Chapter Eleven: Interview at the Research Institute

“Of course. Not just any female is qualified to be mentioned in the same breath as you.”
“Your Highness, you are the gentlest, kindest, and most considerate female in the entire world. It is our honor to work in the same laboratory as you.”
The male working beside Princess Luisa spoke with wholehearted admiration, his face filled with respect.
Work at the Research Institute was arduous. Not once had any delicate female been willing to set foot there.
Yet Luisa had taken the initiative to join them, assisting the institute in developing a male heat-relief agent.
The entire male staff at the institute had been deeply moved.
Luisa curved her lips into a gentle smile. “All right, Allen. Focus on your work.”
“Perhaps the new female will be different.”
“How could she be?”
Allen pursed his lips. Aside from Princess Luisa, every female in the world was an arrogant and ill-mannered creature.
The males, unfortunately, were at the mercy of their heat periods. Once they accepted a female’s comfort and were marked by her, they could only remain bound to each other for the rest of their lives.
Allen was an exceptionally proud male. As the head of the Second Laboratory, he had now reached the point where he needed to find a female mate.
Recently, his heat had come twice a month, but he truly could not stand the ordinary females he encountered.
Unless—
A beautiful figure flashed through Allen’s mind: a fleeting silhouette outside a convenience store, carrying a soft, delicate fragrance.
She had been an extraordinarily beautiful female.
Shaking his head, Allen decided that the experiment was more important. He shut off the phone that had been ringing incessantly and buried himself in the research and development work once more.
As a result, he missed the heated discussion taking place in the group chat.
Almost everyone throughout the Research Institute now knew that Yulan would be coming to the laboratory for an interview the next day.
*
The following day
Yulan rose early and sat at the dining table, biting into a green nutritional supplement with a strange flavor. Her pretty little face had twisted into a miserable frown.
“Housekeeper, is there really nothing else to eat?”
“I mean, anything besides nutritional supplements. These taste awful.”
Yulan truly could not endure that bizarre flavor any longer.
Her taste buds were desperately yearning for a bowl of steaming white rice.
“Of course there is.”
The housekeeper stood before Yulan with a beaming smile and handed her a tablet.
“If you would like delicious, fresh, and appetizing meals, you can contact Crown Grand Hotel.”
“They have the finest chefs in the entire galaxy, capable of preparing the most exquisite dishes. Naturally, their prices are also extremely high.”
Yulan tapped on the tablet a few times. It did not take long for her to understand exactly what the housekeeper meant by “extremely high.”
A simple serving of stir-fried pork cost ten thousand star coins.
Hahahaha!
Were they insane?
They might as well rob her outright. Why bother giving her a plate of food?

However, in the interstellar era, most people only needed to drink a one-star-coin nutritional supplement to maintain their bodies’ basic needs, both to save time and reduce expenses.
There was indeed no need to waste time preparing meals anymore.
Delicious food had become the exclusive preference of the elite upper class.
As Yulan pondered this, she saw the housekeeper standing before her, still wearing that kind and attentive smile.
Yet for some reason, Yulan felt that something was amiss. An inexplicable unease rose in her heart.
Sure enough, the next moment, the housekeeper spoke.
“Your Highness, the wages of all the staff at the mansion have gone unpaid for three months.”
“May I ask when you intend to settle them?”
“W-What?”
Yulan felt as though the world had gone dark. Trembling, she asked, “How much do I owe you?”
“Not much. Only nine hundred and ninety thousand star coins.”
The smile on the housekeeper’s face remained as pleasant as ever.
Such devastating news could hardly be surpassed.
The nutritional drink Yulan had been holding between her teeth slipped from her mouth and struck the floor with a crack.
She cautiously asked, “May I ask how much your monthly salary is?”
“One hundred thousand star coins a month,” the housekeeper replied briskly.
Damn it!
With a monthly salary of thirty thousand, she could not afford a housekeeper who earned one hundred thousand a month.
Debt: plus 990,000 star coins.
Yulan stammered for a while before saying, “Let’s discuss this in detail after I return from the Research Institute today.”
She would properly sort through the luxury goods the original owner had purchased and settle the debt as soon as possible.

Under the housekeeper’s watchful gaze, Yulan boarded the hovercar with a heavy heart and arrived at the entrance of the Research Institute.
She was just about to take out her phone and send Zhao Song a message when a man suddenly came running out of the institute.
“You’re Yulan, aren’t you? You’re here for the interview?”
“Hello, hello! I’m Zhao Song. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to find your way, so I came down especially to meet you.”
Yulan’s soft, rosy lips parted slightly. She had not even sent Zhao Song a message yet.
But Zhao Song had just come out of the Research Institute, so he was probably not a con artist.
She quickly nodded. “Thank you.”
“I’m Yulan. You can call me Lanlan.”
“All right, Lanlan.”
The smile on Zhao Song’s face widened as he hurriedly called her by that name.
In truth, from the moment he had arrived at the Research Institute that morning, he had been unable to concentrate. His mind had been filled entirely with thoughts of Yulan.

As the agreed interview time drew closer, Zhao Song grew more and more anxious at his workstation. In the end, he gritted his teeth, ran to the entrance, and began watching for her arrival.
Fortunately, Yulan had really come.
The entire Research Institute, from the highest-ranking researchers to the newest assistants, knew that Zhao Song had gone to receive Yulan. A group of single males were all watching eagerly.
This was undoubtedly the best they had ever looked in public. Every one of these highly intelligent bachelors had groomed himself to perfection, looking completely different from the lifeless way they usually appeared at work.
Zhao Song led Yulan past one transparent laboratory after another, occasionally introducing them.
“This is the Advanced Weapons Research Center. Every weapon currently used by the Empire comes from here.”
“This is the Intelligent Robotics Development Laboratory…”
“And this is…”
One laboratory after another opened up before Yulan’s eyes. She was dazzled by the sight.
Knowing that Yulan was watching them, the researchers inside the laboratories made every effort to show off their best sides.
Sure enough—
The next moment, the beautiful little female’s pleasant voice rang out.
“They’re all working so seriously.”
“How impressive.”
She praised me!
That thought flashed through the minds of the males in unison. They immediately worked even harder, filled with excitement and determination.
Yulan was a new type of serious-work stimulant.
Seeing the males’ absurdly earnest expressions, Zhao Song nearly laughed. He soon led Yulan past the many laboratories and, after layers of security checks and successive identity verifications, arrived at the two most important laboratories.
Zhao Song’s expression finally became solemn.
“These are the core laboratories of the entire Research Institute.”
“The First Laboratory and the Second Laboratory are responsible specifically for researching male heat-relief agents.”
“Lanlan, welcome to the First Laboratory.”
Zhao Song extended a hand toward Yulan.
“Ah, does this mean I passed the interview?”
Yulan tilted her head in confusion. The flesh of her pretty cheeks formed a soft arc, making her look exceptionally adorable.
“Mm.”
Zhao Song nodded.
This had always been a position given away at the click of a button. Having a female willing to come at all was already extraordinary. What other requirements could there be?
For all they knew, she might be unable to endure the hard work and run away the very next day.
As they spoke, he pushed open the door beside them and ushered Yulan inside.
