Liang Qibin did not stay at Dongshan Villa for long. A call came from Liang Siyuan: the Liang family had already gone there to ask for him, and asked whether Qibin was at the villa. So even though he was reluctant, he had to leave in the Liang family car.

Qin Miaoyu sat on the sofa for a while. The doorbell rang again.
She opened the door and said, “Qibin, did you forget something?”

“Qin Miaoyu? Why are you here?” She only then realized the woman at the door was Liang Sixuan.

Qin snapped, “Did your brother’s household put up a sign saying I’m not allowed in?”

There was no such sign. Liang Sixuan simply did not know Qin had returned to South City, and did not know that Qin was actually living here. In a year, she had grown even more polished and radiant, while Qin now clung to what little she had, holding it tight so she would not slip into a life of humiliation.

“Let me in.”

Qin refused. “Second Brother and Zhen Ning didn’t tell me you were coming. I’m only a guest, so I can’t act as host for Elder Brother and his wife.”

“You!” Liang Sixuan muttered, angered, and could only call Liang Siyuan.

After a few words, she handed the phone to Qin. “Here. Second Brother asked you to take the call.”
Qin answered. When she hung up, she gave the phone back. “Come in.”

Liang Sixuan entered with a sour expression. Once, the one inside should have been her, while Qin would have been left waiting outside. But now, Qin Miaoyu is Liang blood indeed.

Inside the villa, Liang Sixuan began to inspect everything. Qin felt her phone vibrating in her purse and used it as an excuse to carry fruit to the kitchen. In the kitchen she checked the message from Second Brother once again and then, after composing herself, brought the platter out.

“Here, eat.”

She set the tray before Liang Sixuan.

Liang Sixuan narrowed her eyes at the fruits. “Qin Miaoyu, is this how you treat guests? The fruit isn’t even peeled. Even the big ones are chopped in uneven chunks. How am I supposed to eat this?”

“Then don’t eat, or peel it yourself.”

Liang Sixuan leaned back on the sofa, furious, and then her energy snapped back.
“How is it? Trouble with your husband? You came to South City all by yourself?”

Qin was blunt. “And what about you? You came here alone, too. Is your relationship with Su Yikun in trouble as well?”

“Of course not. I just came to visit my brother.”

Sixuan did not admit it, yet Qin caught a faint trace of bitterness in her face. But she gave only a polite smile and checked her own phone.

Sixuan made it plain she wanted to linger in argument. “You’re staying at your brother’s place?”

Qin was not eager to answer, but remembering her brother’s words, she said, “Yes.”

“Which guest room are you in?”

Qin pointed to her own room.

“You pointed wrong, didn’t you?”

Sixuan remembered that soon after Liang Siyuan and Zheng Suning married, she had once come to Dongshan Villa and found that room under renovation. The maid then had told her it was not a guest room.

Qin blinked. “It isn’t wrong. That is where I stay now.”

Sixuan froze, then called for a maid.
“I’m staying here today. Arrange a room for me.”

“Certainly, Miss Sixuan. I’ll prepare a ground-floor guest room.”

“No, you don’t need to. I just remembered I have plans later, and won’t stay the night. Go do something else.”

The confused maid left to return to her chores.

At first, Qin did not understand why Sixuan had reacted so oddly. When the room request was made, she understood immediately: Sixuan knew the room Qin used was not a guest room. She was testing whether there was another room here that was not a guest room.

Qin looked at her and saw her face growing heavy with resentment.

Whatever Sixuan had gone through, though her relations with Second Brother had never been smooth, she would never have been this insistent before—this insistence on measuring how much place she held in his house.

“Did you come here for some special reason today? If he and his wife are both out and I’m not here, at this hour there would only be the driver, the maid, and the cook in Dongshan Villa.”

“I just had nothing to do. Is it wrong to come by and check on them?”

“Fine. But weren’t you with Aunt Liang’s company before? That company is huge. You have no need to worry.”

“Qin Miaoyu, why are you so talkative? Don’t bother me.”

“All right. Then amuse yourself. I’m going to rest.”

Qin stood and returned to her room.

Watching her go, Liang Sixuan’s wavering was gone at once. Since Second Brother had treated her this way, she refused to blame herself for ignoring sisterly feeling.

The Dongshan Villa Liang Siyuan bought was not large. Since only he and Zheng Suning lived there, he kept only a few people: two household attendants, a cleaning maid, one cook, and a driver, so the place felt unusually cold and quiet.

Liang Sixuan picked up the coffee the maid had brought and, with one careless move, spilled a few drops on her light coat.
“I’m furious. Even the coffee is against me. You come here and take this coat to wash it clean. Dry it after it’s done. And don’t ruin it—if you ruin it, you can’t afford to replace it.”

“Of course, Miss Sixuan,” the maid said, quickly carrying the coat away.

She looked again at the fruit tray and told another maid to bring the fruits to the kitchen.
“Peel all those that need peeling, and cut the large pieces into even chunks.”

“Miss Sixuan, do all of this?”

Qin had brought a large tray. There was a lot of fruit in it.

“Yes. Do it all quickly.”

The maid took the tray away.

Liang Sixuan wandered through the rooms. Dongshan Villa seemed different from when she had last come. She opened the guest room the maid had once said needed to be tidied, and found it plain and ordinary. She then opened the room next door. The two rooms were exactly the same.

Resentment flickered in her. Is this what bloodline means?
As long as there is blood relation, even when it has been recently reclaimed, Second Brother sees Qin Miaoyu as far more important than she is.

She climbed the stairs, stepped to the window and looked out, then came back to stand by Qin Miaoyu’s door.

In the room, Qin Miaoyu did not know what Liang Sixuan was doing at that moment. She was only following what Second Brother had told her, looking for a chance to leave Liang Sixuan to act alone.
