Chapter 34 So You're Removing the Cast?
Gu Ci thought for a moment, and a colorful face appeared in her mind. “Yes, I know her. We’re in the same class.”
Qin Yu was surprised. He knew that Gu Ci and Huo Shuyue attended the same school, but it had never occurred to him that they might be in the same class. “You’re in Class Twelve? Did they bully you?”
After all, from what he’d gathered these past few days, Gu Ci seemed like a well-behaved girl with a cold exterior, while Class Twelve… was a bunch of troublemakers even he didn’t want to face.
But if Gu Ci was in Class Twelve, did that mean her grades were poor?
Thinking of her quirky classmates, Gu Ci’s lips curved slightly, her mood light. “No, they’re all nice people, very friendly.”
She frowned. “They’re just too easygoing. It makes them easy targets for bullies.”
Qin Yu wondered if his ears were playing tricks on him.
Just the thought of Huo Shuyue made Qin Yu feel that the word “friendly” had nothing to do with anyone in Class Twelve—let alone those few others…
He couldn’t help but worry and moved beside Gu Ci, patting her shoulder with concern. “Gu Ci, if you’re being threatened, blink twice!”
Gu Ci couldn’t help but laugh.
As Qin Yu was about to say something else, he suddenly sensed a dangerous aura.
Instinctively, he looked toward Rong Ye—and sure enough, the man wore a faint smile, his chilly gaze fixed on him.
Qin Yu felt uneasy. He didn’t know what he’d done to provoke Rong Ye this time, but suddenly, intuition struck, and he quickly withdrew his hand from Gu Ci’s shoulder.
Rong Ye, satisfied, looked away, subtly edging Qin Yu aside. He addressed Gu Ci, “Shuyue is my niece. If you need anything, just ask her for help.”
He had come to Song City for that book, but also to check in on his niece.
“What’s wrong with her?” Considering Huo Shuyue’s hostility toward her, it was enough that she didn’t cause trouble—helping was out of the question. Gu Ci wasn’t asking for herself, but for Xiao Yang.
From Qin Yu’s tone, it seemed Huo Shuyue hadn’t come to school not because she didn’t want to, but because she had been hospitalized?
So Xiao Yang… Was he absent for the same reason?
Gu Ci narrowed her eyes, unconsciously pondering this.
Qin Yu pursed his lips. “Exactly. That girl and her friends are still lying in the hospital! When asked who did it, she clams up and refuses to say a word.”
“Oh, right, that boy from the Xiao family is there too. What’s his name? Xiao Ri? Xiao… Xiao…”
“Xiao Yang,” Gu Ci supplied.
“Yes, Xiao Yang!” With Gu Ci’s reminder, Qin Yu slapped his forehead, remembering at last. Then he asked curiously, “Gu Ci, how did you…” know?
But before he could finish, Gu Ci stopped walking. Her expression was calm but carried an inexplicable pressure. “Which hospital?”
“S-Saint Heart Hospital…” Qin Yu stammered, uncertain why he felt intimidated by a seventeen-year-old girl.
Gu Ci pivoted to face him. “You’re going to Saint Heart Hospital, right? Could you give me a ride?”
Qin Yu was stunned, then nodded woodenly. “Uh… Sure.”
Was Gu Ci and Huo Shuyue so close?
With that thought, Qin Yu followed Gu Ci out, still dazed.
Suddenly, his shoulder felt heavy—a lazy arm draped over it.
A man’s languid voice sounded by his ear, “Let’s go. I’ll visit my niece with you.”
Qin Yu: “…”
Saint Heart Hospital
After reaching the floor where Huo Shuyue’s room was located, Gu Ci asked a nurse for Xiao Yang’s room number. She bid farewell to Rong Ye and Qin Yu, then walked toward Xiao Yang’s room.
Only then did Qin Yu realize Gu Ci wasn’t visiting Huo Shuyue, but the boy from the Xiao family.
He watched Gu Ci’s retreating figure and murmured to Rong Ye, “Brother Ye, Gu Ci isn’t here for Shuyue after all! No wonder—she knew the Xiao boy’s name and only decided to come after hearing about him.”
He waggled his eyebrows suggestively. “Hey, Brother Ye, what do you think is going on between Gu Ci and the Xiao kid? Could it be she likes him? Otherwise, why would she rush to the hospital as soon as she heard something happened to him?”
Carefree as he was, Qin Yu failed to notice the suddenly dangerous aura beside him, continuing to tempt fate. “Hey, Brother Ye, why aren’t you saying anything?”
He turned and met Rong Ye’s ambiguous smile.
Instantly, his scalp tingled.
Rong Ye’s critical gaze landed on Qin Yu’s head. “No wonder DT lost eight hundred fifty million as soon as it landed in your hands. With your brain and your eyes, you might as well not have either.”
With a cold laugh and an icy air about him, Rong Ye strode into Huo Shuyue’s room.
“Brother Ye… That’s too much—personal attacks and insults…” Qin Yu was nearly in tears.
DT was the first business he took over, but wasn’t that because some relatives sabotaged it? The mess was set up before he even got involved—how could he have prevented it?
Rong Ye had never mocked him about this before—why was he so explosive today…
Inside the ward, Huo Shuyue was also subjected to her uncle’s oppressive presence.
Usually fearless, she was only afraid of her uncle. Now, with his mood visibly sour, she shrank like a quail, obediently greeting him in a small voice, “Uncle, you came to see me?”
Rong Ye’s narrow, phoenix eyes flicked her way, lips curling in a cold smile. “If I weren’t here to see you, would I be visiting ghosts? Or your classmates, who look as battered as ghosts?”
Suddenly confronted, Huo Shuyue was bewildered, but dared not utter a word.
Rong Ye exhaled, finally remembering she was his niece, his expression softening slightly. “How’s your health?”
Meanwhile, chaos reigned in Xiao Yang’s hospital room.
One of his legs was wrapped in a thick cast, propped up high; the other was restless, itching to touch the floor.
Arms crossed, his face impatient, Xiao Yang barked at the timid nurse nearby, “I want to be discharged—hurry up and take this cast off!”
The nurse pleaded, explaining that he couldn’t leave yet and needed more rest.
But Xiao Yang ignored her, bracing one hand on the sheets and trying to lower his elevated leg with the other.
The nurse rushed forward to stop him, but Xiao Yang brushed her aside.
He snorted, his expression utterly arrogant. “I’m taking this cast off today and leaving—what are you going to do about it?”
“If you won’t help me, I’ll get someone else!” With that, Xiao Yang whipped out his phone to call for assistance.
At that moment, a cold, chilling voice sounded from the doorway. “You want your cast off? Would you like my help?”
