Chapter 67: Ancient Scripts and the Three Sacred Pillars
The cultural landscape of Kanaz City everywhere displayed the perfect blend of nature and science. Humans and Pokémon strolled leisurely down the streets, and restaurants and cafés infused with Pokémon elements could be seen everywhere.
Standing on the street and gazing northeast, one could faintly make out the silhouette of towering Chimney Mountain.
“There are so many people over there,” Gengar suddenly remarked.
Hu Yang followed its gaze and glanced in that direction, saying, “It’s probably some sort of exhibition or event.”
Back in Orange City, he would occasionally see gatherings of Pokémon enthusiasts in the park. For example, fans of Machamp, who pursued powerful muscles, would come together to share their love for the Pokémon. The first time Hu Yang saw such a gathering, he thought it was some strange group party. Out of curiosity, he watched for a while and discovered people were simply sharing the charm of Machamp.
As for the exhibition before him...
Hu Yang took Gengar to join the crowd, and before they even reached the front, an elegant female voice drifted over.
“Legend has it, long, long ago, the world was empty, until one day, Groudon, representing the will of the land, and Kyogre, representing the will of the sea, appeared in this world.
“Groudon raised the land while Kyogre filled the oceans. When these two Pokémon met, they fought an earth-shattering battle to compete for natural energy and expand their territory.
“Later, the god of the sky intervened to stop their battle, and sent both Pokémon into caves for a long slumber.
“The continent beneath our feet was born from the struggle between Groudon, the god of the land, and Kyogre, the god of the sea.
“Afterwards, a mysterious giant Pokémon used its power to divide the land into several pieces, dragging them to different parts of the planet.
“Our Hoenn region is one of the pieces that was moved.”
“Wow, amazing! A Pokémon that can move continents—how big must it be?” a little boy in a blue short-sleeved shirt asked, full of curiosity.
The knowledgeable woman with the microphone introducing the Hoenn region smiled and replied, “Perhaps even bigger than our Devon Tower?”
The boy wondered, “But if they’re that big, why hasn’t anyone found them?”
The woman laughed, “That’s because, according to legend, those mythical Pokémon have the ability to change their size—much like how Poké Balls can capture Pokémon.”
“I know this!” another boy dressed as a traveling trainer said excitedly. “Some Pokémon shrink their bodies to save energy, and can even become energy forms or electronic signals, entering a dormant state! Professor Birch and his team developed the Poké Ball transfer technology based on this principle!”
The woman smiled and nodded. “That’s right!” Her eyes shone with longing. “I truly hope that one day I can see those mysterious and magnificent beings with my own eyes!”
Hu Yang stood nearby, silent. He really wanted to say: When Groudon and Kyogre actually appear, you won’t be thinking that way.
Because, whether in the games or the anime, whenever those two emerge, the entire Hoenn region undergoes dramatic changes. Massive earthquakes, endless torrential rain, clouds that block out the sun—such scenes are almost indistinguishable from the end of the world.
In the special edition, Steven controlled the three legendary titans and fought Groudon and Kyogre for three days and nights, ultimately exhausting himself to death.
He just wasn’t sure what the situation with Rayquaza was in this world. Would it be the black Rayquaza from Hoopa’s movie, or the one that was beaten up by Deoxys?
This event was an exhibition about the historical legends of the Hoenn region.
Hu Yang led Gengar through the bulletin boards recording ancient information.
For the people of this world, Groudon and Kyogre’s last appearance was thousands of years ago. With so much time passed and no firsthand witnesses, some people doubted whether they truly existed in this world.
Documents recording information about Groudon and Kyogre were scarce, but even the fragments conveyed their mystery and power.
For example: “Where they pass, all becomes land; vast seas devour all things.”
Some people even illustrated Groudon and Kyogre based on their own imagination.
Yet, in Hu Yang’s eyes, aside from the red and blue, those depictions were nothing like them.
But as Hu Yang moved to the next section, he was surprised to find a photograph of a ruin.
The photographer held a flashlight in his left hand and a camera in his right, clicking the shutter at a wall inside a cave.
That wall, inscribed with ancient writing, was illuminated by the flashlight; the rest of the cave remained shrouded in darkness.
The ancient script of this world...
Hu Yang couldn’t understand it. He tried using appraisal on it.
In the next moment, the characters transformed into clear information in his mind.
“We live in this cave, and make our home here.”
“All thanks to Pokémon.”
“But, we sealed that Pokémon away.”
“Because it was simply too terrifying.”
“Brave people, those whose future is full of hope, open the door! The eternal Pokémon lies within!”
“Ancient Regi—(the rest is illegible due to damage).”
“(Content unrecognizable due to damage).”
“All things will eventually be revealed.”
Hu Yang: “...”
Wasn’t this the ruin related to the sealing of the three legendary titans?
If he remembered correctly, this place was called the Chamber of Notices. Solving its puzzle would trigger an earthquake in Hoenn.
Then, the caves sealing Regice, Regirock, and Registeel—the Island Cave, Desert Ruins, and Ancient Tomb—would be unlocked.
In those places, one could encounter the three titans created by Regigigas.
Perhaps Hu Yang was so engrossed that he attracted the attention of the exhibition host—the woman who had just been giving the lecture.
She walked over, stood before the photograph, and offered an introduction. “This photo was taken by a companion of mine long ago, during a sea voyage. By chance, they captured it.”
“At that time, their ship suffered a terrible disaster, and thanks to the help of Pokémon, my friend stumbled into these ruins hidden beneath the water.”
Hu Yang: “...”
He could only say that person was truly lucky.
“You’re a traveling trainer, aren’t you?” the woman asked with a smile.
Hu Yang nodded.
“How envious! You can travel all over the world...” The woman’s eyes gleamed with yearning.
Just then, a voice called to her from behind.
Responding “Coming!” she said, “Good luck, I have to get back to work!”
