VIP Volume, Chapter 127: You Must Believe Me
They were easy to find, right by the lake. But instead of skipping stones, Ye Dajun and another person each held a long net pole, scooping something from the water’s edge.
Ye Xiaoxuan walked over and asked, “Are you two fishing here? By the way, your younger sister’s phone is missing. Have you seen it?”
Ye Dajun wore a mournful expression and said, “Seen it!” Ye Xiaoxuan’s face lit up instantly. “Where did you see it?” he asked eagerly.
Ye Dajun glanced sideways at Guan Ling, then lowered his head and replied, “Isn’t it here, fishing…”
Everyone broke out in a cold sweat.
Guan Ling’s eyes nearly popped out, pointing at Silly Girl with a face drained of color in anger. “You… you little thief! It really was you who took it! Do you even know what’s in that phone? I’m going to…”
Silly Girl, frightened, quickly hid behind Ye Dajun, her little masked head burrowing into his clothes, mumbling and crying out, “Don’t hit me! Don’t hit me! Ya-ya was wrong! Ya-ya was wrong!”
Ye Dajun spread his arms to shield her and said to Guan Ling, “Sis! I’ll accompany you for one phone!” Seeing Silly Girl so scared, Guan Ling softened a bit, stomping her foot with teary eyes, “Big brother! The phone isn’t worth much, but what’s inside is important!”
Ye Dajun gritted his teeth, pulled Silly Girl out, pushed her into Jiaran’s arms, and said, “Ya-ya, go find Jiaran. I’m going after the phone!” With that, he turned and with a splash, dove into the lake!
Everyone was stunned and rushed to the shore, shouting, “Big brother!” Silly Girl clapped her hands and laughed, “Bubbles! Bubbles!”
Guan Ling was furious enough to slap her twice, her eyes red as she scolded, “It’s all because of you!” Silly Girl shrank behind Jiaran and dared not speak. Guan Ling stomped her foot and shouted anxiously, “Hurry, think of a way to save big brother!”
Ye Xiaoxuan watched as Little Fish took off her jacket, already understanding what she intended to do. He grabbed her arm and said, “You’re in good shape; don’t get in the water yet!” Then he put his index finger to his lips and whistled.
But the whistle was useless; Xiaolu was already sent to follow Chen Tianlei on Xiangsha Island “vacation,” too far to hear it.
Little Fish broke free from Ye Xiaoxuan’s grip, shook her head, and said, “Don’t worry about me. You asked if that pill was poison, right? Now I’ll show you. Remember, you must trust me!”
Under everyone’s puzzled gaze, Little Fish leapt, her body piercing the water like a steel nail. With only a “swoosh,” she disappeared beneath the lake without even a splash.
Everyone stood by the lake in silent dread, barely daring to breathe. Only Silly Girl amused herself, spinning around one way, then the other.
But everyone was now on guard, clutching their pockets tightly, not daring to let her steal anything else.
With a splash, Ye Dajun emerged from the water and swam to shore. Everyone hurriedly pulled him out. Ye Xiaoxuan anxiously asked, “What about Little Fish?”
Ye Dajun panted, “Still down there searching! She’s a better swimmer than me, so she told me to come up first!”
Guan Ling rubbed her eyes and said, “Get her up now! I don’t want the phone anymore!” Ye Dajun shook his head. “She dove too deep, I can’t go down! You’ll have to go yourself!”
Guan Ling huffed, “Big brother, if I knew how to swim, I would have gone down already. Why would I call you?”
Ye Xiaoxuan responded sympathetically, taking her hand gently. “Can’t swim?” Guan Ling nodded shamefully. Ye Xiaoxuan nodded understandingly in return.
Guan Ling rolled her eyes. “Do you think I’m pathetic?”
“Not at all!” Ye Xiaoxuan frowned and pursed his lips.
Guan Ling finally cracked a smile through her tears. “Then teach me to swim sometime!”
Ye Xiaoxuan shrugged. “I don’t know how either.”
Guan Ling was speechless.
As soon as Ye Dajun got out, Silly Girl rushed over, grabbed his arm, and tried to run off with him. They seemed to be having so much fun, neither willing to part.
Everyone was getting anxious. Little Fish had been underwater for five minutes without any sign! If Ye Xiaoxuan hadn’t known her swimming skills were excellent, he might have jumped in to check.
Another ten minutes passed, and panic spread. Guan Ling was nearly in tears, shouting, “If you won’t go, I will!”
Yuan Caiyi and Jiaran each grabbed her arm, pulling her back. Jiaran said, “Don’t be reckless. You don’t know how to swim. None of us are good swimmers. Going down would be suicide!”
Yuan Caiyi told Ye Xiaoxuan, “Xiaoxuan, go quickly and ask Master Yu Liu to come!”
Ye Dajun took off his vest, baring his chest. “I’ll go down again to check!”
Chaos ensued, but Ye Xiaoxuan remained calm, eyes shut tight, seemingly untouched by the commotion.
Suddenly, a splash from the lake startled everyone. Silly Girl excitedly pointed at the water and shouted, “Fish! Fish!”
Guan Ling cried out joyfully, “It’s Fourth Sister!” Ye Xiaoxuan finally opened his eyes, exhaled deeply, and murmured, “I knew you’d be fine. I believe in you.”
Little Fish, soaking wet, stepped ashore. Ye Xiaoxuan had already taken off his shirt and draped it over her. She approached Guan Ling, looking a little sad.
“Big sister, I got the phone, but it’s soaked and can’t be used anymore.”
Guan Ling didn’t take the phone. Instead, she pulled Little Fish into her arms, choking back tears. “Silly sister, how could you risk your life over a broken phone?”
Jiaran and Yuan Caiyi came over, holding her and wiping away tears. “Exactly. Nothing is more important than a person’s life.”
Little Fish smiled softly and said, “It’s not that serious. I can’t explain everything now because some things you might not believe. Just know I can stay underwater for a long time. I might die of thirst, but I definitely won’t drown.”
Everyone looked at her, puzzled and bewildered. It had been at least forty minutes. No normal person could stay underwater that long. Had Little Fish really turned into a fish? How had she done it?
