VIP Volume Chapter 094: The Three Elements
Ye Xiaoxuan had to admit that Jiaran made sense. If he only stuck to his current understanding, even if his Bad Boys’ Alliance grew bigger one day, he wouldn’t be a true kingpin—at best, just a major troublemaker!
But what exactly was a real kingpin? Even Ye Xiaoxuan couldn’t give a clear definition.
Jiaran turned to him and said, “I’ve done a lot of research, asked many people online at school, and I’ve summed up three essentials. I think these best fit the idea in your mind, the so-called super kingpin you talk about. Want to hear them?”
Ye Xiaoxuan was already impatient, grabbing her hand and urging, “Hurry, tell me! I’m listening!”
Jiaran smiled slightly, pulled her hand free, and counted on her fingers, “First, a true kingpin doesn’t do evil!”
Seeing Ye Xiaoxuan fall silent, Jiaran explained, “Maybe petty theft isn’t real evil, but have you thought about it? Scattered, these acts are minor, but if, because of your influence, they come together and you indulge them as their leader, what happens when there are dozens of them? Hundreds? Thousands?”
Ye Xiaoxuan felt a chill run through him, realizing the gravity of the situation. If the alliance grew and he let things go on as they were, even if the police didn’t intervene, ordinary people would soon have no tolerance left for them!
Jiaran continued, “Second, a real kingpin never bullies the good! Not doing evil is about actions; not bullying the good is about people. For various reasons, kingpins might not do things the legal way, but even if they take shortcuts, they never make things hard for honest folk!”
Ye Xiaoxuan nodded in agreement, “Right! Keep going!”
Jiaran raised her third finger, “And the third, most important rule: a true kingpin never turns to organized crime. That’s the greatest difference between a kingpin and a gangster!
Kingpins are full of fire and passion, value loyalty and friendship, unlike the underworld, which will do anything for money, selling out their morals and conscience!”
“Exactly!” Ye Xiaoxuan sat up, excitedly pounding his right fist into his left palm. “That’s the most crucial point, and the one my brothers must remember. I’ll tell them all tomorrow!”
Jiaran nodded, placing her small hand over his and said, “Xiao San, if you want to be a kingpin, I support you! But never a lowlife, never a bandit, and certainly not a crime boss! That’s why I’ve drawn up rules for the alliance—not just to restrain you, but to guide your brothers as well.”
Ye Xiaoxuan mulled over her words, nodding repeatedly. It was easy enough to keep himself in check; with someone by his side to remind him, he could tell right from wrong. But leading an organization required clear, strict rules, with rewards and punishments set out plainly. Only then could there be fairness and real authority!
He had never thought much about these matters, but Jiaran had already considered them for him. Grateful, Ye Xiaoxuan clasped her small hand in his. “Thank you, Jiaran.”
She gave a bright smile, rolling her eyes at him in mock annoyance. “We’re family—no need for thanks! If you succeed, I’ll be happy for you, too!”
Ye Xiaoxuan put on a stern face, pouting. “Don’t call yourself my older sister—I hate it when you say that!”
Of course Jiaran knew why he hated it. Her cheeks flushed instantly and she tried to pull her hand away, but Ye Xiaoxuan held on tightly. In a voice barely above a whisper, she said, “But I am your cousin…”
A wave of frustration washed over Ye Xiaoxuan. Every time he thought of that connection, his happiness faded. Almost sulking, he pulled Jiaran closer and hugged her tightly. “So what?”
Whenever this guy hugged her, Jiaran felt an uncontrollable dizziness. She wanted to indulge and become a gentle woman in his arms, to lean against him and do nothing more. But reason shouted at her that she couldn’t. She was a teacher, after all—how could she do something so against social norms?
So every time Ye Xiaoxuan got close, it was a kind of torment for her. His scent was only growing stronger, making it harder for any woman to resist. She couldn’t bear to be too close, but couldn’t bring herself to push him away, and there just wasn’t enough room on the turtle’s back for her to escape anyway!
Taking advantage of his position, Ye Xiaoxuan held her tightly, breathing against her ear and inhaling her delicate fragrance. Excitedly, he whispered, “Jiaran, it won’t be long before I take you away!”
“Take me away?” Jiaran was stunned for a moment, her ears tickled by his heavy breathing. She shrank her neck, not daring to turn around, and asked in a trembling voice, “Where to?”
Ye Xiaoxuan brushed her earlobe with his nose, “Somewhere no one knows us! Then nobody will know about our relationship!”
Jiaran bit her lip. “What nonsense! You’re just fooling yourself. Others might not know, but we still do!”
Ye Xiaoxuan grew anxious. “I don’t care! As long as people don’t point fingers at you, I don’t care about anything else! Jiaran, I… I can’t lie to myself. Ever since I was a kid, I never admitted we were related by blood!”
Jiaran let out a sigh. “You can refuse to admit it, but you can’t ignore it, right? Besides, if you take me away, what about Yuer?”
Ye Xiaoxuan narrowed his eyes. “I won’t give up on Yuer either. I want both of you—I won’t leave anyone behind!”
Jiaran pinched his arm. “You rascal! So fickle! Who would be foolish enough to follow a man like you?”
Ye Xiaoxuan chuckled, pulling her into his arms. “I am a bad boy, and the leader of the bad boys! I’m not fickle, I’m just full of love. You’re both precious to me. I can’t let either of you go, and if you don’t agree, I’ll pester you every day! I’m a kingpin, what do I have to fear?”
“You scoundrel!” Jiaran was forced to face Ye Xiaoxuan as he hugged her, crossing her arms over her chest, trying to push away the rogue intent on taking advantage.
But as his fiery eyes drew closer, her breathing quickened and her limbs weakened—Ye Xiaoxuan’s lips were already pressing against hers!
Jiaran’s whole body stiffened. The strength drained from her arms, and her mind turned hazy as if she were oxygen-starved every time he kissed her.
Below them, Little Green squirmed in annoyance, as though protesting their utter disregard for his feelings.
Ye Xiaoxuan slapped the turtle’s back and scolded, “Behave yourself, or I won’t take care of your girlfriend anymore!”
