Chapter 132: The Male Bodyguard
For reasons unknown, the production team seemed exceptionally rushed today. Su Wanning never found the right moment to clarify the incident from that morning with Qin Jingchen. After a simple routine of tidying herself and the children, she headed out to gather in front of the recreational vehicles.
Wang Zan was in high spirits early in the morning, as if something wonderful was about to happen. Once all the guests had arrived, he made his announcement: "You have all lived at the RV campsite for some time now. The results of the poll for the activity you organized are in, and I am now ready to announce them—"
As he spoke, Wang Zan pulled out a data sheet.
"The winner, voted first place by our online audience, is—Su Wanning!"
As soon as he finished, applause broke out. Su Wanning smiled and offered her thanks, giving a very official expression of gratitude to all the staff members.
"I mentioned before that there would be a prize for first place, and Su Wanning’s reward is a first-class flight ticket!"
"Director, where are we going? When do we leave?" Yu Xin asked curiously from the side.
"As for that, you will all find out soon enough. We depart in half an hour."
"In such a rush?"
The other guests looked suspicious. Usually, if they were heading to a new destination, the director would have informed them well in advance. This was the first time they had been given such a last-minute notice upon waking up. Su Wanning felt a flicker of caution and glanced around; indeed, she noticed all the crew members hurriedly packing up their equipment. It seemed their next destination would be no simple trip.
"Alright. Aside from the first-place winner who receives a first-class air ticket, everyone else will be traveling to our next destination, Green Mountain Island, by green-skinned train!"
Wang Zan finally revealed their destination, leaving the others feeling both excited and frustrated.
"Green Mountain Island! That’s a famous tourist resort. Director, why are you being so generous this time? Has the show's budget increased?" Tian Boyu asked curiously, while Wang Zan cast a glance at Qin Jingchen.
"Isn't that thanks to the generosity of our sponsors? Alright, enough talk, everyone go pack your luggage. Oh, right—because Yu Xin and Tian Boyu hosted the previous activity alongside Su Wanning, they are also eligible to fly, though not in first class."
At Wang Zan’s command, the others rushed off to pack. With only about ten minutes left, they moved quickly. Fortunately, Su Wanning preferred traveling light; between her own bags and those for the two children, she only had three suitcases, and she finished organizing them in no time.
Everyone traveled to the airport in the show's vehicles. It wasn't until they reached the departure lounge that Su Wanning looked at Qin Jingchen beside her and asked curiously, "The director didn't mention it earlier—how are you getting to the island?"
"I’m paying my own way to fly first class with you."
"..."
Money really can make the devil turn the mill; that old saying was certainly true.
Soon, it was time to board. Su Wanning carried no luggage, with Qin Jingchen following behind her, naturally taking charge of the two children. Su Wanning felt a bit unaccustomed to it. She turned to look back and saw Qin Jingchen in his signature black suit. It was his preferred attire, yet standing in the bustling airport, he looked somewhat out of place, especially with two children in tow.
"Why do you always like to walk behind me?" Su Wanning asked, feeling strange.
"That way, I can see you at all times and protect you more easily."
Qin Jingchen’s answer was also unexpected. She couldn't help but laugh and teased, "Is your hobby being a bodyguard? What is there to protect me from? It’s not as if someone is going to suddenly jump out and attack me."
Qin Jingchen didn't offer an explanation but instead curled his lips into a faint smile right before her eyes: "If it means being your bodyguard, I would gladly do it."
"..."
Su Wanning said nothing and silently turned her head away. At that moment, the cameraman nearby wore a knowing smile, and the audience in the livestream chat erupted in excitement.
[Did I hear that right? Is President Qin confessing to her face?]
[I never expected the married life of a middle-aged couple to be this sweet. I’m so envious!]
[There’s something unexpectedly cute about President Qin saying sweet nothings with such a serious expression!]
Standing before a screen, Qin Jingchen’s assistant watched this scene and leaned back against the sofa with a satisfied smile. Early that morning, during their meeting, the assistant had suggested that Qin Jingchen should speak more kindly to Su Wanning and express his love for her openly at every opportunity, especially in front of others; the larger the audience, the more it would satisfy a woman's vanity.
Judging by the current results, it was working well.
Even so, Su Wanning didn't take the initiative to speak another word to Qin Jingchen until they boarded the plane.
On the other side, the rest of the group was packed off by the production team to the train station. These glamorous celebrities hadn't stepped foot in such a place in years. The station was filled with people, mostly migrant workers carrying large burlap sacks, some of whom were munching on steamed buns or holding bowls of instant noodles.
As soon as Yin Shanshan entered, she wrinkled her nose in disgust.
"Is the show playing a prank on us, deliberately bringing us to a place like this? Does anyone even use this kind of transport anymore in this day and age?"
The cameraman was right there, and Fang Wei kindly reminded her, "Shanshan, trains have always been a primary mode of transportation in our country. Many migrant workers can't afford to fly. Look, there are still a lot of people here."
Unexpectedly, upon hearing this, Yin Shanshan assumed Fang Wei was mocking her.
"Right. And what’s the difference between us and those migrant workers right now?"
After saying this, Yin Shanshan chuckled. Although it sounded like a joke, it still sparked dissatisfaction among some viewers in the livestream.
[What is Yin Shanshan implying? Is she looking down on migrant workers?]
[My father still works as a migrant worker to support our family, and I don't see anything wrong with that.]
[She's just joking, can't you tell?]
[Jokes still need to have limits.]
Fang Wei shut her mouth and said nothing more, leading Yin Shanshan through the ticket check and waiting for the train. These procedures were entirely foreign to Yin Shanshan, so Fang Wei not only had to look after her but also worry about keeping an eye on Yangyang and her own son in the crowded station.
Once they finally boarded the train, they found themselves sitting across from two complete strangers—migrant workers whose large burlap sacks occupied all the space. One of them had even taken off his shoes, revealing socks with holes in the toes and emitting a pungent odor.
Yin Shanshan frowned. Before the train started moving, she said in a soft but pointed voice: "Excuse me, sir, could you put your shoes back on? This is a public place, after all. Isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
"Public place? Hey, what’s wrong with you? Look around, who here even cares about that?"
