Chapter 27: Aftermath
At the same time, in another location, Alex, covered in bloody stains with tattered clothes and a disheveled appearance, looked up toward the direction of the distant, violent explosions and muttered in confusion.
"An explosion? But it doesn't sound like the artillery fire of an army, and the aliens don't have any high-tech weapons capable of causing such blasts."
Alex hooked another survivor, whose limbs had been snapped, and drove a claw into his chest. He drained the blood and soul from within until the man was nothing more than a withered husk. Only after feeling that the injuries he sustained while hunting the aliens had fully healed did he stop.
Beneath his feet lay a pile of corpses sucked dry.
Tossing the body aside, Alex pondered to himself.
"Besides, the army shouldn't be there; they are in a different location. Furthermore, in the plot of the movie, there was never a scene where a survivor organization triggered a massive explosion."
"In that case, there is only one answer... Is it the North Ice Continent Team?!"
A terrifying aura rose from him. Alex crushed the skull of a corpse under his foot, sending brittle bone fragments spraying across the ground.
"If it really is you lot, then that would be just perfect... Heh, I haven't explored that sector yet anyway."
Alex gave a sinister chuckle. He picked up a set of clean clothes from the ground, changed into them, and began walking in the direction of the explosions.
"I have two more days before I can complete the main mission and return to the God Space, so I will spend a day and a half hunting them down."
"If I cannot find them... then so be it. I will leave this city and put some distance between myself and the terrifying Central Continent Team that will arrive in two days..."
"But if I do find you... I will make sure you die a hideous death! North Ice Continent Team, North Ice Continent strategist... don't let me catch you!"
...
Chen Mo and Jenny were the first to return to the safe house. Unable to tolerate the filth and stench from crawling through the sewers, Chen Mo went to take a shower first. Jenny, however, having just survived the ordeal and being overwhelmed by the shock of gaining so many reward points, had no time for such things. She was busy recounting the recent dangers to Jarrod and his wife.
Shortly after, J and Osas returned as well. They were exhausted and covered in dust, but just like Jenny, they were exceptionally excited.
The last to return were Chu Hao and Ares. Because of his position as a sniper, Chu Hao had to face the aliens who had sensed the explosions while he was trying to escape. However, thanks to the high-quality equipment provided by Chen Mo and the interference from the drones controlled by Ares, Chu Hao only looked a bit disheveled and remained uninjured.
By this time, Chen Mo had finished his shower and emerged to find his teammates looking dirty and disheveled. He was the first to speak.
"Well? The mission was a complete success, aren't you going to wash up and celebrate a little?"
A massive harvest! A B-rank side quest for everyone, plus the side quests Chen Mo mentioned for saving key plot characters... The North Ice Continent Team had truly struck gold this time!
If nothing went wrong afterward, once the survival time concluded and the North Ice Continent Team returned to the God Space, they would—combining their current B-rank side quest and over twenty thousand reward points with the rescue rewards—be able to secure two or more B-rank side quests and perhaps over thirty thousand reward points in total!
(The first generation of reincarnators would be weeping in the bathroom.)
The rewards were simply too generous. Unfortunately, except for Jenny, those who didn't understand the pricing of the God Space felt more joy at the success of the plan and their narrow escape.
As for Chen Mo, he hadn't truly begun "farming" points yet, so he didn't have any particular feelings about it.
Because things had played out differently than the original plot—and thanks to the ample preparation of supplies—Jenny and Chen Mo hadn't experienced the situation where they were almost killed by a strategist. Consequently, Jenny harbored no resentment toward Chu Hao; instead, she was convinced by his top-tier planning and extraordinary intellect.
"We really owe it to Chu Hao's strategy this time, as well as the various tools provided by Chen Mo and everyone's help. That's the only reason we were able to get so many side quests and reward points!"
After showering, the group sat around the dining table. The food had been prepared by Jarrod's wife, Elaine, and Ares. The table was filled with delicacies, and Chu Hao had even personally contributed a few Chinese dishes.
Jenny held up her glass, her face flushed, looking quite happy.
"A B-rank side quest, twenty thousand reward points... how much can you buy with that? If I traded it all for soy milk, wouldn't I be able to flood the entire God Space?" Jenny couldn't help but let her imagination run wild.
"Do you veterans have some kind of grudge against soy milk... and how does a European like you even know about soy milk?"
"Still, this harvest is indeed excellent," Chen Mo said at the right moment to maintain his "pseudo-veteran" persona.
"Most things of value in the God Space require side quests to purchase. A B-rank side quest can buy quite a few good items—things like the spatial storage gear or magical weapons I have, or perhaps bloodline enhancements, magic, or even martial arts and immortal cultivation techniques. Based on a B-rank side quest, you can theoretically purchase high-level exchanges."
"However, we have very little accumulation and no gene locks. If you directly exchange for a B-rank enhancement, you won't be able to fully utilize its power. So, my advice is that even if you want to perform an enhancement, it's best not to choose one that consumes all your side quests at once."
"Then how about we pull off another job?" J suggested excitedly.
"If we follow Chu Hao's plan a few more times and farm some A-rank or S-rank side quests, wouldn't we be able to become immortals once we return to the God Space?"
Chen Mo rolled his eyes at him. "What are you thinking? It’s not that easy. The difficulty in the God Space is dynamically balanced... Simply put, God won't let us get strong so easily. Using some wit and schemes to farm points is fine, but you must know when to stop. If you really try to farm an A-rank or S-rank side quest as you said..."
"Well... perhaps that alien mothership above our heads might just blast us with a planet-destroying cannon."
Hearing this, J shrank his head and fell silent, though he still grinned. "It's fine, then we won't farm that much. Isn't farming one or two more of those gorilla aliens enough..."
"Don't let greed cloud your judgment, J," Chu Hao said, fiddling with a croissant. His appetite was surprisingly large; he had already eaten several main courses and desserts, yet showed no sign of stopping.
"In fact, my plans don't always succeed. If anything, they usually go wrong due to various circumstances. The only reason we could resolve this safely was because our preparations were sufficient."
"Our explosives and drones have already been significantly depleted, and because of the commotion earlier, the aliens are already paying attention to this area... It would be difficult to replicate that plan to farm more points."
"So... farming points might not be realistic. What we should do is plan carefully and use this massive harvest to choose the upgrades we want. That is the best course of action."
