My fiancé, Shen Yuchen.

Xia’s father gestured to the butler beside him, then rose and disappeared beyond the front gate. He still had a mountain of matters to attend to and was unwilling to waste his time on such people. The remaining butler then directly spelled out everything Xia’s father had not made clear.
“Mr. Wei, our master means that if the young lady hadn’t been taken away by the system, if she hadn’t met you and borne your child, she would have had a better life. Your arrival and your so-called attempts at making amends only bring our young lady more trouble. Besides, what exactly can you make up for? Our young lady lacks for nothing. Therefore, we hope never to see you again.”
Wei Xunzhou didn’t know how he left the Xia residence, nor how he got back home. He sat dazedly on the sofa, his mind filled with the words of Xia’s father and the butler.
In the world of missions, his identity and family background were undoubtedly top-tier. Countless young women threw aside their pride to pursue him, to marry him. But in this era, everything he once took pride in was negligible. Not to mention the compensation he and his son owed Xia Mengge, she simply didn’t care for him at all. Even if he spoke of their seven years of love, she had better suitors. He couldn’t compare in family status, nor in love. How then could he possibly win her back?
It was then that Wei Xunzhou truly understood the power of a wealthy and noble family in handling matters. In his world, to dismiss a persistent suitor, they would use their authority to suppress them. But in this era, such people didn’t bother with power—they just uttered a few words, and it was enough to instill fear.
“Dad, did that old man just mean that we can never see Mom again?” Wei Ming’s choked sobs pulled Wei Xunzhou back from his thoughts. Looking at his son, a bitter feeling welled up in his heart. He opened his mouth with all his might but didn’t know what to say. Before entering the Xia family, he would have confidently told his son no.

But now, he wasn’t even sure if he could see Xia Mengge again. The only certainty was that he couldn’t afford to lose her once more. With that thought, a flash of determination shone in his eyes. No matter how great the obstacles between them, he would try to win her back.
With this resolve, Wei Xunzhou gently patted his son’s head and said, “It’s not that we can’t see Mom, it’s just that it will take a long time before we do.” Wei Ming was about to ask more, but Wei Xunzhou interrupted him, “But before that, there’s something I need to teach you.”
Since Wei Ming had falsely accused Xia Mengge, and now with Xia’s father subtly pointing out Wei Ming’s upbringing issues, Wei Xunzhou finally realized the grave problem in his son’s education. He could no longer let his child continue down the wrong path.
——— United States
When Xia’s father called, Xia Mengge was sitting on the balcony of a manor in the United States, basking in the sun. After calming his sister, Xia Chenxuan had left early to handle the Xia family’s business here, leaving Xia Mengge alone at home.
She wore a long dress, reclining leisurely on a chaise lounge, eating fruit freshly cut by the servant, while listening to her mother’s nagging over a video call.
“Your father initially wanted to send those two straight to the Special Bureau, but then thought that would be too easy for them. So the butler brought them back and told them frankly that they weren’t worthy of our daughter.”
“But those two are shameless, constantly trying to find out your whereabouts. Fortunately, everyone in the capital knows what they’ve done, so they kept tripping them up. They’re now overwhelmed and have no time to look for you.”
Perhaps seeing the father and son who bullied her daughter suffer like this lifted Xia’s mother’s spirits considerably.
“Your father said this year you’ll stay in the U.S., and he’ll come here for his birthday to celebrate with you all.”
Hearing this, Xia Mengge suddenly sat up from the lounge chair. “But will Dad’s health hold up?”
Her mother waved off her concern lightly. “What does it matter? Your father said if he can’t make it, then he just won’t celebrate. He doesn’t need one more birthday.”
“Besides, your safety is more important than any birthday.”
As if recalling something, Xia’s mother added, “The Special Bureau just called. They said there’s new research on the system that abducted you.”

“They said that although it can bring that father and son pair here, the time is limited to just one month. If they don’t win you back within this month, they will be sent back to their original world.”
Xia’s mother shook her head with amusement but didn’t elaborate, quickly changing the subject. “For the next few months, just focus on resting well.”
“Oh, and do you remember the fiancé candidate you chose back then?”
Xia Mengge was taken aback, and after a long pause, she didn’t respond. She had been away in the mission world for so long that she barely remembered her old friends and family, let alone a fiancé candidate she had met only a few times.
Seeing her confusion, Xia’s mother sighed deeply. “That boy heard you were back and wanted to see you. For seven years, he’s been... waiting for you. We tried to dissuade him, but...”
“Now you’re abroad, and we haven’t told him your whereabouts. What do you think?”
Xia Mengge was silent for a moment. She had been taken by the system for seven years and missed those years with her fiancé. Everything had changed. Why meet again only to stir sorrow?
She shook her head. “I won’t see him.”
Perhaps sensing the harshness of her words, Xia Mengge then asked her mother to tell him that since they never had an engagement ceremony, it meant they were not meant for each other, and she hoped he would let go and find his own life. After what she had endured, she no longer had the energy to start a new relationship.
But Xia’s mother never passed on these words. When Xia Chenxuan returned home from work, Xia Mengge saw someone standing behind him. She didn’t recognize the person until he entered.
Seeing their silence, Xia Chenxuan scratched his nose and said, “Mengge, this is the fiancé candidate you chose that year—Shen Yuchen.”
