The van had no choice but to stop because its tire was flat.

Four middle-aged men with grim expressions rushed out of the van, instinctively glancing back the way they came.

A sizable horde of ordinary zombies relentlessly pursued them from behind.

For an average adult, killing a single ordinary zombie wasn’t difficult.

But when the number of ordinary zombies reached a certain scale, they became truly terrifying to ordinary people.

Especially zombies—creatures that never seemed to tire.

The four quickly inspected the tires and found that more than one was punctured.

Besides normal wear, there were scratches and bite marks from zombies, and many sharp burs stuck to the tires.

The burs’ sharp thorns had actually pierced through the reinforced tires.

“DAMN IT!!!”

The green-haired man kicked the damaged tire and cursed, “What the hell are these things?!”

They only had one spare tire on the vehicle, and now with more than one wheel damaged, one spare wasn’t enough.

“Did you idiots not watch the road while driving?! How did you run over all these green things?!”

The green-haired man ranted angrily, while the others’ faces darkened.

If anything was worse than not having enough spare tires, it was the fact that:

One, the zombie horde was closing in relentlessly from behind;

Two, the road ahead was covered with burs as far as the eye could see.

They had been running frantically before and hadn’t noticed, but looking closely now, the number of burs growing in the city was abnormally high.

And these burs were sharp enough to puncture tires.

Clearly, these were no ordinary burs.

Going further into the area, the dangers would be no less than staying with the zombies.

They were clearly trapped, unable to move forward or retreat.

Thinking this, one of the youths cast a blood-red gaze at the green-haired man.

Throughout the journey, the youth had been watching him with such a terrifying look.

The green-haired man felt his scalp tingle under that gaze, but in the life-or-death crisis and fueled by pride, he glared back and shouted, “Keep staring at me like that and I swear I’ll gouge your eyes out!”

The other two were about to say something when the youth lunged at the green-haired man recklessly.

“I’m going to rip out your heart and see if it’s black! You deliberately got the person who saved you killed!”

The green-haired man and the youth began to fight.

They abandoned all human reason, tearing and struggling like wild beasts.

Occasionally, curses, excuses, and blame were exchanged.

The other two initially tried to separate them and escape the dire situation, but when one was pushed by the green-haired man into a denser patch of burs and got attacked, they both joined the fight.

At that moment, the “patrolling” rabbits appeared.

Led by the muscular rabbit, this group of normally soft and adorable little rabbits in front of Tianyi now looked fierce, their red eyes glaring at the “intruders” engaged in battle—and also...

The zombie horde that was already “right before their eyes.”

...

From the western edge of the Climbing Tiger’s territory came a clear explosion.

A plume of thick black smoke drifted toward the sky.

The rising flames stopped at the boundary of the territory, causing no further threat.

After a while, the Climbing Tiger’s tentacles lowered Tianyi, who had been “held aloft.”

Just before Tianyi was lifted by the Climbing Tiger, he had been preparing to check the western edge of the territory.

Normally, the rabbits, who filled their time with “training” and “patrolling,” rarely altered their schedule unless something unusual happened.

—Such as Tianyi suddenly calling them.

Not long ago, the little rabbits led by the muscular rabbit on patrol suddenly stopped hopping in unison, straightened up, and perked their ears to listen.

Moments later, they dashed westward like the wind.

Such a sudden change naturally made Tianyi want to follow and see what was happening.

But before he could take two steps, the Climbing Tiger’s tentacles wrapped around him and lifted him into the air.

Usually, when Tianyi was near the Climbing Tiger and the big cat was in a good mood, some tentacles would casually rest on him.

But this act of hoisting him up high was unprecedented.

Such unusual behavior almost made Nainai, who was crouching in the shadows dazed, attack the Climbing Tiger.

Fortunately, Tianyi was quick and calmed Nainai with a raised hand, then turned to communicate briefly with the Climbing Tiger.

He requested to be held up higher so he could see what was happening in the west.

Yet the Climbing Tiger remained unmoved, even hiding Tianyi among its branches and leaves.

Meanwhile, many tentacles stretched out toward the west.

Since the Climbing Tiger claimed this territory, no formidable opponents had appeared, and it hadn’t extended its tentacles like this for a long time.

Fortunately, this situation didn’t last long.

