Chapter Ninety-Five: The City in the Sky
“Who goes there? Who is on the wall!”
The shout thundered across the silent battlements.
Shen Xin looked up and saw a patrol of soldiers in chainmail, each carrying a long spear.
In a flicker of movement, he vanished elsewhere.
When the patrol rushed over, all they found was the corpse of a sea toad lying on the ground.
“Hello, my name is Ash.” Ash smiled at Dean, greeting him with complete ease, showing none of the manner one would expect from a prisoner.
After finishing the thick volume, Left Revolver still felt only half-understanding, so he decided to return to Scarlet Eagle and watch the recording.
Seeing that the seal had already been lifted, the old beggar picked up the bowl and staff from the ground again and turned away.
The people present, hearing the griffin’s words, could not help but be stunned. Was this really true? Weren’t magical beasts creatures from games? How could they become the elders of the beastmen?
After two and a half hours, the results came out. Only a little over ten thousand people received the highest grades. That made things much easier. Liu Fan thus kept only the twenty-five thousand people with the best combined scores from the two remaining assessments and the first round of testing, not more and not less, exactly that number.
My brother always liked to hold my face in his hands and say to me, “Leaving is the best.” Every day he would gather the dew from the cherry blossoms to comb my hair, and we would lean outside the temple and answer one another in song.
Hearing that these long-suppressed gangs were rising from the ashes, everyone’s hearts lurched. Yet no one spoke; they were waiting, waiting for Dong Ge to ask in person.
After repeated setbacks, apart from Su Tie bringing home a few copper coins each day, they could not even afford the most basic expenses, let alone fill their stomachs. Seeing Su Tie grow gaunt by the day, Wan Ying felt deeply ashamed.
Tian Meiren stared in shock at the man before her. “M-Master?!” she cried, then hurriedly looked toward Li Mo, still kneeling on the ground, her hands beginning to tremble.
“Shi Ning greets Father-in-law and Mother-in-law.” She gently shook herself free of him and immediately knelt to them, bowing solemnly with great respect.
Of course, dealing with this fellow here was no problem for Lian, but having rarely seen a monster’s mutation form, if he killed the thing here it would be a pity. After all, a mutated being could also be called a Pioneer.
Huang Lian’s eyes were keen and bright. On this damp, chilly night, Ye Su Man could not help feeling that having such a teammate beside her was not a bad thing.
The imperial physician was now keeping the emperor alive with ginseng, waiting only for the crown prince to return. It had already been three months since the decree ordering the crown prince back to the capital was issued, yet on the western frontier there had been no sign at all of the imperial envoy sent to deliver it. The hidden strangeness of it needed no more than a toe to understand.
“Why do you say such a thing, Madam Shen?” Que Yingjie had not yet reacted, but Hong En’s expression changed slightly.
Even Yun Hao’s formidable physical strength had failed to break Sheng Yinmei’s Eight Demons Soul-Sealing Array, leaving Jian Wuyai and the others even more grave in expression. At this moment, their hearts had already plunged to the lowest abyss, filled with despair.
Unexpectedly, Shen Nianyi was remarkably considerate. At the right moment, revealing his identity was equivalent to giving him another chance. Though he was terrified to the point that his tongue nearly tied itself in knots, he knew he could not make another mistake this time.
When they returned home, Qian Xiancheng and Wei had not yet come back from Linjin Town. Today was the day to visit relatives at Qian Chuanchuan’s home. Yesterday, they had sent an entire donkey cart of gifts to the Wei family; today they were going to the Yang family, and they had brought plenty as well. By the look of things, Qian Chuanchuan would likely entertain his younger brother and sister-in-law for the sake of the gifts.
“Ah—sorry, you’re a step too late. But what’s wrong with you? Having a fit, are you? Heh.” Qin Yu looked awkwardly at the blue eagle before him and asked helplessly, a sheepish laugh escaping him as he spoke.
Night Wind stepped onto the soft grass and followed the group forward, memorizing the route beneath his feet while his eyes analyzed the current situation.
