Shi Xuetong also realized that she had overreacted. Her heart pounded wildly, and she hurried to cover up her agitation. “No, Shuyue, I’m just indignant for your sake! Gu Ci is truly shameless, doing something like that.”

Huo Shuyue grew even more confused. “Gu Ci was out of line, but why are you indignant for me?”

Besides, if anyone should be upset, it ought to be for Xiao Yang, not for her. And what did she mean by “something like that”?

Huo Shuyue felt instinctively that something was off, but couldn’t put her finger on exactly what.

Soon enough, Shi Xuetong’s next words provided the answer.

Shi Xuetong, anxious and indignant, said, “Shuyue! Gu Ci is openly seducing Xiao Yang, and even did that with him, yet you act as if nothing’s happened!”

Shouldn’t Huo Shuyue have marched over and slapped Gu Ci the moment this happened? Why had she done nothing? Did she even truly like Xiao Yang?

Shi Xuetong wished Huo Shuyue would go right then and land several resounding slaps on Gu Ci, to vent the anger burning in her chest.

Huo Shuyue could only feel exasperated, and glancing around at her classmates, saw that they all wore gossiping expressions.

Her face darkened instantly. She quickly tried to dispel the disharmonious images forming in everyone’s minds.

Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, everyone couldn’t help but ask about Xiao Yang and the others, and agreed to visit him together after school.

Only Yan Moryu narrowed her eyes at Shi Xuetong thoughtfully.

When school was over, Gu Ci originally intended to go with her classmates to see Xiao Yang and the others. But just then, she received a phone call. “Hmm? Baby.”

“How could I not? I miss you.”

“You’ve arrived? All right, I’ll be there right away.”

Wen Zixin and the rest watched as Gu Ci’s entire demeanor softened during the call, her tone—usually cool—tinged with helplessness and indulgence, leaving them feeling as if they’d seen a ghost.

But before they could listen further, Gu Ci hung up.

When she turned to face them, her expression had already reverted to its usual indifference.

She took out the pills she’d made from her bag and handed them to Wen Zixin. “Something’s come up, so I won’t be able to go today. Please take these to Xiao Yang for me—three times a day, two pills each time. Make sure he remembers.”

Originally, she’d only planned to bring Xiao Yang his medicine today; the acupuncture was scheduled every other day, so missing this visit wasn’t a big deal.

Wen Zixin nodded eagerly, like a pecking chick.

Then, they all watched Gu Ci leave. Unlike her usual leisurely pace, she now walked with visible urgency.

Wen Zixin took a deep breath, clutched her heart, and exclaimed dramatically, “Oh! My dear, have you forgotten me already?”

Lu Youming, with his baby-faced features, immediately slipped into the role, replying in a deep, affectionate tone, “How could I, baby? Of course I miss you.”

Wen Zixin’s face flushed on cue, blinking shyly, “Then when will you come to see me?”

Lu Youming continued, “All right, baby, I’ll be there right away.”

“My goodness, I never knew Sister Ci could be so dominant. I wish I could be her baby!” Wen Zixin swooned, cupping her now crimson cheeks.

The whole class burst into laughter, even Huo Shuyue couldn’t help the twitch at the corner of her lips.

But once she remembered Gu Ci was her “rival in love,” she rolled her eyes again.

At the hospital, Wen Zixin faithfully carried out Gu Ci’s instructions, handing Xiao Yang the small bottle of medicine and solemnly repeating the dosage.

Xiao Yang placed the bottle on his desk, mentally noting Gu Ci’s instructions.

For some reason, after yesterday’s acupuncture from Gu Ci, he subconsciously no longer resisted the idea of her treating him. In fact, ever since the treatment, his leg had started to itch and tingle—not pain, but more like the sensation of a wound healing.

Seeing Xiao Yang treat the medicine from Gu Ci like a treasure, Huo Shuyue couldn’t help but purse her lips. “Xiao Yang, Dr. Gu will be here to see you soon, so why listen to Gu Ci? I think you shouldn’t take this at all. Who knows what these unregulated pills are—what if something goes wrong?”

Xiao Yang shook his head, resolute. “That won’t happen.”

Though Gu Ci’s medical skills had seemed questionable before, he knew she would never take risks with his health. No matter how much they’d argued in the past, she always knew where to draw the line.

That’s why he hadn’t outright refused her acupuncture.

Huo Shuyue was so exasperated she wanted to crack open his head to see what was inside.

But in the end, she said no more. Dr. Gu would be here tomorrow, and then Xiao Yang would naturally see which doctor’s medicine he ought to take.

Meanwhile, when nobody was watching, Shi Xuetong quietly approached Xiao Yang’s desk and swapped Gu Ci’s pills for vitamin C tablets.

Once they left the hospital, everyone went their separate ways. Shi Xuetong breathed a sigh of relief, then, without hesitation, tossed the pills she’d been clutching into the trash.

Who knew what was in Gu Ci’s homemade medicine? She was only looking out for Xiao Yang’s wellbeing—she wouldn’t let Gu Ci’s pills harm him.

Dusting off her hands with disdain, she walked away without a backward glance.

Elsewhere, after hurrying off, Gu Ci made her way to Yushui Huating.

By the entrance, a man dressed in black, his face half-hidden behind a mask and sunglasses, a baseball cap pulled low over his head, was lurking suspiciously by the roadside.

Even more dubious, a black van was parked behind him.

With such an appearance, it was hard to associate him with anything good.

When Gu Ci saw him upon arrival, the corner of her mouth twitched—and she could clearly sense that the residential security staff were already watching him closely.

Her brow throbbed. She walked over and patted him on the shoulder.

The man jumped, startled, but when he saw Gu Ci, he relaxed. Still, he glanced around furtively several more times, and, reassured that no one was around, finally breathed easy. “Sister Ci, you’re finally here. Why on earth do you live here!”

Gu Ci merely replied, “What’s so strange about that? The real question is, why are you dressed like this, Lu Qinghuan?”

The man pulled off his mask, revealing a young but unshaven, haggardly handsome face.

He was Lu Qinghuan, Gu Ci’s colleague at the research institute.

Since Gu Ci was the only one at the institute close to his age—and so knowledgeable—he usually stuck to her side, treating her as his leader.

But while Gu Ci dared to skip work, he did not. Not only did he have to endure the director’s stormy moods at the institute alone, now Gu Ci had also talked him into sneaking out to deliver something for her!

Heaven knew how nerve-wracking the journey had been!
