Chapter 122: The First Crate, Shared and Finished

Once everyone had finished grading the numbered papers, Gu Ci collected all of them.
Then she pulled a box out from beneath her desk.
When the box landed on Gu Ci’s desk, it struck with a tremendous bang.
Wen Zixin, sitting beside her, felt her temple twitch instinctively.
That morning, when she had seen Gu Ci arrive, she had watched her carry the box as effortlessly as if it were empty.
But as the Sherlock Holmes of the class, Wen Zixin knew all too well that, considering Gu Ci’s formidable strength, the contents might not be light at all...
Now, the heavy thud seemed to confirm her suspicion in one respect.
Yet Wen Zixin could not bring herself to feel pleased about it.
For some reason, she had a distinctly ominous feeling...
The very next second, her foreboding came true.
Gu Ci took a workbook from the box and handed it to her. “Yours.”
Looking at the thick workbook, Wen Zixin felt like crying.
Perhaps she now understood why she was the first person to receive one...
Her test paper was right on top of the pile.
Xiao Yang snatched the workbook from Wen Zixin’s hands out of curiosity and flipped it open.
He immediately felt as though his head were about to explode.
The next moment, misfortune descended upon him as well.
Gu Ci suddenly handed him a set of study materials...
The hand holding Wen Zixin’s workbook instantly turned to stone.
Then Gu Ci began calling out names according to the numbers on the papers, distributing the materials one by one.
Everyone soon discovered that the workbooks they received were not all the same.
If there was one thing they had in common, it was that every workbook bore the watermark “Crown Encryption.”
These were graded mathematics exercises for the first year of senior high school that Gu Ci had prepared at home the day before.
The advantage of such exercises was that they could quickly reveal how well a student had mastered the relevant material. Gu Ci could then use the results to provide each of them with study materials tailored to their individual needs.

Some students needed to make up for gaps in their foundations, while others needed to work through a large number of exercises in order to identify the patterns behind solving them.
In fact, Class Twelve was an interesting case. They were weak in Chinese mainly because there were too many characters to write, and they were always too lazy to bother. Their shortcomings were concentrated chiefly in areas such as memorizing ancient poems and prose.
As for English, they thought it was too easy and could not be bothered with it. In reality, nearly every student in Class Twelve was capable of conversing directly with foreigners.
Mathematics was the only subject they genuinely could not handle.
That was why Gu Ci had begun with mathematics.
Looking at the now-empty box, Gu Ci exhaled in relief, her mood improving slightly.
The first box of books—phew... all handed out.
Seeing the hopeless expressions on everyone’s faces, Gu Ci pondered for a moment before saying, “I’m not asking you to do everything. For now, you only need to study the first five chapters.”
Everyone’s eyes lit up.
At that moment, Wen Zixin asked timidly, “Sister Ci... what does ‘for now’ mean?”
Gu Ci’s expression turned cold at once. “It means that after some time, you’ll have to do the rest as well.”
Wen Zixin immediately regretted asking, and the entire class erupted in another chorus of wails.
That was only how they appeared on the surface, however. In truth, not one of them complained about Gu Ci making them do the exercises. At that moment, everyone’s enthusiasm for studying was higher than ever.
This was a battle for Class Twelve—and a battle for themselves.
In the blink of an eye, the classroom was filled with nothing but the rapid scratching of pens.
Gu Ci crushed a pill between her fingers, and a faint medicinal fragrance, nearly impossible to detect, drifted through the classroom.
She rested her head on one hand and narrowed her eyes slightly, becoming the most idle person in the entire class.
When Jin Jiejiao entered to teach, she could not help but quiet her footsteps.
Seeing everyone bent over their papers, writing furiously, Jin Jiejiao was genuinely astonished.
She had a feeling that her students had truly begun to work hard.
By the second half of their final year of senior high school, lessons naturally consisted mostly of revision and examinations.
Jin Jiejiao knew that if she lectured, the students might not necessarily understand. But the exercises they were working on now were not only representative; they were also within the students’ current ability to grasp.
After observing several students successfully solve some of the problems, Jin Jiejiao simply changed the lesson into a self-study period. She let them work on the papers below and told them to come up and ask her whenever they encountered something they did not understand.
At first, some students were too embarrassed to approach her. But once the first student took the lead, the others quickly cast aside their hesitation and began coming up one after another to ask questions.

Jin Jiejiao was almost too busy to cope when she suddenly spotted Gu Ci, who was sitting idly among the others.
Her eyes lit up at once. “Come, come. Those of you waiting in line at the back, don’t bother lining up anymore. Go back to your seats and continue with the later questions. Come one at a time—it’ll save more time that way.”
“Also, you can ask Gu Ci for help. She’s truly remarkable. Sometimes her way of thinking is even clearer than the teacher’s!”
Jin Jiejiao’s voice was filled with sincere admiration.
That was the profound impression she had gained while grading Gu Ci’s homework. Sometimes, reviewing Gu Ci’s work allowed her to gain new insights as well, and she would even discover entirely new approaches to a problem.
Hearing this, before anyone else could react, Xiao Yang was the first to thrust his workbook in front of Gu Ci.
“Sister Ci, I don’t know how to do the second part of this question!”
The students in the class had grown accustomed to asking Jin Jiejiao questions, but Xiao Yang, as the school’s resident tough guy, could never bring himself to lower his pride enough to do so.
Asking Gu Ci, however, was an entirely different matter. He felt no psychological burden whatsoever!
Gu Ci had no idea what was going through Xiao Yang’s mind. She glanced at the problem, then drew an auxiliary line on the diagram.
The instant the line appeared, Xiao Yang felt as though a solution were just within his grasp. A flash of inspiration struck him, and he immediately stopped Gu Ci from speaking.
“Don’t tell me yet, Sister Ci. I think I know how to do it. Let me think!”
Gu Ci responded with a lazy hum.
Xiao Yang bent over his desk and thought for a moment before beginning to write rapidly.
Seeing the inspiration on his face, several other students could not resist coming over one after another to ask Gu Ci questions.
Each time, Gu Ci either drew a few auxiliary lines or wrote down several steps, and everyone immediately felt as though a fog had lifted from their minds.
They soon discovered that, through the few simple steps Gu Ci provided—steps they could all understand—the problems that had initially appeared impossibly complicated suddenly became easy.
It was practically miraculous!
Just then, Gu Ci’s phone vibrated.
She tapped it open and saw a message in the newly registered QQ account.
The message had come from QQ Mail.
It read—
