Chapter 78 You Don't Mind, Do You?
An array of princess dresses and Lolita outfits filled the entire carriage.
As she looked at the pastel colors and girlish styles of the dresses, Gu Ci couldn’t help but feel a twinge in her teeth.
And yet…
“Ah Ci, this is my gift for you when we meet. Look, do you like them?” Gu Jin Yan asked, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
His agent had told him that girls love jewelry and clothes, and that gifting these would never go wrong.
But Gu Jin Yan believed he should be more precise.
So, over the past two days, he visited all sorts of women’s fashion brands, large and small, and finally settled on princess dresses and Lolita outfits at first glance!
Whenever Gu Jin Yan thought of Gu Ci’s doll-like, exquisite face—like something from a shop window—he felt that princess dresses and Lolita styles were tailor-made for his sister.
Faced with Gu Jin Yan's eager, expectant eyes, Gu Ci finally surrendered, replying with some difficulty, “I like them.”
Gu Jin Yan let out a triumphant laugh and shot Gu Ci a flirtatious look, “See, your third brother treats you best, doesn’t he?”
At that, Gu Ci looked at him with a complicated gaze and then silently nodded.
Gu Jin Yan was quite pleased now.
Indeed, he understood his sister better than his agent did.
With a wave of his hand, he instructed the attendants in the carriage to carry the dresses into the house.
Gu Ci’s temples throbbed fiercely, and she said with utmost sincerity, “Third brother, your thoughtfulness is already received, but perhaps we shouldn’t keep them? I doubt there’s enough room at home.”
Gu Jin Yan waved dismissively, “It’s fine, Ah Ci. There’s a storage room at home—just convert it into your wardrobe.”
Gu Ci was speechless.
Watching the extremely girlish princess dresses and Lolita outfits being carried upstairs, Gu Ci experienced, for the first time, what it meant to feel utterly hopeless.
Just then, a delighted female voice sounded behind them. “Jin Yan brother, when did you come back? Why didn’t you tell me?”
Gu Jin Yan turned his head, and upon seeing the speaker was Zhao Wen Yu, his smile faded. “I’m just at home—nothing worth mentioning.”
Despite Zhao Wen Yu’s habit of addressing him as “brother” with endearments, Gu Jin Yan never forgot what happened when she was five—playing at their house, breaking a vase, and secretly tattling to his father, blaming him.
Perhaps Zhao Wen Yu still didn’t know that he had seen everything that day, though he never spoke of it.
But ever since then, Gu Jin Yan no longer enjoyed playing with Zhao Wen Yu.
Zhao Wen Yu failed to notice the distance in Gu Jin Yan’s tone; her eyes had been glued to the carriage full of dresses since the moment she arrived, unwilling to look away.
She looked enviously at the dresses, her voice full of admiration and longing. “Jin Yan brother, these dresses are so beautiful. Could I try one on?”

Zhao Wen Yu’s family lived in the building opposite the Gu family.
In fact, the reason she appeared here was because she happened to see Gu Jin Yan and the carriage full of dresses from her upstairs window.
This wasn’t the first time Zhao Wen Yu had done such a thing; whenever she saw something she liked at the Gu house, she would simply express her desire to try it, and the Gu family would hand it over without hesitation.
Especially with Su Wan’s jewelry—every time Zhao Wen Yu visited, she would make a point to play in Su Wan’s room.
Zhao Wen Yu assumed this time would be no exception. After speaking, she took a dress from one of the attendants and held it against herself. “Jin Yan brother, doesn’t this look lovely on me? Why don’t you give it to me?”
After doing so, she deliberately cast a provocative glance at Gu Ci.
She had heard everything just now—the dresses were all gifts from Gu Jin Yan to Gu Ci.
But Gu Ci wasn’t worthy of such dresses; it would be better if they all belonged to her!
Zhao Wen Yu’s jealousy was raging inside her, and she was determined to wear these dresses and rub Gu Ci’s face in it.
However, what she hadn’t expected was…
“No,” Gu Jin Yan refused Zhao Wen Yu’s request without hesitation.
Zhao Wen Yu’s smile and provocation froze on her face.
She stared at Gu Jin Yan in disbelief. “Jin… Jin Yan brother, what did you just say?”
No?
Gu Jin Yan told her no?
How could that be?!
But soon, Gu Jin Yan repeated solemnly, “I said no! These are gifts for Ah Ci. Why are you trying them on? They’re not suitable!”
With that, he snatched the Lolita dress from her hand and instructed the attendant to carry it upstairs.
Zhao Wen Yu’s face stiffened, her chest heaving in anger.
In front of everyone, Zhao Wen Yu felt her face had been ground into the floor and rubbed hard.
She gritted her teeth inwardly.
She had always treated Gu Jin Yan well, but he never reciprocated—always cold and indifferent!
She had thought Gu Jin Yan simply wasn’t interested in girls, but he treated Gu Ci so well!
Pretending not to understand Gu Jin Yan’s words, she grabbed another dress from an attendant. “Jin Yan brother, maybe that one wasn’t suitable for me. What about this one?”
She turned to Gu Ci. “Sister Gu Ci, you have so many dresses. Surely you wouldn’t mind if I tried a few, would you?”

If Gu Ci refused her, she would be accused of being petty and narrow-minded!
But if Gu Ci gave her the dresses, Jin Yan brother would see that Gu Ci didn’t truly cherish his gifts!
However…
Gu Ci glanced at her. “I mind.”
Although she didn’t actually like these styles, they were gifts from Gu Jin Yan and not to be touched by anyone else.
Zhao Wen Yu smiled. “See, Jin Yan brother, even Gu Ci herself said no… wait, what?”
Mid-sentence, she realized what Gu Ci had said and was stunned, her face incredulous. “What did you say? You said you mind?”
Gu Ci nodded. “Yes.”
Zhao Wen Yu nearly ground her teeth to dust. “Why? You have so many—why can’t you share a little? Why are you so stingy?”
Gu Ci replied calmly, “Because I am stingy.”
Gu Jin Yan couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
Even the attendants beside them had to suppress their laughter.
For some reason, they found the aloof girl’s calm declaration quite endearing.
They were already imagining how adorable Gu Ci would look in a Lolita dress!
Zhao Wen Yu couldn’t comprehend how anyone could so boldly admit to being stingy.
Didn’t she feel embarrassed to say that in front of so many attendants?
Furious, she snapped, “Gu Ci, how can you be so shameless?”
Gu Jin Yan immediately grew annoyed. He pulled Gu Ci behind him and said impatiently, “Zhao Wen Yu, don’t you understand what people say? I’ve already told you these are gifts for my sister. Why are you so insistent? Who’s really shameless here?”
He glanced at the dress in his hand, threw it to the floor in disgust, and said to Gu Ci, “Ah Ci, let’s not keep this one. Let’s go!”
Leaving Zhao Wen Yu alone, watched with strange looks by the attendants.
Her face turned pale, then flushed, and soon she ran away in tears.
