Chapter 61: Zhang Long Berates You Pifu
Although October had only three weeks and three days of working days, Zhang Long’s performance was impressive. His transaction commissions exceeded half a million; with a 35% commission rate, that meant 175,000 yuan. Even after hefty taxes, he would pocket about 130,000 yuan—a generous sum.
But now, Director You wanted to take away half?
...
“Director You, this is too much.”
In the Shengxin finance office, Liang Xue’s expression was grim. She had glanced at Zhang Long’s expected earnings when signing the payroll, and the difference was glaring. Even if the commissions for the two teams under Flying Eagle Development were erased, it shouldn’t have fallen below 100,000.
She raised the issue, and Director You arrived.
“Liang Xue, mind your attitude,” Director You’s face was impassive. “You’re now Shengxin’s team manager—whose side are you on? Zhang Long was complained about in October; deducting some commission is justified.”
“If it weren’t for Zhang Long’s prior contributions to the company, everything would’ve been deducted. And besides, what does this have to do with you?”
Hearing this, a cold light flashed in Liang Xue’s eyes, her tone indignant. “Deducting pay for a complaint? Ask the investment and trading departments—who hasn’t been complained about? Do you even know how to manage? Is this a personal vendetta you think we’re blind to?”
“Liang Xue, you’re out of line!” Director You’s anger flared. “If I don’t deduct, instead of being grateful, you bite back and betray the company? Want to call a meeting? If anyone supports deducting half the commission for all who were complained about in October, I’ll admit defeat—and Zhang Long’s commission won’t be deducted.”
“Go ahead, see if you can.”
Liang Xue pressed her lips together; she knew without asking that no one would support something that affected their own interests. Otherwise, the two Flying Eagle Development teams wouldn’t have completely betrayed for commissions, and Zhang Long wouldn’t have learned his performance was erased only when notified by Director You.
Selfishness in human nature is no fantasy.
...
“Director You, damn you!”
As the atmosphere in the finance office grew tense and silent, the door suddenly flew open with a bang. Zhang Long strode in, fixing his gaze on Director You and launching into a tirade.
“I worked my ass off for Shengxin, brought in so much business—erase my performance once, fine, I accept it. Now, right before payday, you erase it again? What, were you raised by animals? You worthless piece of trash.”
“How was the investment department’s performance in September and October when I was here, and how is it now? Is the board brain-dead for letting you wreak havoc?”
“Don’t think I care about these hundred thousand in commission. Even if I don’t get a penny, I’ll still curse you.”
“Damn it, you bastard!”
The Bund was just a stone’s throw from Lujiazui. Zhang Long’s fury hadn’t even cooled before he arrived at Shengxin, marching straight to the finance department and cursing Director You without restraint. Who cared about his title? Zhang Long was already resigned; whatever his rank, he was nothing now.
...
“Zhang Long, you dare curse me?” Director You was stunned, incredulous.
“No shit, are you deaf?” Zhang Long spat back, blazing with anger. “If I weren’t a gentleman who settles things with words, I’d have punched you already.”
“Let me tell you, old fool, I can refuse my commission, but you can’t refuse to pay it. Try shorting me a single cent and see if you make it to the end of the month.”
“If you push me, I’ll gather my former clients and have them confront you, accusing you of deliberately sabotaging their funds.”
“Let’s see if they believe it and dare to make a scene. When I was coaching them, they made money—switch coaches, and they immediately start suffering big losses. Isn’t that suspicious?”
“I’ll insist my resignation was because you couldn’t stand me helping clients profit, so you forced me out. Can you handle that bomb?”
Liang Xue and several in the finance department were dazed; everything had happened so quickly. Before anyone could react, Zhang Long had stormed in and cursed Director You to the point of stupefaction.
Though Zhang Long had already resigned, to directly curse his former company director so brazenly was eye-opening.
Impressive—like a knife slashing open new horizons.
...
“Outrageous, utterly outrageous.”
Zhang Long was invited to the reception room. Liang Xue accompanied him, making small talk, while Director You was summoned to the executive vice president’s office, where several other board members had gathered, their expressions full of curiosity.
“Old You, what are you doing?” The executive vice president’s tone was hostile. “You drove out a high-performing employee like Zhang Long without a word, and even when a bunch of clients came demanding explanations at the start of the month, we didn’t say much. But you just won’t let up, will you? Can’t you keep quiet for a while?”
“What’s your problem now?”
The vice president’s anger soared; half the company had heard Zhang Long’s tirade against Director You, shattering the dignity of a company executive.
How could he command respect after this?
“I’m following regulations,” Director You snapped, his anger even higher than the vice president’s, neck stiff. “Zhang Long’s trades in October were clearly about inflating volume. He was complained about, and deducting commission is justified. I have the authority.”
“Authority, my ass.” The vice president cut him off bluntly, his eyes cold. “A fool’s rage can spill blood for miles. Why are you squabbling with a young upstart? You’re degrading yourself.”
“It’s one thing to erase commission for the Flying Eagle teams because of the complaint—he didn’t say a word.”
“But now, right before payday, you erase it again? Is your heart a pinhole?”
“This ends here.”
...
With that, the vice president turned to Zhu, another board member watching the drama, and sighed. “Old Zhu, go talk to Zhang Long. Tell him he won’t lose any commission.”
“Shengxin doesn’t short its employees, not even those who’ve resigned. Not a single cent will be withheld.”
“Let him rest assured.”
...
In the reception room, Liang Xue and Zhang Long sat across from each other. Coming back to his old company after resigning, especially after cursing out a board member, felt very different.
Honestly, it was more satisfying than he’d imagined.
“Thanks for standing up for me,” Zhang Long said, smacking his lips. “I didn’t expect you to confront Director You so directly. But you’ll probably be even more targeted by that old fool now. Better leave soon.”
“Mm, I know,” Liang Xue replied softly with a smile. Speaking out wasn’t just for Zhang Long—it was a matter of principle.
She planned to leave by the end of the month at the latest. As for Director You? She’d had enough of him long ago.
“Shengxin is really done for,” Zhang Long suddenly sighed, shaking his head. “With Director You running the trading department, it’s bound to fail. The deputy director of the investment department isn’t much of a manager either. Keep this up, and the company won’t make it to year’s end.”
“Either Shengxin’s leadership is stupid or brain-dead, letting those two mess things up. Unbelievable.”
“Not our concern,” Liang Xue’s gaze flickered, noncommittal. “Changing hands at the top is complicated. Like the dynastic changes in ancient times—none were free of scandals and messes.”
“We’re just workers, no need to overthink it. If Shengxin falls, we’ll find another company. It’s not the end of the world.”
“Not quite—but maybe soon,” Zhang Long shrugged. As for the rumored apocalypse on December 21st, he scoffed. Unless the planet exploded, the end of the world was nonsense. In his previous life, there was no doomsday, and in reality, it’s unlikely as well.
Just watch the drama, don’t believe rumors.
“Knock, knock-knock~”
Suddenly, a knock at the door. Zhang Long and Liang Xue turned to see their old leader enter. They rose quickly and greeted Director Zhu, ready to smooth things over.
As long as the vice president wasn’t an idiot, he wouldn’t escalate the situation and intensify the conflict.
As for Director You—he really was an idiot.
Enough said; mentioning him only lowers your IQ.
