Chapter 74 Gone
Qin Miaoyu never expected to hear such words from the bodyguard; her first instinct was disbelief. Since she had met Liang Qibin, their interactions had always been pleasant. The boy was obedient and well-behaved in her presence; the things the bodyguard relayed didn’t sound like anything Liang Qibin would ever say.
She asked, “Is that really what he said? Could you please ask him again?”
The bodyguard replied, “That’s exactly what the young master said.”
Seeing that the bodyguard was not about to let her in, Qin Miaoyu took out her phone, intending to ask Liang Qibin directly.
But the bodyguard said, “The young master’s phone has been confiscated.”
Liang Qibin, hearing voices outside his room, guessed that his aunt was trying to come in and see him. He simply got up, walked to the door, and knocked to signal his presence.
“Has she left?”
Outside, Qin Miaoyu heard the unusually cold tone in his voice, so unlike his usual self, and finally realized the bodyguard had been telling the truth. For a moment, anger surged within her; she turned and left the hospital.
“Young master, she’s gone,” the bodyguard reported.
Liang Qibin responded softly from inside the room, then walked to the window and looked down through the glass. He had just caught a glimpse of his aunt’s figure when he quickly averted his gaze as if scalded.
Thinking of his family’s plans, he felt too ashamed to face his aunt. She must have been tricked into coming to the hospital today, and with his phone and smartwatch taken away by his mother, plus bodyguards stationed at the door, he had no way to tip her off…
That day, Zheng Suning happened to have returned to work. Earlier, Liang Siyuan had mentioned Liang Qibin’s illness to her, hoping she could find out more about the situation. Out of empathy and concern for her nephew, Liang Siyuan intended to help however he could—he had several doctor friends abroad; if no solution could be found locally, perhaps they could try seeking treatment overseas.
So, Zheng Suning took the opportunity to visit the hematology department. Based on the basic details Liang Siyuan had provided, and the fact that Liang Qibin needed to be hospitalized, it was clearly no minor illness.
As she walked towards the department, a nurse informed her that Dr. Jiang was currently with a patient’s family.
“It’s the family of a child who needs a bone marrow transplant. I heard they’re from the Liang family, the wealthiest in Nancheng. They’ll probably be in there for quite a while.”
Zheng Suning’s heart skipped a beat. The Liang family? Could it be about Liang Qibin?
Trying to remain composed, she asked, “Are they still looking for a matching bone marrow donor?”
“Not exactly. You know how it is with wealthy families—they always want to be cautious. Unfortunately, none of the family members are a match, so they were planning to look for a donor in the bone marrow registry. But then, for some reason, they put the search on hold. The child was admitted again a few days ago—lots of back and forth, and no one really knows what they’re up to.”
Now Zheng Suning was certain the discussion was about Liang Qibin. She took out her phone to update Liang Siyuan.
The nurse assumed she had other matters to attend to and said, “Dr. Zheng, if you’re busy, go ahead. The Liang family has only just gone in. Once Dr. Jiang is free, I’ll let you know.”
“Thank you, I’ll leave for now,” Zheng Suning replied.
She called Liang Siyuan to explain the situation, and he fell silent. He hadn’t expected his parents and elder brother’s family to keep such a major matter from him, nor had they sought him out for a compatibility test. It was likely because his blood type didn’t match Liang Qibin’s.
“Let’s talk later. I just saw Miaoyu—she seems upset. I’ll go check on her,” he said.
Before he could say more, she had already hung up.
Zheng Suning pocketed her phone and walked over to Qin Miaoyu.
“Miaoyu, what brings you here?”
Hearing her voice, Qin Miaoyu turned around. “Suning, you’re working today?”
“Yes. What brings you to the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, my sister-in-law was worried about the family’s health after Qibin’s sudden illness, so she asked us to come for a checkup—and to visit Qibin.”
Zheng Suning hadn’t expected Wei Wei to show such concern for others, but she didn't dwell on it. Instead, she asked, “Did something unpleasant happen? You don’t look very happy.”
Qin Miaoyu didn’t want to elaborate. “It’s nothing, really. Qibin isn’t feeling well and didn’t want visitors, so I got a little upset.”
Her phone vibrated in her pocket. Zheng Suning checked it—it was Liang Siyuan again.
She exchanged a few words with him, then handed the phone to Qin Miaoyu.
Liang Siyuan, just like Zheng Suning, asked why Qin Miaoyu had come to the hospital so suddenly. Hearing that she was fine, he was relieved.
Remembering the message Liang Qibin had asked the bodyguard to pass along, Qin Miaoyu covered the phone and quietly asked Zheng Suning if she could stay at her second brother’s place.
Zheng Suning laughed. “You should ask your brother—it’s not my house.”
Qin Miaoyu teased, “You’ll be my sister-in-law soon. What’s his is yours, so I have to check with you first!”
Zheng Suning flushed with embarrassment. “Alright, just hurry up and ask your brother!”
So Qin Miaoyu asked her second brother over the phone if she could stay at his place.
“Of course! I told you last time to stay with me, but you insisted on going back to the main house.”
With her accommodation settled, Qin Miaoyu didn’t want to keep her brother longer and handed the phone back to Suning.
She noticed that Suning’s expression had darkened after the call. Curious, she asked, “Suning, what did my brother say?”
Zheng Suning shook her head. “Nothing, just some minor things. I have to get back to work now. Where do you plan to go?”
“I’m going home to pack up, then I’ll move to my brother’s place for a while.”
“Alright, be careful on the road. If you need anything, call me or your brother anytime.”
“Okay, Suning, I’ll go now. Don’t let me keep you from work.”
Watching Qin Miaoyu walk away, Zheng Suning recalled the suspicions Liang Siyuan had voiced over the phone, hoping they weren’t true.
When Qin Miaoyu returned to the Liang family residence, she packed her belongings. The butler saw her coming downstairs with her suitcase and hurried to ask, “Second Miss, are you going somewhere?”
“I’m going to stay with my brother. Please have the driver take me.”
Hearing that she was only going to her second brother’s, the butler relaxed but still tried to persuade her, “The main house is lively with so many people. Why not wait until the master, madam, and young madam return before you leave?”
“No need. If the driver isn’t available, I can leave on my own.”
The butler quickly replied, “No, no, the driver is available.”
After the driver took Qin Miaoyu away, the butler deliberated for a while and finally decided to call the madam to inform her.
When Xi Ruofen heard that Qin Miaoyu had left, she became anxious. “How could you let her go? Didn’t I tell you to keep a close eye on her?”
