Chapter 23: The Miao Borderlands Holy Son’s White Moonlight, Part 7
At the first moment A-Tian regained his composure and heard the explanation, his expression became rather indescribable.
Just as he opened his mouth to speak, he was silenced by a cold, gloomy gaze from the other man.
A-Tian: ...
His face twisted. He glanced toward Lu Ning-Shi, his mouth opening and closing in hesitation, his eyes filled with sympathy.
The Saint’s nonsense is even more terrifying than the poison gu he raises.
There is only one bed in the house; wouldn't it be even more inappropriate for them to stay?
As the thought flashed through Lu Ning-Shi's mind, she heard him issue an order: "A-Tian, go prepare two new sets of bedding."
"Understood, I'll go take care of that right away."
"Wait..."
Before Lu Ning-Shi could even reach out her hand, A-Tian had already vanished from sight.
Now, there was truly no reason to refuse.
She sighed silently in her heart. "Then, I’m sorry for the trouble tonight."
"It’s no trouble."
Yang Cheng-Chuan gestured for her to follow. "Come with me."
After speaking, he turned and headed into the room. Having no other choice, Lu Ning-Shi followed behind him.
"Your friend has quite a few scratches. Apply this medicine to the wounds twice a day, morning and evening."
Yang Cheng-Chuan handed her a small white porcelain bottle and continued, "It should be mostly healed in seven days, but the injury on her foot is more severe and will require a month of recovery."
Lu Ning-Shi stared at the medicine in his hand but did not take it.
Yang Cheng-Chuan held it in mid-air, showing no sign of impatience.
He watched her quietly for a few seconds before saying slowly, "This medicine is fast-acting; it works twice as quickly as anything you’d get at a hospital."
"That’s not what I meant."
Lu Ning-Shi pulled back her gaze and rubbed her nose with a guilty conscience.
Yang Cheng-Chuan tilted his head slightly, finishing her sentence as she trailed off: "I’m not charging you."
Lu Ning-Shi: ...
She tugged at her lips, forcing a stiff smile, and said through gritted teeth, "That is even less of what I meant."
What kind of perception does this man have?
As the daughter of a wealthy family, does she look like someone who lacks the money for a bit of medicine?
"Mm, hold onto it."
A glint of amusement seemed to flash in Yang Cheng-Chuan’s eyes.
Lu Ning-Shi pursed her lips. As she reached out to take it, her finger accidentally brushed against his cold skin, causing her to tremble slightly.
A-Tian was fast; within minutes, he returned with two people.
"Where should I put these things?"
He looked at the person standing beside the Saint, wisely choosing not to act on his own.
Yang Cheng-Chuan shot him a sidelong glance and said indifferently, "The East Wing."
A-Tian responded with an "oh," and as he turned away, a knowing, mischievous grin appeared on his face.
He directed the two men to make the bed and had them carry the unconscious woman over, before calling out to the pair, "Everything is prepared. Is there anything else you need me to do?"
"You can leave."
Yang Cheng-Chuan, impatient with him hovering about, coldly dismissed him.
A-Tian didn't take offense; he just turned and walked away with a grin.
Seeing this, Lu Ning-Shi took the opportunity to say, "Then please continue with your work; I won't disturb you any further."
Yang Cheng-Chuan moved his lips, but ultimately only let out a soft, affirmative hum.
Watching her back as she hurried away from him, his eyes gradually darkened.
Lu Ning-Shi sat by the bedside. While she was applying the medicine, Song Yue-Hua groaned and slowly opened her eyes a crack.
"Wei... Wei-Wei?"
"It's me."
Seeing her wake up, Lu Ning-Shi sighed in relief, but then, feeling a surge of annoyance, she pressed down firmly on one of the wounds.
"Ow—"
The pain brought her to full consciousness instantly.
Song Yue-Hua grimaced and shrieked, "Gently! Gently! Are you trying to murder me?"
Lu Ning-Shi gave a cold snort.
