Chapter 13: The Harvest
Only three days have passed in the span of seven, and aside from the White Dragon Fish, the results are just average—not bad, but nothing outstanding. Chu Danqing knew his efforts were limited, so he didn’t expect too much.
Before him lay two items: the first was a treasure chest dropped by the White Dragon Fish. It was not ordinary but of excellent grade. The moment he returned, he eagerly opened it to see what was inside.
The other item was the White Dragon Fish’s egg.
[You have opened: Treasure Chest (Excellent Grade), obtained: White Dragon Fish’s Roar, Paradise Points ×1000]
“How heavy... how am I supposed to use this?” Chu Danqing examined the White Dragon Fish’s Roar—a seven-meter-long white bone horse lance, clearly crafted from the spine of the White Dragon Fish. At the tip where the red tassels should be, one could faintly discern the shape of a fish-dragon spearhead.
[White Dragon Fish’s Roar]
[Type: Equipment · Horse Lance]
[Quality: Excellent]
[Durability: 100/100]
[Attributes:]
[Attack Power: 10–20 (varies based on user’s skill, attributes, etc.)]
[Effect:]
[White Dragon Fish’s Strength (Active): Consume 10 energy points to gain the power blessing of the White Dragon Fish, increasing strength by 5 points for 1 minute, cooldown 10 minutes]
[Equip Requirements: Strength 9, Constitution 9]
(Note: Actual damage fluctuates depending on enemy’s attributes, equipment, and status)
“Strength and Constitution both at 9 to equip, no wonder it’s so heavy.”
“But it doesn’t seem to be a strict requirement, just a demand,” Chu Danqing thought. He could force himself to use it, but at his own risk. Simply holding the lance, which felt heavy even to lift, would only get him killed in battle.
“The added active effect can at least be used directly.” Chu Danqing said as he attempted to activate it. Ten energy points instantly drained, and a surge of power flowed from the lance into his body.
His strength attribute doubled, swelling his confidence. The extra 5 points from the effect combined with his own 5 points of strength, bringing him halfway to the equipment’s required strength.
“It feels lighter,” Chu Danqing smiled, though wielding such a long lance was still difficult. Furthermore, without matching constitution, even if his strength met the standard, it would be a huge hindrance.
A minute passed swiftly, and the White Dragon Fish’s strength blessing faded. The lance suddenly grew heavy again, nearly twisting Chu Danqing’s waist.
“I can’t use this,” he muttered, stashing the White Dragon Fish’s Roar into his storage space.
As the saying goes, a sword or staff is a lifelong companion, and Chu Danqing simply wasn’t skilled with long-handled weapons meant for cavalry. If he survived and returned to the Dimensional Paradise, he might find another way to deal with it—perhaps selling it to other dimension apostles. But it would probably be hard to sell; such a long horse lance wasn’t practical for foot soldiers and suited only for knights or cavalry.
“Now, the real highlight.” Chu Danqing’s gaze shifted to the White Dragon Fish egg the village chief had brought him.
[White Dragon Fish Egg]
[Type: Consumable/Material]
[Quality: Excellent]
[Effect 1: Fully consume to restore 80% health and 50% energy within 1 minute, and increase constitution by 3 points for 10 minutes]
[Effect 2: Can be used as an ingredient for potions, food, and related crafting]
(Note: Will hatch after 5 days and 17 hours. Do not keep in storage space within 10 minutes before hatching, or hatching will fail, resulting in death.)
“Five days?” Chu Danqing’s expression changed slightly. This meant that in this trial, there was no chance to obtain a summon.
He only had one contract scroll; there was no way he would give up such a promising summon as the White Dragon Fish, especially since he could raise it from infancy with no worries about loyalty. It would be obedient, if not exactly a weapon wielded as an extension of his arm.
He placed the egg into his storage space, deciding to consume it only if his life were in danger.
“小 Chu, come out for food!” Da Bao pushed open the door, holding a large bowl of meat soup, gulping it down as he spoke, “It’s made from something bad.”
Hearing this, Chu Danqing’s expression brightened.
They had taken the White Dragon Fish back after killing it in the morning. Transport and cleanup had taken the entire morning. After handling miscellaneous matters, it was already noon when the fish went into the pot.
“Let’s go see what Jiang Tu left for me.” Chu Danqing stood immediately.
He still remembered the large bowl of mixed stew from before. Although it was only ordinary grade, after digestion and absorption, it had increased his maximum health by 10 points. Though not visible on his attribute panel in percentages, he could feel subtle changes within himself.
He was eager to see what benefits the White Dragon Fish soup would bring.
The two arrived at Jiang Tu’s butcher shop. Da Bao finished his large bowl of soup quickly and, without waiting to be served, went for another ladle.
The butcher shop was crowded with villagers, each receiving a large bowl of White Dragon Fish meat soup.
All the leftovers belonged to Da Bao.
No one objected since Da Bao had killed the White Dragon Fish.
“Yo, Chu Xiao Ge is here.” Jiang Tu saw Chu Danqing, wiped his hands on his clothes, then called a villager to help distribute the soup before approaching Chu Danqing.
“Back for another taste?” Jiang Tu teased, “Don’t worry, I saved some for you.”
He led Chu Danqing into the back kitchen and handed him two stacked bowls.
“This is the White Dragon Fish heart—great tonic.”
“Da Bao’s a fool; he doesn’t appreciate it. I specifically saved the essence for you.”
Chu Danqing took the bowl, finding it filled with finely minced meat. It was clearly not the entire heart, but the most precious part.
[White Dragon Fish Heart Stew]
[Type: Consumable]
[Quality: Excellent]
[Effect: Upon complete digestion and absorption, +100 maximum health, +1 constitution]
Chu Danqing’s composure broke.
This was a permanent attribute boost.
Seeing Chu Danqing’s expression, Jiang Tu smiled with satisfaction.
He couldn’t see the Dimensional Paradise’s attribute panel, but Chu Danqing’s reaction spoke volumes about the quality of this fish heart soup.
“This isn’t just good, it’s heavenly,” Chu Danqing said.
“Enough talk, drink up first!” Jiang Tu urged.
Chu Danqing nodded and downed the entire bowl in one go.
“Wait, it’s hot...” Jiang Tu wanted to warn, but Chu Danqing had already finished.
“You have to drink it while it’s hot,” Chu Danqing said with satisfaction.
This time he truly felt content. This bowl of soup was no less rewarding than the treasure chest.
Though he couldn’t use the White Dragon Fish’s Roar lance, the permanent increases to his maximum health and constitution were tangible benefits.
He figured the White Dragon Fish egg could also be crafted into food or potions for permanent attribute boosts.
“Oh, by the way, the village chief told me to tell you to find him after you finish eating. He’s still at the lowland,” Jiang Tu added as he took back the bowl.
