Chapter Two: The Scent of Love
After Ding Xuanyin and Zhang Zhimeng married, they fell asleep in each other's arms every night. One night, Zhang Zhimeng once again lost control of her bowels, and a pungent odor instantly filled the air.
She woke up with a start, her face full of guilt and panic. Ding Xuanyin woke up as well. Seeing the situation, he gently embraced the shivering Zhang Zhimeng and whispered comfortingly, "Don't worry, my dear, this is not your fault." Ding Xuanyin quickly rose, opened the window to ventilate the room, cleaned the sheets with a damp cloth, and urged Zhang Zhimeng to go wash up.
In the bathroom, Zhang Zhimeng wept with self-reproach, feeling like a burden. Once he had finished cleaning, Ding Xuanyin knocked on the bathroom door and wiped away her tears: "We are husband and wife; we must face all difficulties together. We will see a doctor tomorrow, and things will get better." From then on, Ding Xuanyin accompanied Zhang Zhimeng as they sought medical help everywhere, caring for her devotedly.
Encouraged by Ding Xuanyin, Zhang Zhimeng gradually regained her confidence, and the two would fall asleep lovingly amidst the scent of home-cooked meals.
During the days when Ding Xuanyin was tenderly caring for Zhang Zhimeng, Lu Xinyi and Mandra lived next door. Every night before sleep, Lu Xinyi would light a lavender-scented candle to mask the cooking odors drifting from next door.
As the soft candlelight flickered and the delicate fragrance permeated the room, Mandra would gently pull Lu Xinyi into his arms. Amidst the soothing scent, the two would quietly share the interesting anecdotes of their day.
Accompanied by this comforting aroma, they would slowly drift off to sleep with expressions of contentment and happiness, as if all the beauty in the world had merged into their sweet dreams.