"With your habit of running off recklessly without listening to anyone, I wouldn't need to murder you; you’d probably end up dying in some wilderness all on your own."
"I... I just wanted to take some nice photos," Song Yue-Hua muttered softly, feeling guilty as she lay back down.
Her eyes wandered, and she looked at the unfamiliar surroundings, asking curiously, "Where is this? It's not a hospital, is it?"
"Hell."
Lu Ning-Shi cast a sidelong glance at her.
Song Yue-Hua rubbed her nose and didn't dare to reply.
After a moment, she tugged on the hem of Lu Ning-Shi's dress and shook it slightly. "Wei-Wei, I'm sorry. I made you all worry."
"Alright, learn from your mistakes. No wandering off from the group again."
Lu Ning-Shi wasn't truly angry; she was just putting on a show to make sure she learned her lesson.
She scooped out some ointment to apply to the wound and continued, "An-An and the others have been looking for you for a long time. You should call them and let them know you're safe."
"Mm-hmm, understood."
Song Yue-Hua replied with extreme docility.
She reached out to feel around, only to realize her bag was missing, and whispered, "Oh no."
"What's wrong?" Lu Ning-Shi turned her head.
"I don't know where I dropped my bag when I rolled down the mountain. My phone and ID are inside."
Lu Ning-Shi frowned. "Use mine first."
She handed over her phone, and after a moment of thought, she turned and headed outside.
Yang Cheng-Chuan was busy with herbs in the room. The light spilling out allowed Lu Ning-Shi to quickly find his location.
Unlike at home, where she would walk straight into her brother's room without a word, she stood reservedly outside the door and knocked gently.
"Come in."
Yang Cheng-Chuan looked up and asked in a gentle voice, "Is something the matter?"
Seeing his gaze land on her once more—though not as intense as before, it still made her feel uncomfortable—Lu Ning-Shi shifted her feet and quietly moved to a different spot, but his intense gaze followed her.
"Are you feeling unwell?" he asked.
Lu Ning-Shi offered an awkward smile and stood still, not moving again. "No, I just came to ask, where exactly did you find my friend?"
Yang Cheng-Chuan's expression remained unchanged, but his hands stopped their work.
"You want to go there?"
"Yes."
Lu Ning-Shi nodded. "My friend's bag might have fallen there. The things inside are quite important; I need to retrieve them."
"Mr. Yang, have you seen it?"
Yang Cheng-Chuan was kneeling on a soft cushion, looking up. "What did you call me?"
Lu Ning-Shi tilted her head, confused, and repeated, "Mr. Yang?"
The corners of Yang Cheng-Chuan's mouth turned downward in obvious displeasure.
Lu Ning-Shi's eyes grew even more bewildered.
What was happening? She hadn't said anything; why was he angry?
"Mr. Yang, my friend's bag..."
Lu Ning-Shi tentatively reached out a hand, trying to get his attention.
Yang Cheng-Chuan said sullenly, "I don't know."
"Oh."
Lu Ning-Shi looked disappointed.
Seeing this, Yang Cheng-Chuan curled his fingers and said slowly, "After the rain stops, I can take you to look around the area."
"That's too much trouble for you. If you could just give me the address, I can take some people to look for it later, and I won't have to bother you."
Lu Ning-Shi brightened up again, looking at him eagerly, hoping for a clear answer.
Yang Cheng-Chuan curled his lips. "It's no trouble."
Lu Ning-Shi: ...
In the side room of the East Wing.
Song Yue-Hua saw her return looking dejected and asked hurriedly, "What’s wrong? You went out and came back with a long face—who upset our Miss Lu?"
"Heh, I just happened to run into someone who doesn't understand human language..."
Lu Ning-Shi looked around the room and swallowed the rest of her words.
A powerful dragon shouldn't cross a local serpent; it wasn't the right time for her to lose her temper.
"Why’d you stop?" Song Yue-Hua asked in confusion.
