“Daxi?”
Hearing someone behind her, Daxi stood up. Her little face was flushed, streaked with tears.
“Aunt Su, Sui Sui, Nian Nian.”
Daxi, her voice choked with sobs, recounted how she had gotten lost.
Su Wanning listened and said little, simply asking Daxi to join them.
“Let’s check the summit, then head back.”
As she spoke, Su Wanning gently wiped Daxi’s tears away. Daxi’s heart finally settled, and she clung tightly to Su Wanning’s hand.
Ten minutes later, Su Wanning led the three children to the summit and found the ultimate treasure—the prize was a luxury sleeping bag.
Su Wanning pursed her lips, utterly unimpressed.
“If I’d known the prize was just this, I wouldn’t have bothered climbing all the way up.”
On the way back, Su Wanning openly complained to the camera, drawing laughter from the livestream audience.
[Sister Su is still Sister Su—sharp-tongued and indifferent to whoever’s in charge!]
[Honestly, I wouldn’t bother climbing a mountain at midnight for just that.]
[The production team is confirmed to be brainless.]
Joking all the way, Su Wanning and her group returned to the campsite only to find a tense atmosphere.
The other three families had arrived already. Yin Shanshan and Feng Rui stood on either side of Yu Xin.
Seeing Daxi, Yu Xin broke into loud sobs. “Daxi, where did you go? Why didn’t you stay with me? I was almost scared to death.”
She pulled Daxi tightly into her arms.
[Yu Xin must’ve been so anxious when her child went missing, while Su Wanning was still leisurely hunting for treasure—what a calm heart.]
[Exactly. Why didn’t she return the child immediately?]
[Come on, it wasn’t her fault the child got lost. Is it wrong to do a good deed?]
