Chapter Twelve: The Director Takes Credit!
“Take another look at this photo. Do you have anything to say?” Director Zhang showed the bomb photo to Yu Deshui.
“Ah! I remember now! That’s the road I paved back then!” Yu Deshui immediately recalled upon seeing the picture.
Director Zhang fixed his gaze on Yu Deshui’s eyes, his look sharp as a blade. “Yu Deshui, be honest. Do you have any enemies in the village?”
“No! I don’t have any enemies!” Yu Deshui shook his head quickly.
“At a time like this, you still want to hide the truth? No enemies, yet you buried over a thousand bombs under the road, wanting to blow everyone up?” Director Zhang sneered coldly.
Not to mention he didn’t believe it, none of the officers present did either. No grudges or conflicts—why would someone want to wipe out an entire family?
“Officer, please listen to my explanation. The road in our village was in terrible condition; it got slippery every time it rained. I thought of a solution: burying these bombs in the ground to prevent slipping!” Yu Deshui explained anxiously.
The officers around sneered at him, their expressions clearly saying, “Do you really think we’ll believe that?”
“Tell the truth! What was your real motive for doing this?” Director Zhang stared into Yu Deshui’s eyes, continuing the interrogation.
“I really have no motive. I buried the bombs in the dirt purely to prevent slipping!” Yu Deshui insisted.
“Impossible! Absolutely impossible! He’s lying!” The captain of the criminal investigation team, present at the interrogation, suddenly stood up and pointed at Yu Deshui.
It was the most ridiculous excuse he had ever heard—using bombs to prevent slipping?
“Alright!” Director Zhang was also amused. He felt insulted in his intelligence.
The other officers shared the same thought—who would believe such a clumsy excuse?
In truth, no one could imagine that Yu’s idea of burying so many bombs under the road was so simple and sincere. He even thought he was doing a good deed!
However, from Director Zhang’s perspective, Yu’s explanation was full of holes.
For example, why specifically use bombs to pave the road?
And why did the entire family move away overnight after burying the bombs?
Director Zhang decided to change his line of questioning.
“Yu Deshui, be honest. Where did these bombs come from? Is there an organization behind you providing assistance?”
The officers around fixed their eyes on Yu Deshui. To them, it was impossible for an ordinary person to obtain so many bombs.
“You’ve already checked. I used to run a scrap recycling station. These bombs, I collected them all!” Yu Deshui cautiously said, glancing at their expressions.
“Collected? Can bombs be recycled?” Director Zhang was a bit surprised.
“The bomb casings are made of metal. I figured if I collected bombs and sold them to the steel mill, I could make a good profit!” Yu Deshui explained in detail.
“Then why didn’t you sell them to the steel mill?” Director Zhang frowned, looking at him.
“Why didn’t I? I made those hundreds of bombs without explosive charges myself, but when I took them to the steel mill, I couldn’t even get past the gate. A group of security guards surrounded me and told me to leave immediately!” Yu Deshui said sheepishly.
That was the most unprofitable deal he ever made.
“Pfft!” An officer nearby couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
He pictured the scene of old Yu hauling a cart full of bombs to the steel mill.
Hearing the laughter, Director Zhang shot the officer a sharp look.
The officer quickly wiped the smile off his face and resumed a serious expression.
Director Zhang cleared his throat and said, “We are all trained police officers. Under normal circumstances, laughing is not allowed!”
“Yes, sir!” The officers present tried hard to control their facial muscles to avoid laughing again.
Director Zhang picked up his water glass to take a sip but immediately choked, even tears streaming down his face.
All the officers looked at the director in unison.
“This case is too complicated, and it happened a long time ago. We need to conduct a thorough investigation…” Director Zhang coughed and glanced around at everyone before speaking.
“Yes, sir!” The criminal investigators and officers nodded in agreement.
Not only the director but even they did not believe Yu Deshui’s testimony.

In the broadcast studio, at this moment, Senior Officer Hua Hua had already organized and put away the relevant materials.
Young Officer Li Yuwei looked at the video she had produced and breathed a sigh of relief. “The video is finally done! Ping is amazing—one day of live streaming produced a week’s worth of material!”
“Done? Weiwei, let’s release the drunk driving video first!” Senior Officer Hua Hua suggested.
“Got it!” The young officer nodded.
Then, she uploaded the finished video to her phone, edited the title, set the background music, and wrote the caption.
Once everything was ready, Li Yuwei hit publish.
As soon as the video was posted, fans who followed the official Tan Ping Traffic account noticed it.
After watching, they left comments: “Haha! Watching it again is still so funny!”
“Sir Tan truly is professionally trained; even in such a hilarious scene, he manages to hold back laughter!”
“No way! I have to share this with my buddies to make them laugh too!”
Li Yuwei glanced at the data and smiled with her chubby face. “Hua Hua, this video is getting a great response! Over a thousand likes already—it looks like it’s going to be a little hit!”
“Exactly!” Senior Officer Hua Hua was also pleasantly surprised.
“Hopefully, by tomorrow morning, the likes will break ten thousand!”
They hadn’t expected the official account to suddenly go viral since it was still relatively new.

Meanwhile, after settling the villagers of Qinghe Village, Tan Ping, along with Master Wang Xingyun and others, headed to their temporary accommodation.
Their traffic law education program toured nationwide, and at each stop, the local traffic bureau fully cooperated.
After all, it was a directive from higher authorities aimed at promoting traffic law awareness.
“Ah Ping, thanks to you today! If it had been a bit later, the villagers of Qinghe might have…” Wang Xingyun looked at Tan Ping and couldn’t help but speak.
“Yeah! I’ve never seen so many bombs lined up side by side!” other colleagues nodded in agreement.
“Protecting the safety of the people’s lives and property is our unshirkable responsibility!” Tan Ping said solemnly.
“Exactly!” Everyone nodded in agreement.
Before leaving, Director Xu glanced at Tan Ping and said, “Tan Ping, you did well on this matter! You prevented a massive disaster. I will commend you to the higher authorities!”
“Yes, sir!” Tan Ping responded loudly.
The surrounding colleagues looked at Tan Ping with envy.
At the very least, Tan Ping would receive a second-class merit award.
According to the regulations for rewarding people’s police, acts of bravery, self-sacrifice, active participation in emergency rescue, and outstanding achievements in protecting the safety of the state and the people merit commendation.
Given the gravity of this incident, a second-class merit was just the beginning; a first-class merit was even possible!
After all, this concerned the lives and safety of countless villagers in Qinghe.
