Chapter 29: The Arrangement
Amidst the clamor of the jewelry exhibition, Wen Wan'er had already quietly changed her attire, blending into the bustling crowd. With her hands tucked casually into her pockets, a mysterious, inscrutable smile played upon her lips. Tucked away in her pocket, the heavy diamond ring rested silently.
At that moment, Quan Duoduo’s figure entered Wen Wan'er’s line of sight. Her face was haggard, her eyes red and swollen. As she stumbled past, Wen Wan'er deliberately raised her voice, letting out a cold snort with an undisguised sneer on her face.
"Oh my, has Miss Quan had a taste of the bitterness of love?"
The voice was clear and piercing, sharp enough to make Quan Duoduo stop in her tracks and turn around. Their gazes met in the air; a flash of surprise and anger crossed Quan Duoduo’s eyes, but she chose not to linger. Gritting her teeth, she turned and fled. Watching Quan Duoduo’s wretched departure, the smile on Wen Wan'er’s face grew even more radiant.
Quan Duoduo’s exit put Wen Wan'er in an exceptionally good mood. She walked out into the sunlight, her hair dancing in the breeze, and with a light, rhythmic step, she hummed a jaunty tune as she exited the exhibition hall.
Outside, a black sedan was parked quietly. Once inside, the driver, Wan Ru, started the engine with practiced ease and followed a pre-planned route, leaving the exhibition site and heading straight for the hospital.
Inside the car, Wen Wan'er said slowly, "The show is about to begin."
The driver was none other than the villain who had been disguised as a cleaner moments ago. She gripped the steering wheel tightly. "I can hardly wait. Let’s see how that scumbag He Lingfeng handles this!"
Wan Ru was a nurse Wen Wan'er had met by chance at the hospital three months ago. She had experienced a broken home and an unhappy marriage; during her pregnancy, her ex-husband had revealed his demonic nature. The beatings and abuse became unbearable, and for the sake of her child, she had escaped that terrifying cage.
Sunlight filtered through the hospital windows, casting beams onto the cold floor, yet it seemed unable to bring a hint of warmth to a place saturated with the smell of disinfectant. Wan Ru and Wen Wan'er, each harboring their own secrets, wove through the hospital corridors. Wan Ru quickly changed into her nurse’s uniform and hurried toward the sixth floor, while Wen Wan'er headed straight for the Intensive Care Unit. The door to the ICU opened gently as Wen Wan'er swiped a card, slipping inside without a sound.
Yun Qiuya lay quietly on the hospital bed, her face calm but her eyes hollow, as if she had lost all hope and vitality. Her complexion was bloodless, pale as a sheet of paper, resembling an elderly person whose life was nearing its end. Wen Wan'er walked to the bedside and took hold of her hand firmly.
She whispered into Yun Qiuya’s ear, "Qiuya, today’s plan went very smoothly. He Lingfeng has been led step by step into the trap. We only need to wait a little longer; once He Lingfeng’s reputation is ruined, we can finally avenge Qing'er."
Upon hearing Wen Wan'er’s words, Yun Qiuya moved her lips slightly, her voice coming out thin and airy: "Good. I have already contacted the finance department of the Yun family. She is my confidante. As soon as He Lingfeng embezzles money from the account, I can kick him out of the Yun Corporation for good."
Though her voice was faint, a glimmer of light returned to her hollow eyes. Wen Wan'er patted her hand gently. "He Lingfeng will certainly take the bait. I’ve had people look into it—that ring is worth a fortune. Lin Ou doesn't have the authority to make such a decision on his own, and he can’t answer to his grandfather without the final payment. He will inevitably force He Lingfeng to cough up the money. As long as He Lingfeng takes the risk for that ring, we will definitely be able to catch him in the act."
Having said this, Wen Wan'er rose gently and left the room.