When the Climbing Tiger put Tianyi down, the tentacles retracted.

At the tip of many tentacles, Tianyi saw a considerable number of ordinary zombies.

Each tentacle carried several of them.

Tianyi was speechless.

Even before the Climbing Tiger expanded its territory, he had never seen it “hunt” at night and bring back so much “fertilizer.”

Ignoring the fertilizer, Tianyi moved west again.

This time, the Climbing Tiger made no move to stop him.

The little orange cat immediately jumped onto Tianyi’s shoulder, with Nainai following behind.

Halfway there, Tianyi saw the hopping little rabbits.

After being led by the muscular rabbit to “fish” or fight, the little rabbits usually got dusty and their fur became messy.

Today, some even showed signs of being singed by fire.

Tianyi scooped up a little rabbit that had stopped and stood obediently when it saw him, examining it closely.

The little rabbit was well-behaved, eyes bright and red, letting Tianyi handle it until he gently put it back down.

“Not bad, just a bit singed. Nothing serious.”

After confirming the rabbits were fine, the little rabbits led the way.

Soon, they arrived at the site of the explosion and fire.

Tianyi ignored the scattered zombies and the suspected survivors, first counting the rabbits on the ground.

Good—all thirty-two were accounted for.

After counting, he picked each one up for inspection, especially those with more noticeable singe marks, confirming none had skin injuries before relaxing.

The muscular rabbit, almost completely smoke-blackened but still cocky, was tossed onto the ground.

Tianyi finally took a good look at the surroundings and the survivors.

Many burs had died in the combat zone, and burs seeds were everywhere.

More zombies were dead, showing various gruesome wounds.

It was obvious most of these zombies died at the Climbing Tiger’s hands.

Perhaps overwhelmed by the sudden influx of “fertilizer,” many incomplete or particularly decrepit zombies were simply tossed aside and not brought back by the Climbing Tiger.

Finally, there were the survivors.

Two obviously breathing but pitifully battered people were cornered by the rabbits.

One was a red-eyed youth; the other, a gaunt young man.

Both trembled uncontrollably under the rabbits’ watchful gaze.

Not far from them lay a fresh but incomplete human corpse—and... scattered body parts of another person.

Pieced together, it might have been another human.

Of course, there was also the still-smoking, exploded vehicle and an empty weapon.

Tianyi was speechless.

Unsurprisingly, he guessed that this many zombies must have been attracted by the sudden appearance of these survivors.

It was remarkable these two were still alive.

Tianyi looked at the two trembling humans surrounded by the rabbits.

They looked back at him, but where Tianyi’s eyes were thoughtful, theirs were filled with terror.

When the four had fought earlier, besides personal grudges, it was mainly because they felt they wouldn’t survive.

They thought they would either be torn apart by zombies and join their ranks, or die from mutant plant attacks and become fertilizer for the vegetation.

Or simply perish in internal strife.

But everything that followed was beyond their wildest expectations.

Of course, neither the youth nor the gaunt young man expected to be alive now, nor to be captured by a group of especially combat-capable rabbits equipped with weapons.

Even more unexpected was that, after capture, they were not immediately food—and then came another... human?

Apparently a young man in his twenties.

He wore clean clothes rare in the apocalypse, his skin unweathered and smooth, lacking the harshness of survival struggles.

In such a situation, encountering a human was better than facing zombies or mutant flora and fauna.

But was this sudden figure really human?!

No matter who saw him, they wouldn’t believe he was human.

And he seemed especially familiar with the rabbits???

Even the terrifying Climbing Tiger tentacles from before didn’t attack him.

Was this really something a human could do?!

Falling into the hands of zombies or mutant plants meant becoming food or being assimilated.

But in the hands of this terrifying, clearly intelligent being...

Maybe it would be better if they died now?

Under the increasingly terrified gaze of the youth and the gaunt man, Tianyi curled the corner of his mouth.

“I think we need to talk. First of all...”

He pointed at the burning embers and the smoking vehicle, then at the rabbits.

“Can someone explain why my little rabbits’ fur looks like this?”

Aside from the rabbits, there was, of course, the issue of the damaged burs.

Tianyi noticed some burs had been crushed by tires or burned.

But those problems could be dealt with one by one.

Tianyi admitted that, in some ways, he was fiercely protective.
