Chapter 87: From This Moment On, You Are No Longer My Class Monitor
10 a.m.
Aoba First High School.
Cheng Feng returned to the school he hadn’t seen in ages; it had been a long time since his last class. Despite the months that had passed, nothing had changed. They say that once you step into society, you start to miss your school days, but Cheng Feng felt nothing of the sort.
Before arriving, he had already called his homeroom teacher to explain that he would soon come to handle his withdrawal from Aoba High. Now, he was no longer the ordinary, unremarkable high school student he used to be; with his official status as an elite Demon Hunter, his social standing and authority far surpassed that of any teacher at the school.
In the past, if someone provoked him and he got into a fight, he would have to answer to his homeroom teacher, be summoned to the office, have his parents called in, and end up with a mark on his record. It was truly frustrating, but those were the rules.
Now, things were entirely different. With his current identity, even if he caused trouble at school, not just the homeroom teacher—even the principal would have to accommodate him as much as possible. After all, elite Demon Hunters were rare compared to the other ranks; their immense power was what society needed most, and the authorities treated them with the utmost respect. If a horde of monsters invaded from abroad, elite Demon Hunters would be the first to defend the city, the heroes on the front lines.
Thus, they enjoyed high social status. If an elite Demon Hunter acted out a little, as long as it didn’t harm humans, even if reported to the Disaster Association, the association would hardly take substantive action. Even in a capitalist system, elite Demon Hunters were courted and flattered.
Generally, those who rose to the elite rank were upright and selfless, focused solely on exterminating demons, and rarely attracted negative public opinion.
As Cheng Feng stepped through the school gates, a cry rang out nearby.
“Whoa! Cheng Feng!”
The gatekeeper suddenly darted out of the security office like a gust of wind and blocked Cheng Feng’s path.
Seeing Cheng Feng’s puzzled face, the old man pulled out a sheet of paper and a fountain pen. “Cheng Feng, it’s been a long time! Remember me? I used to open the gate for you when you were late. No need for words—just sign your name here, would you?”
Cheng Feng was confused. “I’m nothing special. Why do you want my autograph?”
“Ah, don’t be so modest! You’re this year’s promotion tournament champion—you’ve got so many fans now.”
The old man beamed. “My granddaughter watched your match and really likes you. She’s always pestering me to meet you, but how would I know where to find you?”
“So it’s that serious?” Cheng Feng was mildly surprised.
The old man continued excitedly, “Just leave your signature here. I’ll give it to my granddaughter, and she’ll be so happy!”
Cheng Feng had never imagined he would have fans. Thinking back, it was no wonder the media rushed to interview him after his victory.
So, he was becoming famous. After winning the championship, he must have gained some notoriety online. After all, he was just an eighteen-year-old high schooler, merely an intern Demon Hunter, yet he swept through the entire promotion tournament.
The last champion to achieve such a feat was Lu Baiming, who did it at twenty-one and now stood as the association’s second most powerful ace member, a position of great prestige.
As this year’s champion, Cheng Feng was even younger, breaking Lu Baiming’s record. Many online believed in his potential, seeing him as a new star for humanity’s future, someone with the qualifications to become an ace himself.
Cheng Feng didn’t spend much time online and hadn’t noticed the terrifying surge in followers on his various social accounts.
After appeasing the gatekeeper, Cheng Feng entered the campus. Passing through the central fountain plaza, he climbed the stairs to the classroom building.
Along the way, he noticed many students’ eyes drifting toward him as if he were a celebrity; their gazes were fixed, whispers exchanged, and some blatantly snapped photos.
Some bold, pretty girls approached, hoping for selfies with Cheng Feng to boost their social media, but he politely declined.
“Everyone, look! Cheng Feng is at school!”
Someone, eager for drama, shouted aloud.
More people gathered.
Soon, a tall, muscular figure appeared in the long corridor of the classroom building. Cheng Feng recognized him immediately: Gao Qiang, the muscle-bound troublemaker who had previously targeted Jiang Qian and sought him out.
Back then, near the gym, Cheng Feng had beaten Gao Qiang and his cronies so thoroughly that, realizing the vast difference in strength, Gao Qiang hadn’t dared show his face since.
Now he was stepping forward—was it for revenge?
“Cheng Feng, I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have caused you trouble.”
Gao Qiang approached, offering a cigarette, and spoke humbly. “I hope you can let bygones be bygones. Can we settle our grievances?”
“No need. I don’t smoke. Besides, I stopped caring about such petty things after that fight,” Cheng Feng replied, brushing past Gao Qiang and heading for the office. “Just take care of yourself and stop bullying other students.”
Gao Qiang scratched his head and sighed, saying nothing.
Cheng Feng entered the office. The homeroom teacher had been waiting for him.
The teacher had no objections to Cheng Feng’s decision to withdraw, nor did he ask for reasons; in fact, he wholeheartedly supported it. He promptly handed Cheng Feng the withdrawal documents to sign.
In Class One’s classroom, Xia Qingyao heard the shouts outside—Cheng Feng had come to school, specifically to withdraw.
Her first instinct was to rush out and stop him, but she restrained herself. After all, Cheng Feng was already a Demon Hunter; academic credentials no longer mattered much to him.
Besides, even if she wanted to stop him, she had neither the reason nor the right.
When Cheng Feng finished the withdrawal procedures and was about to leave, memories from childhood stirred within Xia Qingyao, and she couldn’t resist the urge to chase after him.
Cheng Feng descended the classroom building and headed toward the school gate, intent on leaving, when hurried footsteps sounded behind him.
Intrigued, Cheng Feng turned around.
He saw a familiar black-haired girl approaching, and he frowned slightly. “Class rep?”
From the classroom building, heads poked out, countless eyes fixed on the pair in the courtyard, eager for gossip.
“Look, it’s Class One’s class rep. Why is she chasing after him?”
“Are they connected somehow?”
“No way—our school forbids dating, and the class rep of Class One is famous for following the rules.”
“Who knows? Let’s just enjoy the drama!”
The lakeside wind blew, chilling Xia Qingyao to the bone. She asked, awkwardly, “Have you really decided to withdraw? What about your future?”
“Class rep… no, Xia Qingyao.”
Cheng Feng was no longer a student, so he addressed her by name, his tone distant. “I have my own path to follow. You don’t need to worry about me anymore. Don’t forget…
I’m no longer a student of the class, and you are no longer my class rep.”
